I'm told this is the best deli in Phoenix. If true then that's very very sad. So far I've only found one deli in the Phoenix area that's worth the drive but this place isn't. It's very average for a deli. Mostly because in all the meat on my sandwich (turkey and Swiss on marble rye) all I could taste was the lettuce. I will say the bread, marble rye, was good. Not stale. And the Arnold Palmer I got was amazing. (I wish I'd have known I wouldn't be getting a refill before my sandwich came though). Not easy choking down a huge sandwich without even a water to wash it down. Anyway. I didn't like whatever those onion ring things are called at all. And the "chipotle ranch" that comes with is gross. I also tried the coleslaw and that was also a huge miss. Service was lackluster. One of my pet peeves is waiting. And waiting. For the check. I was hoping I'd finally found a real deli on the west side. I guess the search still continues. Side note: very expensive. And before you @ me with "you should have ordered the pastrami". Maybe so. Very dirty, the bathroom had no toilet paper. There was no paper towels no soap there was crap smeared all over the bathroom clearly nobody has been cleaning or maintaining. Wait staff made meal to go and was told that we were going to the dentist we had ordered coleslaw he did not put silverware in the bag nor did he put napkins and told me that we have to ask for it. Chompies has always been one of my favorite places in the valley. This is my first visit to this location in eons I'm so glad to see that they are open for business and that the food is as good as ever. Huge portions, tasty food and great service. I ordered the stuffed sweet and sour cabbage rolls. Nice size rolls stuffed so well. It comes with two sides of choice and soup or salad. Portions here are not shy so either come starved or ask for a to go box straight off as you will need it. My rolls came with slaw, a potato pancake and I ordered a salad. No skimpy side salad. It ended up being my meal. My friend ordered a mile high Ruben with choice of sides. She got the potato salad. It looked amazing. My friend was so busy eating I scarcely got a pic. However, I complained on the Chompie's website and Sarah Wenrich, the General Manager of the Arrowhead location reached out to me and is giving me a refund. We were at the mall and I had a hankering for some soup. Chompies has so many yummy desserts, bagels and food. I ordered a chicken and matzo ball soup which came with bagel chips. The service was friendly and quick and my soup hit the spot. I really love their bagel chips they come with it too. I could munch on those without soup lol. A good Deli is sometimes hard to find, unless you're standing outside of Katz' on the lower East side; or Chompie's in Phoenix. True. There are more places serving deli sandwiches, than there are good deli's. Chompie's has embraced NY in their style and atmosphere (see photo). In the old days, at Katz's in lower Manhattan, if the service wasn't up to snuff, folks would leave a subway token as a tip, as if to say, get out of town. This Chompie's is my favorite. The service is excellent and the food is always great. We came here recently on a Friday night and found a seat just as someone was leaving. Boy dam good kismet. We ordered the large NY Pastrami, Roast Beef and Monte Cristo sandwiches (photos), along with a Matzah Ball soup to take home for later. Our daughter loves there soup, we do too. Everything was excellent and delicious, and we even took home some Almond Croissants. Well it was during High Holidays, right? The tab ran us $20+ each, which is very fair and well worth it. I came here with my daughter for brunch on a Saturday morning. Customer service is decent, courteous but not exactly friendly. Located inside the mall but there is an entrance from the outside. The dining room is always full which is a sign that the food is dependably good. My daughter ordered the Strawberry Shortcake pancakes which were ginormous! Huge, fluffy pancakes covered with fresh strawberries & whip cream. The side of syrup had a weird film on top of it so she skipped it. The whipped butter that comes on the side is delicious. Just a hint of sweet cream and absolutely mouthwatering when spread on hot toast. I ordered the Lox Scramble which was comes with choice of different potatoes, bread or fruit. Stopped for pastries at your arrowhead restaurant. We got a lemon bar, an eclair, and an almond bar. All were quite stale tasting. The lemon bar and the almond bar were thrown away. The custard in the eclair was the only salvageable part. Won't be going back. read more

So disappointed. I was told this was a real NY Jewish Deli. NOT! The bread is not crusty and the pastries are copies of the real thing. I've tried buying Chompies breads in the grocery and they are pasty and mushy, none have crust and they are overpriced. I started coming here because the food is tasty, but I stayed because of the customer service Veronica gives me. I haven't seen her for a while until today which is a big bummer.., She always takes care of me and recognizes me by name, it's nice to have such a positive energy at the cashiers desk. Love the pastrami here, but have a few gripes... First, this place is a little bit pricey for what you get...we got two full pastrami sandwiches with a side...almost $60. It's good, but not sure it's worth the money. Once in a while I crave it and it's good but again, every time I see the receipt I did a little inside. We usually order take out through door dash, but we were at the mall returning something so thought we'd go pick up instead and save some money. What a confusing experience. Went to the counter that's inside the mall, not the side with the outdoor entrance to the sit-down restaurant. Figured we could order there and made sense. Went up to the cashier and asked if they had a menu and if we can order there, and he said no we have to go in the restaurant...a little weird but ok, no problem, we go on in there and then the host at the restaurant said we have to place an order at the counter for take out...what!!! And we asked if we could use their menu, and we did, memorized our order, went back to the same cashier that said to go inside the restaurant in the first place and ordered. To be fair, I'm not ragging on the cashier at the counter because I do think he was brand new on the job so it's ok he's learning and if he sent us to the wrong place, all good no big deal. But...there were no menus at the counter for their restaurant if you wanted to order take out...that's not his fault, that's the restaurant's fault. Makes it very confusing for new employees and guests alike. One star docked from there and the pricing in general. Second star off because the quality of the good that day was off...we got onion strings as a side for both of us. Both were burnt! I ordered from the pastry area counter a number of pastries. The cashier had better days. I had to give her my order 3 times, She left the register and went into the kitchen area to sip on her beverage while a number of us were waiting to place our orders. A waitress was walking from the kitchen to the bagel area whipping tears from her eye s and whipping her nose and mouth area with her hands, YIKES. It took me 25 minutes to place my order and pay with one person ahead of me. I do t understand how restaurants don't have a dress code for dining. There was a group with white sleeveless Tee shirts and tattoos up and down their arms. Last week I ate at the restaurant and there were a few tables that weren't cleared from the previous customers which we would have preferred to sit in those booths. I was so excited to go to lunch with my family who live in Glendale Az. I really wanted to try Chompies !! I had the Monte Cristo it was dynamite . I really enjoyed taking my first bite full of turkey , ham , cheese, bacon and of course the French toast bread . It came with a choice of sides I chose fries nice hot and crispy . I feel like Chompies lost something when it became a chain of restaurants. I was a regular at the original, single location it used to have for years in the valley. Being from NY, it was like going home to eat there. I don't feel that way anymore about the multiple locations. My recent eggs Benedict made me realize that. I used to have that at the original location. It was classic NY breakfast for me there. It's not the same. The quality is definitely not there. Classic NY style meals are not what you expect from Chompies anymore. Just a lot of food on the plate & nothing special. I didn't even take home the leftovers. I'll still give it a good rating. We used to love Chompies, but our last visit gave us a half sour stomach ache. Service: So-so Food not like it used to be. I had stuffed cabbage. Thin watery sauce, mostly cabbage not much stuffing. No more pickles left on the table for nosh. Not even available in the deli. Menu drastically cut. Poor selection. This location has just become a Yankees fan bar. Wanted to leave a quick review to talk about our visit to the Arrowhead location today. We were seated quickly and helped during our visit by Ryan. Ryan was awesome in every aspect and made sure we had everything we needed and from what we'd seen while there, was keeping everyone really happy. The place was decently busy today, but food was going out, people were eating and the tables were getting cleared in a timely manner. The Monte Cristo was really good, but defeated me halfway through. My wife had the Brisket dipping sandwich and while she thoroughly enjoyed the dip and the Brisket, the choice of bread wasn't for her - it happens and she said she'd try the build a sandwich option next time and try the brisket on something different. Overall, everything (with the exception of that darned roll for the brisket dip) was excellent. Ryan was the star of the show and I really hope that management passes along our thanks to him! read more

We return to Chompies regularly for the greatest roast beef sandwiches in our eyes! Yesterday we went and noticed a change to the roast beef sandwiches. Sliced thicker and it really changed Big Deli Sandwichesthe flavor and texture. Hopefully it's just a temporary thing and you will return to the way it has been for the last 20 years we've been enjoying them. That is when we moved here. But I come here solely for the matzo chicken noodle soup. OMG. Sooo good. Came here for Mother's Day with family, even though my food was ok I will not be back. My mom ordered corn beef hash and eggs. Hers was burnt and hard. We all ordered coffee and they only brought flavored creamer. When we asked for half and half she gave us 4 there was 3 of us drinking coffee. The portions are very large but that doesn't make a difference if you don't like what you're eating. We were seated in a booth which looked like it had not been cleaned since they've been open. My sister-in-law took out a antiseptic wipe to clean it with one wipe it was black. The cases for the fresh baked goods was very disgusting as well. We stood there for 10 minutes and no one approached us either. Cleanliness is such a disappointment since it's the easiest task in a restaurant. The waitress didn't seem to care about my mothers dish even though she mentioned it when it came out. It should've never left the kitchen the way it looked. Sad because they have real potential being at the entrance to the mall. I hate to leave bad reviews but they really missed the mark when it comes to being clean. We got our Thanksgiving food from here and it was tremendous. Turkey was moist and perfect temperature. Great color, excellent seasoning. Sides were special as well. Green beans were a super pleasant side. Very generous with their potatoes and sweet potatoes. Pies were very good as well. We've eaten here often and are never disappointed. Great place! read more
