I'll start by saying I cannot believe I'm writing a 2 star review of Chocolate Works. It pains me. My mom introduced me to Chocolate Works about 10 years ago (when it was 5th Ave Chocolatier and didn't exist in Bellmore/RVC). Once I tried their signature truffle, I was HOOKED! I told everyone that it was the best chocolate in the country(which is a bold statement knowing my love for chocolate/desserts, and that I travel most of the year for work). After bringing these to family upstate for a holiday, it almost became a requirement that I must bring them. Maybe around 2 years ago, I bought a box and thought the texture was grainy and off. The signature truffles were no longer creamy and delicious. They were grainy and dry and overall, tasted significantly lower quality. I pretended it didn't happen, and ordered them 2 or 3 more times after that over the past 2 years..each time ignoring my previous bad experience. My most recent purchase was last week for Mother's Day. This batch was the grainiest and worst I've had. I bought a box of 15, and almost a full week later, only 3 have been eaten..which is unheard of. Had I tried them now for the first time, there would be no raving and certainly no repurchasing. The packaging was also changed and now looks really cheap (they used to come in wood boxes and now come in a disposable plastic/paper packaging), which just put the nail in the coffin on a product that already was not up to par. At this point, after getting 3 bad batches in a row (2 from Bellmore, 1 from Commack), I can safely conclude that these have been either poorly reformulated or are made WAY too far in advance and not stored properly and then sold at a significantly degraded quality. It's extremely disappointing for a product that used to be so good. There are a ton of great chocolate places in NYC and LI, so I think this is me writing off Chocolate Works forever I don't have experience with the other chocolate here, but I don't feel very inclined to give it a try after my last few experiences here. read more

Used this location as a field trip for my School Age Summer Campers and there are 2 locations that I was bounced between Plainview and Bellmore locations. Was very chaotic in the booking process and when confirming the trip was called by both locations and then had a rude interaction with Olivia, Meesha and then ultimately Raj when they charged us a Gratuity tip that we did not feel was deserved. Sadly our company owns 17 locations that could have been a good opportunity for the business but we will not be returning and have expressed that to them. I have also recommended no other school within my company use them as a vendor. read more

Visit Date: October 19, 2014 I came here with my friend to check this place out after eating Panera for lunch. I will be back again! There's so much chocolate. There's a chocolate fondue fountain, a chocolate machine pushing out chocolates, chocolate truffles, chocolate bars, chocolate gift baskets and boxes. They also host events so you can throw birthday parties, baby showers, wedding showers, ladie's night out parties, I guess any party you can think of. My friend and I only sampled the truffles. We each got 1/4 lb box. My box of truffles was $8 her's was $6. The truffles were delicious and were available in a variety of different flavors. I will definitely be back here again and if I get pregnant and it's not too expensive I would consider throwing a baby shower here. read more

Quick to the point: great option for a walk in activity to do with a 7 year old. The sweet high school worker was extremely friendly and helpful. My son picked out a lizard or gecko mold and was really happy about helping pour the chocolate into it and shaking it to make sure the chocolate went into all of the nooks and crannies. While we waited for it to harden we explored the store: they had chocolate covered everything marshmallows, graham crackers and even matzah. Wow what an amazing grand opening event! This new addition to the Bellmore/Merrick community rolled out the red carpet to welcome everyone in the area. They had raffles, a chocolate fountain, samples, popcorn, Santa and kids got to decorate their own chocolate to bring home. The staff was super friendly and the store was packed. I just recently had my daughter's birthday party here and to say I'm disappointed is putting it mildly. From the start it was chaos. We had approx. 25 kids and they had two staff people working (one of which seemed new). We were crammed into a small room with no air conditioning, it was probably 80 degrees in the room. They had no music, we called to ask if they did thankfully and we brought our own. The entire party was chaos. One person trying to line up 25 kids to pour chocolate was a joke. Plus there was no organization in the kids getting what they created (except for the molds because thankfully they used stickers). We ordered extra food for the parents and we were the ones going into the back room to bring out the food and sodas and serve it! In addition, the way the part was organized threw everything off. It was an activity, then pizza, then activities, then cake....we had planned to do a chocolate fountain (activity) but they had planned it after the cake. All the kids had already left since they thought cake was the ending (not to mention the 80 degree room). At the end of the party, (after my wife cleaned up!!!) we went to speak to the manager about our disappointment. She was less than accommodating. For paying over $1000, she was totally dismissive and defending the disorganization of the party. She used the amount of kids as an argument as to why the part was chaotic. If thats the case why do we provide a final head count!!! We provide so that a location has proper head count. I mean come on!!! We will never have an event here again and will recommend the same to our friends. Nor will our friends that were there, they could not have gotten out of there fast enough. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the service here. I came in the day before Valentine's Day asking about police car favors for my sons birthday party. The woman behind the counter looked at me like I had three heads and proceeded to tell me she could not help me because it was it was the day before Valentines Day. I'm sorry my sons birthday date was an inconvenience to them. If they know it's Valentines Day then they probably should have had more employees in the store than the two people that were there. I just received a delivery from this place. These are the most disgusting berries I've ever seen. The stems are filthy and wilted, the berries can't be any smaller and they weren't refrigerated. The entire box went in the garbage. What a total waste of money for the poor person who sent them to me. I don't even want to tell her because she'll be embarassed! I have been to 3 bday parties here with my child. I do have to say I haven't been impressed at all. First off one person running the show for 25 kids doesn't work well. There is to much to do for one person. The room is very crowded, if the leader of the party doesn't grab the whole parties attention the rest of the group follows and doesn't not stay on task. I found even the parents helping out with giving out items since again there is just truly to many tasks at once. It seemed very disorganized and needs a major restructuring and flow to the party. I wouldn't recommend for bday party only if it was a very small group. read more

Purchased chocolate covered strawberries for Valentines Day. 2 days later strawberries were rotted and 2 had mold!!! I've been a customer for 5 years, purchased chocolate covered strawberries from this store in the past and they were edible for more than 2 days. I brought them back explained the situation to the woman at desk . She had a poor attitude. Laughed and said oh you must eat w/in 24 hrs. Dark chocolate peanut butter cup was bland truffles all tasted the same and the chocolate covered s'mores had a marshmallow inside that was rock hard like freeze dried ice cream texture. I had my son's birthday party this week at chocolate works in Bellmore and I couldn't be happier that I did. My son had been to 2 other birthday parties there this year so I was nervous that this group of kids would be bored doing the same thing but my son insisted and the kids had a blast. The staff is super sweet and great with the kids. I wanted a small taste of the chocolate but found myself eating more than I should cause it was delicious. I saw one of the other moms talking to the manager at the end of the party about possibly booking her daughters party, so I think we will end up here again soon. Chocolates are nice but the service is not. I bought a condolence baskets that I asked to be delivered before the services on the next day. The delivery spot was literally up the road. Not only was it delivered late in the day when no one was home but they wouldn't leave it outside. I had to pick it up from the store and deliver it myself and they never refunded my $5 delivery charge. There are plenty of other sweet shops around. I will never shop here again. read more

I had my daughter's birthday party there yesterday- it was a disgrace. I spent a fortune and am so embarrassed and disgusted at how horrible the party was. I had 27 little kids- which Chocolate Works knew i was having in advance, and there were only two people working at the party. It was completely disorganized, with kids running everywhere, and not enough people to even try to control them. One of the children fell and hit their head on the floor because of the disorganization (which the staff and manager did not even see happen because of the utter chaos). They did not put any of the food out that I ordered for the parents- I had to go into the back room and carry it in myself. Then, the chocolate and mess were not cleaned up after the kids made chocolate and I had to go and clean the room (which was 80+ degrees) myself before they brought in my daughter's cake. I had ordered the chocolate fountain, but the parents at the party could not bolt out of there fast enough after the cake, so I cancelled it. After discussing all of these disappointments with the manager Kelly, she was defensive, saying 27 children are "hard to manage," and that is the reason a child got hurt and why it was so disorganized. Well, if you can't get enough staff to deal with 27 children, do not book my party there. Tell me that you do not have staff (or are not willing to get additional staff) to accommodate that number, and i would have booked my party elsewhere. She was rude and nasty and not at all apologetic about the temperature, lack of staff, the fact that I had to clean up and serve the food I ordered, or the fact that they forgot to give me the food i ordered in the first place. I know for a fact that none of the other mothers at the party would ever go back there because everyone was so miserable, but I strongly discourage anyone who would even think about making a party to avoid this place. I paid over $1,000 to work myself, for everyone to have a horrible time, and for the manager to be horribly rude, obnoxious, and defensive about this train-wreck of a party.
