I was thrilled when Cho tam Bien opened in Garden Grove, everything was cheap and they were a sit down restaurant offering authentic Vietnamese cuisine and fast food, for some reason they call this location Cho Tam Bien and the original one on Westminster ave as #2. This should be #2 but whatever, it's smaller and it's more a fast food instead of a full restaurant with a bathroom and nice tables, nevertheless I like it as it's a shorter drive for me than having to go to Garden Grove. I cracked up seeing all the raw meats like in markets all over Asia, the chickens still had the head attached!! LOLLOL! I don't know if the refrigeration is adequate to keep the meats safe. The long table for people to have a quick meal also reminded me of Cho Ben Thanh in Saigon, I really felt I was back in VN!!! No wonder every Vietnamese coming here every year for tet festivities, most moved here and not finding jobs they all open Pho stores! Many went under and the owners then moved to Houston bc it is much cheaper to buy a house and living cost is also cheap. Markets/fast food such as this place are rare and I feel grateful to be able to relive the Saigon experience here. The soup w organ meats (Chao long) was delicious, it was a hot day and the sugar cane juice was just what I needed, I have to come back for the grilled beef, it was very good in the main store. The only reason it is not 5 stars is bc the main store is 5 stars, it is full service and had everything under the sun. They also have to do something about the homeless men harassing people at the door, they are able bodied men and should look for a job. read more

Plenty of VNese tradition foods in a small place but more modern and clearer than their other shop which is down the street. Service is aokey, hit or miss so depending on whom you're encountering. Parking is fine and cost wise, good for the portion. read more

Today order to go bun Bo hue, was recommended by a family member. Pros taste good, good amount of vegetable. Cons not enough meat, 3 slides of beef, 1 piece of pork blood and 1 small pork bone. As meat eater I like my food to have descent amount of meat and not just 3 slices of meat as picture shows. I'll consider to dine in to see if is any difference in the quality of this dish. I came here several times for the chao long. I haven't had it anywhere else so I can't compare but this place is really delicious. The dồi is really tasty. A must try in your cháo. I also have this saved because next door is the best banh bao in all of the western hemisphere. There are many yummy banh bao locations or similar names but none like here. Amazing chao long with fresh ingredients. Large variety of freshly made goods wrapped in banana leaf. This place is so legit that I only go here with my parents. Many of the items wrapped in banana leaf are not labeled so my parents help me figure out what is in each. Lots of items in the fridge that are made fresh daily. I was really craving some chao so I made a call-in order and arrived 15 minutes later to pick it up. There was an ample amount of parking and the food was ready by the time I got there. I got the chicken chao with a side of goi (Vietnamese salad) and a Chinese donut for dipping. When I got home, the chao was still steaming hot and delicious. It is comforting but still flavorful, with small pieces of pork blood. The goi was delicious! It came with a ginger dipping nuoc mam dipping sauce but the salad itself was already seasoned and refreshing. It had cabbage, pickled daikon and carrots, a huge amount of peanuts, fried onions, Vietnamese herbs, and shredded chicken. The chicken was tender and paired perfectly with the hot chao. The donut was a little too chewy but nothing a quick minute in the air fryer can't fix! About $10 for a super satisfying and hearty meal. I was able to eat this for both dinner and lunch the next day. I'll definitely come back here for my next chao craving. I heard their organ chao is really good! read more

This has been the first time I've been here in a while and I was thoroughly surprised by the taste of the porridge. In the porridge, I wasn't really sure what was in it but I believe it was a bunch of chicken parts like liver and heart. They had pork blood in there too and some type of gray sausage. I primarily liked the gray sausage portion a lot. The pork blood is also super good, my mom normally gets her pork blood here and uses it in her bun bo hue. In regards to the sides, I would not recommend adding lime to the porridge, it changes the flavor drastically, I think adding a little bit of fish sauce is okay though. This is a happening place early in the morning. There are two locations - one in Westminster and another close by in Garden Grove. My husband's grandma discovered this place with her friends during her visits to socal. She told the family to go and bring back food to San Jose during our last visit down. This place is located in a busy shopping plaza. The inside isn't too big but does manage to fit in a couple of tables and counter seating. I think they even had a high chair for my little one. I guess if you can't read or speak Vietnamese (like me), it may be a little difficult to order. Their menu on the wall was entirely in Vietnamese but I saw some take out menus that had English too. I'm told this place is known for having inexpensive but tasty food and that their specially is the rice porridge with everything and freshly made sausages. We all had a bowl of their porridge. It was nice and hot and flavorful. I did had to give my husband the pork blood and other inner parts though. The sausages were tasty and very flavorful. Since it's been months of them not prioritizing having menus , this means they don't give a crap about serving. They seem to cater to people who already know what they have to offer. If you come later in the day, this can be sold out. This happened to us last time but they said to wait for 20 minutes as more batches are being made. This is a place that I grew up eating with my family and a staple for when I am visiting OC. I'm a big porridge fan so this is very comforting to me especially on days when I'm feeling under the weather or my stomach is not feeling too well. My typical go to order would be #2 chao long which includes intestines and sausages. For the first time, I will be trying it with a side of fried dough or what Chinese people call it (油條）because the kind employee recommended it to me. They also have to go foods that they placed on the side. My family likes to get the papaya with beef. I typically do not dine in at this restaurant, it is more of a fast food place for me as I am not here early in the morning (because the commute to here is kinda far). This place is dirty as hell ...the congee was so watery that I couldn't see any rice in it being cooked . My first time and my last

I have bought live pork from them, after cooking I cut the pork meat and see this as you can see in the photo (it might be a worm in there). I have given them a call just want to remind them should be careful in selecting products, but they advise me this is normally and cut that part to throw away and can eat the meat. It was my first time here, and I called to order Chao Long to go. (Porridge with intestines and etc). I went and pick up my order and everything was fine, price as expected. Unfortunately, when I arrived at the ​home and open the containers. . . I felt totally cheated. They did not close the container tightly​ and did not tape down the lid, that is a minus. And although there were some spillage​ from one container, it was minor. I opened the other container that was not spilled, and wow just wow! They skim out so much! They did not even fill the container up all the way to the minimum level line! Please don't come back to me with the line "well we can't fill it up all the way because so and so and so. NO! You were greedy and cheated me off what I paid. I paid for a large, but the amount measured here was a medium size. I have eaten at the other Tam Bien location on Brookhurst, and it was a lot more for a large. They always filled close to the lid but unfortunately,​ this location took it upon themselves to be greedy. That is too bad because they just lost a patron that really loves Chao Long. This container is comparable to the other location because when I dine in, I order a large bowl. I take the leftovers​ home and it fills up half of the container. SO please explain to me how is it that what I order is consider a large when there​ are​ 2-3 inches of empty spaces left from the soup line to the opening mouth of the container.
