I was expecting just a regular flan and when I took that bite I was like the critique in ratatouille lol. No one had complaints about their food. They played some good R&B music the vibe was great. I had to give it a 4 star for a few reasons. I don't live the area anymore but I was recommended to go try it. I was literally the 2nd person to walk in when they opened and I had to sit at the bar because the tables were reserved. I went early just to grab a seat. I thought wrong. I guess I know for next time. The dishes are à la cart. We all thought our main dish came with rice and beans or a side but it doesn't. That was a bummer for a price. Another reason is that The bar didn't have a lot of options for liquor. I ended up staying with water. Hope they can get more whiskey or bourbon options. The food here is banging from start to finish. We came with another couple so we got a bunch of things to try a variety. We started with the chorizo egg-roll (phenomenal), the bacalao Caesar salad (it was so good we ordered a second one), the ceviche aji verde (my favorite app) and the thrice cooked chicharron. The chicharron was crispy and actually meaty not just all fat, which we liked. There is a guava bbq glaze that gave a nice salty sweetness. For mains, we shared the black pepper beef, the chicharron de pollo, and the roasted drinker chicken. Every single dish was so flavorful but the star main dish was the the chicharron de pollo. As a diasporic Chinese-Burmese Brooklynite, I love to try Chinese diasporic cuisine, so this restaurant featuring Chino-Latino cuisine in a North Brooklyn setting really called my name. They received a lot of buzz in the restaurant press when they first opened so it was tough to get a reservation at first, but I visited a year after they opened and my reservation was wholly unnecessary as the place sat mostly empty on a Saturday night. It seems that how full it gets fluctuates quite a bit but they've been able to capture a late night crowd by savvily offering karaoke after 10. Overall I'd give the food four stars. Garlic noodles are hard to mess up, and the cocktails were pretty good. The shrimp saltado was over salted, crab croquettes lacked umami. Crab rangoon toast had so much potential but just ended up tasting like fried bread with a little whiff of seafood flavor. I didn't hate it, but I'm eager to see them flex a little more in the kitchen. Happy to see they've survived the cutthroat restaurant scene these last few years, and if they offer specials and keep up that karaoke program I would consider returning. read more

An outstanding dining experience, especially as someone who has experienced a version of all these dishes, so to see it all done again in a new way was eye-opening. Music is on point. The ambiance is dim and good for a date night or a leveled up friend hangout. Recommendation is to get 1 small and 1 large per person. And you'll leave so satiated and full. Breakdown of the food (I'd get everything I ordered again): CHIPS WITH SAUCE CADDY: those sauces are unexpected. You think you know what ketchup and mayo tastes like together, but it isn't just thousand island sauce. There's a good kick to it. The chips are sufficiently salted, plentiful and overflowing out of the bowl: the perfect vehicle for the sauces. CHA SIU BITES: sticky with glaze, topped with ginger and scallion oil. It has a different flavor profile from your regular Chinatown char siu but just as good. There are plenty of chunks of char siu to share between two. ARROZ CHAUFA: each individual grain of rice is separated with an oily coat of that wok hei. Has a good ratio of vegetables to meat for a fried rice dish. The lapcheong is a really welcome bite when you get into it. HOT AND SOUR MUSHU CABBAGE: an unexpected winner in this meal. It captures the essence of a Chinese hot and sour soup perfectly. The thin pancake it comes with that I usually see paired with duck slices is the perfect vehicle. The texture just complements the plentiful vegetable mix perfectly. So you get the perfect bite: a soft exterior with crunchy cabbage interior. It comes with hoisin sauce but it doesn't even need it. Really fantastic gluten free and vegan dish. FRITO MIXTO: the maduros are the standout in this dish. A perfect crispy and crusty caramelized coat around this plantain. Fried yuca and tostones pair nicely with the sauce caddy. read more

I made resy reservations for this place as I didn't want to risk bar seating if I did walk in. Once you walk inside, you won't know that there's an enclosed back area. However, I wanted indoor seating and not the supposed back area, so I did request that part, so I am quite confused as to how I got the back area. It was cold in the back, too. I wasn't happy about that. For the food, it was average. I ordered bar nuts, an egg roll, fried rice, shrimp saltado, peachberry punch, and an ice cream sandwich. A group of 4 of us came here for an early dinner on a Saturday. We didn't realize that karaoke didn't start until much later in the night, which was a little disappointing. I ordered a Mezcal Negroni and thought it was good. We got a few apps to share: the smashed cucumbers, crab Rangoon toast, rib bites, and the chips and sauce caddy. Nothing really stood out, but if I had to pick, I would say the cucumbers were the best. The crab Rangoon toast is super oily. I didn't have the rib bites, but you should know they are mostly bone and according to the folks who had them said, kind of hard to "bite." For my main, I got the shrimp saltado with a side of rice. I thought the saltado was really good, but could have done without the potatoes in it. The potatoes weren't completely cooked through. The rice was really good; I loved the cilantro sofrito they put on it. For dessert, we ordered the ice cream sandwich and custard. The sandwich was really good. Overall, I don't think I'll come back for dinner, but could be convinced to come and try karaoke. Since we were there early, it wasn't very lively. read more

Our server, Stephen, was rude and made us feel like a burden. Dishes were slammed down, we felt rushed and the whole atmosphere became uncomfortable. Coming from the hospitality industry myself, I get how tough staffing can be. But no matter how short-staffed, you never let a guest feel your stress--because, in the end, your customers are why you're in business. They pay for your paycheck. They have changed the karaoke sign-up process where now you have to purchase an item in order to request a song but honestly, I think that is a much more fair system. I'd recommend going at 10 PM, if you would like to get a few songs in and grab a seat since it's a small place. Had dinner and drink here last night since I had plans to see a movie around the corner. The outside is very non-assuming but once you're inside the space is a very romantic cool bar/restaurant vibe. I sat at the bar - it was 8pm in Sunday and not crowded at all (though not empty either). The bartender was kind and attentive. I ordered the Pandam white rum colada, cucumber app, and twice cooked chicharron for my main. The colada was DELICIOUS- over ice instead of frozen/blended which I loved. The cucumber salad was yummy, it almost had like a pesto dressing on it - not the best cucumber salad I've had but certainly was still ice to eat. But that twice cooked chicharron - holy cow now THAT was incredible. Fatty pork pieces with crispy skin, perfectly cooked shishito and leeks, all in a spicy slightly sweet sauce. TLDR: I've been multiple times and every time the food slaps. Worth it just for the food but karaoke is the cherry on top of the cake! SETTING: nice large restaurant and crowd differs depending on which day you go. When I went during the work week for dinner. the restaurant was practically empty with a family (+small child) eating dinner and filling up a little bit more when leaving around 9. When I went on a weekend night for karaoke, almost every seat in the place was taken. It's perfect for family dinner, dinner with friends, any occasion really. FOOD: the food is the absolute standout here which is how I prefer my restaurants :) the little gem salad is spectacular and my mouth is watering just thinking about that perfectly dressed, textured, salad. Just soooo good. May be one of my favorite salads ever. Everything else I've ever eaten here has been good including the grande fries (so f-ing good, you will demolish these), the fried chicken, the rice, the BEEF TARTARE.... wow. I have never eaten anything here that I didn't like. It always hits the spot - each dish is balanced with acidity, crunch, sweet, savory. I don't know how they do it, but they do it VERY well. SERVICE: service is always good here and you never have to wait long to be helped or served. VERDICT: one of my favorite spots in Williamsburg! After ordering dinner we learned that karaoke is only inside, and we'd have to leave our table, go inside to perform, and return to our party after each song. We booked this place strictly off of seeing their viral Instagram post from @righteouseats and their affiliations with the Win Son restaurant across town. I thought Win Son was a 10/10 dining experience so of course I had high expectations. Service/Ambiance: We arrived as soon as they opened, and we were quickly seated in tables for two with stool type chairs it definitely was a tight squeeze as the place quickly filled up. There is really no where to place your coat if you're sitting in this area unless you walked about 10 feet to the bar are where there was a hook on the wall. Those backless chairs quickly became an issue for my 6'2" frame. Our waitress Sharon was excellent! She was attentive and super friendly and helpful making food recommendations, etc and definitely the reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 3. Food: Food was mid for me. The toast tasted oily, the ribs were overcooked AND oily. You def needed that sauce but I wasn't going to pay $7 for a sauce sampler. The once saving grace was the rice. Even if you're not coming after 10:30 to sing, it's definitely worth coming by for the excellent food. We tried most of the menu ranging from the addictive Little Gem ($16) to the show-stopping Lobster au Poivre ($65), and it was all delicious. Wine bar with an eclectic menu and late night karaoke. We walked in on a Thursday night and we're seated immediately at the bar. Plenty of walk in availability. Very solid wine list. There were fourteen wines by the glass which the staff made sure were still good. Lots of skin contact and natural options. Pretty nice variety. I started with a no vintage sparkling Chardonnay that was offered with a happy hour discount. I followed it up with a couple natural wines from Oregon and France. Pretty happy with the line up. Appreciated the large selection of wines by the glass. They had seven beers on draft which mostly focused on local crafts. Also a nice variety of cocktails. The bartender was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. For starters, we shared the crispy cauliflower and the mussels. Cauliflower was topped with shaved bonito, scallions, and I believe a mayo based sauce. Felt like a heavily influenced Japanese dish. The mussels were your quintessential Belgian/French bowl with a buttery red sauce with capers. Sauce was so good that we had an extra order of bread which I believe is baked at Ops. Would highly recommend both. For the main course, my wife had the buttermilk fried chicken which were huge boneless chunks of meat with a spicy seasoning a a coconut ranch. Chicken was super juicy. Almost like a southern South Pacific fusion. I had the Hawaiian Miso Kampachi which was super nostalgic of whitefish on an everything bagel emulated by the creamy mixture between the tofu sauce and fish as well as the seasoning on the dish. For dessert, we shared the banana miso custard which my wife loved as it disappeared within minutes. We didn't witness the karaoke festivities which usually start around 10 though I'd be interested to return for the shenanigans. I loved how varied the menu was. Super creative and diverse. Was very impressed with the food at Chino Grande. I tried the smashed cucumber, avocado salad, chorizo eggroll, salchicha arroz chaufa and for dessert the coconut sago. EVERYTHING tasted amazing. The vibe in the restaurant was great too.. laid back but elegant. After dinner we sat at the bar for a while enjoying the awesome playlist (heavy on Frank Ocean which I loved), and sadly we didn't stick around for the Saturday night karaoke (which was starting at 11pm).
