I'm not too crazy about their sashimi but their sushi is really great. Especially their specialty rolls which are good for throwing on the company credit card but not so much on yours. You can't go wrong with any of them and they will set you back between $11-$14 a roll but, damn are they good. If you are looking for really good Chinese food I'd suggest Golden Eagle down the street, but for a Shanghainese owned restaurant they do Japanese fare exceptionally well. However, I would still like to try their hot pepper and dried satin fish sometime. Table service is quick and easy and takeout is always spot on for me. They are meticulous about packing and placement of items as I've yet to have sushi and hot soup co-mingling, which is nice. There aren't many Chinese restaurants in this area, so this is probably your best option for some Chinese food. We paid a little less than $100 for 6 dishes, which was plenty for 6 people to share. Everything was pretty authentic and flavorful. I particularly enjoyed the szechuan steamed fish dish and the half beef half tendon dish. The curry beef noodles also weren't too bad. I wasn't a big fan of the gluten and chinese squash. The roasted duck was good, but a little too sweet. Nice place if you're in the area and are craving some Chinese food. read more

One of the worst restaurant i have visited in new jersey. They treat you like slaves and behave as if they are providing free food.To say that the service was terrible is an understatement. My boyfriend and I were coming here for brunch because it was at a great location and on the way to an event. Parking was great and the inside was a lot fancier than expected. It's not your ordinary Chinese take out. Unfortunately we had a bad experience. They don't allow you to eat in unless you spend 10 dollars per person (we found out later). My boyfriend and I (as I mentioned before) were in for brunch do we were planning on sharing food because we didn't want anything too heavy. They sat us down and took our order. They were about to bring us water and the waiter comes back saying they have a minimum per person. They asked us to order more or take it to go. Upset as I was we decided to take it to go and eat it in our car in the parking lot. Now on to the food. We ordered two scallion pancake appetizers and 1 beef chow fun. The chow fun was bland and it didn't have taste. It was oily (which is fine if it had enough flavor), and the scallion pancake was soggy. And the food here is not worse than some best Chinese restaurants I have been to. The fish there is great, as well as other things, such as pork and beef. The owner of this place comes from the city of Shanghai. So their taste is more Shanghainese than Sichuanese or Guangdongese, or Shandongese. Their food may not be as diversed as those in China, but they definitely have some good cooks! read more

Yep - got the eggplant in garlic sauce and it was COVERED in oil! The eggplants were swimming in it, and I think the overabundance of oil detracted a lot from the natural flavors of the sauce and eggplant. Also, the skin on some of my eggplant pieces were either too thick or were not cooked properly because they were difficult/impossible to chew. That being said, they still used real Chinese eggplant, which is much better than the fat American eggplants you see in the supermarkets! The beef chow fun used quality ingredients, but it was a bit lacking in flavor. Portion size for the chow fun is also a bit small (given that it's a noodle dish). The scallion pancake was very well fried (the key being lots of oil at very hot temperatures) and had some good flavors. Sadly, the quantity was quite small, which is good as an appetizer (I was just getting greedy). The service here was very good (servers are polite and are fluent in both Chinese and English). The decor shows that they are trying very hard to be an upscale restaurant (marble tables, nice soft cloth napkins), sushi bar, etc). Fortunately, the prices do not yet match those of other upscale Chinese restaurants, so I would say enjoy these prices while you can! read more

When you think of Harrison NJ, you think of amazing Portuguese and Spanish food oh so close to the Ironbound section of Newark. Great Chinese doesn't come to mind. After you go to this restaurant, you will wish more places like this were around. Food: 5 Stars Appetizers: They have the absolute best Chinese Spareribs you will ever have. They are almost dinosaur sized with a beautiful mahogany crust bursting with flavor. The meat is extremely flavorful but what makes their ribs standout is that they brush a honey glaze on them which gives them a candied texture. They are a meal all by themselves. The steamed dumplings are absolutely perfect. You can get pork or vegetable dumplings and you can tell they have been made fresh. The dough has an incredibly soft chewy texture that melts in your mouth. The wonton and hot& sour soups are equally good. The hot and sour will set your mouth on fire. Entrees: They have an outstanding selection of Lo-Mein's which are quite good. It doesn't come out greasy at all and is bursting with flavor. The noodles are cooked properly and the vegetables are fresh The pepper steak is quite good and in their version it is served with tomatoes which add a nice touch. Unlike Chinese takeout, you will find a lot of meat in the dish. They also have a full-service sushi bar which many locals say is top notch. Service: 5 Stars They have an excellent wait staff that will make accommodations if you ask. Very professional and courteous. You can tell they take pride in their establishment Atmosphere: 5 stars The restaurant is beautiful and elegant. They have dark orange walls with a lot of Chinese decorations that are accentuated by jade. The booths and tables are very spacious and comfortable. Restaurant is immaculately clean. Conclusion: Chinatown restaurant is one of the top 10 restaurants I have ever been too. The food is delicious and doesn't make your stomach explode with MSG or other takeout garbage. The pineapple fried rice was bland and just had rice, green peppers, carrots, egg (some), and pineapple (I did tell them to hold the cashew nuts and raisins)--all that for $12 and protein is extra. Chinatown pleasantly surprised me w it's chic interior and delicious Chinese and Japanese fares. I've had their food on 2 separate occasions (one dine-in and the other takeout). While they are a bit more expensive than the other Chinese food in the area (which is within 50 feet), they are the real deal & I would choose them hands-down any day. Highly recommend getting the sushi pizza. Sounded exotic & weird to me at first, but then after I took my first bite I realized why everyone was recommending it. The base of this pizza is a Chinese pancake (like a scallion pancake minus the scallions), next on goes a thin layer of spicy tuna mix then on top of that is seaweed salad, avocado & then some drizzles of their eel & wasabi sauces. I couldn't find the Sex on the Beach roll on the menu, but I remembered seeing it in the Yelp photos so I had them make it for me. SO good. It's made with some spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, fresh tuna & salmon plus avocado & cucumber. Ooh-la-la, it tasted just as good as the medley sounds. No complaints about Chinatown at all. Cute & intimate space for a first-date, highly recommend. The best part about Chinatown is their location from me ... around the corner from mi casa? AMAZING SUSHI!!! Specially for that area, where is not that many choice for sushi. A lot of options, fresh fish, and creative menu, they always have specials going on, the place is super clean, it's BYOB, which makes your check not that high, and on the side of the restaurant is a licquor store of a very nice Spanish Senor who owns a dog named Khalua (super cute by the way :) The owners are always there and they're super sweet! I have found my new go-to sushi place. Ironically, this place is called Chinatown. This place came highly recommended by some friends at school. Desperate for some good Asian food of any kind without trekking to Fort Lee or the City, I decided to cross the Passaic River into Harrison and give this place a shot. As I entered this place, I was comforted to see a lot of Chinese people in this restaurant, however, they all spoke Mandarin. I had a hunch that they probably served some kind non-Cantonese food and I was correct. The menu offered generic Americanized Chinese food and sushi and there was in insert with dishes that were more Taiwanese. Not feeling like either kind of Chinese food, I decided to go for the sushi. Not a mistake. The is fresh and good, but that's the easy part. It's the details that set this place apart. The sushi rice, tastes right, with a little bit sweet/sour of rice vinegar. The Volcano Salad is excellent, seared peppered tuna, just that itself is worth the twelve bucks. Sushi rolls are big and are creative. Will come back for sushi and perhaps one day, I will try the Chinese food at Chinatown. read more

WOW!!! We were around Ironbound and were looking for food. THANK YOU YELP!!! Chinatown came up and had good reviews, so we figured we'd shoot over to Harrision to check it out. Gotta say, this was GREAT Chinese food. We began with the appetizer and the beef sticks and bbq ribs were PHENOMENAL!!! Perfect taste and very appealing. I had the sesame chicken, thinking that it would not be memorable, but boy was I wrong. The chicken was very fresh and very tasty. Definately will come back for this dish. My friend had the pineapple chicken and we split a house special fried rice. The pineapple wasn't too overpowering, which was a pleasant surprise. The Rice was good and the service was spot on. I decided to check this place out since I live so close and have been hearing awesome reviews of this place. I didn't try the Chinese food - I probably should next time. I wasn't really impressed with the Japanese fare. It was good but not great. Service was extremely slow. It was a Friday evening and there was nobody in the restaurant when we arrived. First, our waiter was not attentive. He hardly checked up on us. Then, it took forever for the sushi chef to make the sushi, although we kept on seeing many freshly made sushi orders leaving the restaurant to delivered?! We ordered the edamame and shumai to share. The shumai was good. I also ordered two rolls: Tokyo roll and the Spicy Salmon Roll. Both rolls were good, but nothing great. I have had better sushi though. The sushi rolls were just a little too big and quite frankly, it made chewing the roll a little difficult. Would I come back again? Maybe, just to try their Chinese cuisine. read more

This place has one of the best sushi places in Harrison,NJ. One of the best seating arrangements in town. One of the rudest staff and some of the most tasteless food I have eaten. Their appetizers and soups are meagerly average. I wouldn't even feed that tasteless entrees to my dog. But the sushi's that I have ordered till now are excellent. The worst part is the staff, I can deal with inedible food but I cannot deal with a rude server. When I was asked if I wanted something to drink. I said I want COKE but they only had Pepsi according to one server so I said I will get water. Then the manager comes over and asks me what I want. I said I wanted coke. He said he will get it for me. Guess what he serves me, PEPSI. When I confronted him abt it I was told they are the same thing in a very rude way. Hands down the worst service had in two years. Our server, a woman about 55 in age, apparently was not in a good mood. Not only did she neglect us the whole time during dinner, she even chased us outside the restaurant, only to lecture us a life lesson - "You don't give 5% tips no matter what. Bad service is just an excuse you Chinese like to use. Consider yourself lucky you get to eat already on a day this busy" Well, I don't know what plannet she lives on, but a decent service has always been my, and likely most people's, criteria for giving tips. If you have had enough good service and want to try something else to refresh your life and hear some racist critics coming out from someone of your own race, this is the place for you. Been coming here for years for great Chinese food (back when it looked totally different and had large fish tanks lining the walls - which always disturbed me.) But ever since the makeover (due to a fire) they have installed a full sushi bar so don't let the "china" in Chinatown fool you! Quite a few Japanese inspired dishes can be found on the menu! Whenever I can walk to get sushi it's going to get stars just for proximity. Luckily, their sushi is pretty damn good and the stars are strictly for that. Bring your own (fill in the blank with your favorite poison - mine happens to be plum wine or a bottle of red), loosen the belt (you'll eat too much or maybe it's just me) and enjoy the comfy seats, great service and yummy food! read more

The salad was also large, but the carrot ginger dressing was not to my taste, too much vinegar and not enough carrot. I was in town for work and a group of us had this delivered to our hotel. We all loved what we ordered. Delivery took about 4 minutes which isn't bad and was completely worth the wait. We ordered edamame, a Harrison sushi roll, chicken Lo mein, fried rice, hot and sour soup and shrimp spring rolls. The three of us all had nothing but good things to say about our food. Truly one of the last old style Chinese restaurants. Not the storefront fast food spots located on every corner but a nostalgic restaurant with old style Chinese flavors. Im used to the brown flavored style fried rice i grew up on....not todays yellow fried rice found in most fast food chinese spots. This is not a FAST food eastery. One of the waiters here really cracked me up... very friendly staff. We went in as a group of 8 people for dinner, including a kid. We probably ordered 6 main dishes with rice, 3 of them vegetables and 1 being a mix of veggie and meat. So the portion was great. Decent Chinese food, fairly authentic. I was glad they offered yellow chives, which were seasonal. If the food is less greasy, I'd probably give it a five star. The best place in the area for good sushi and amazing Chinese food.I've dined here plenty of times and never been disappointed. The hostess is very friendly and always make sure you get sited as quick as possible. IF you're hungry hungry then you defiantly have to get the fried calamari with the spicy mayo. All I got to say is bomb, so good. There Latin Lover and the Anger Dragon rolls are great. For the main course, I would go with the House Speical Trio Delight. I love the food here. It is beyond. The service is always friendly. The sushi guy is so fun especially if you get him when the place is not too busy. Make sure you order the sushi pizza. It's not what you expect. Sadly I've ordered for pick up twice and twice in a row they have not had my food prepared. This second time I ordered rice and it's been 55 minutes and I'm still waiting.
