First off, the drinks were great! The live music is awesome. JD from JD and Fam was shredding at ChinaLand! He used to be in Heart and Soul, but he moved on and has his own band now. @jd_and_fam on IG. He is phenomenal and we can't wait to have him back to play again!

When I visit I always stop to eat Chinaland's chicken & vegetables. Delicious & healthly option and helps you 'go' too!

Soo yummy! The people were so nice and generous! Egg rolls were packed with flavor and the pot sticks were juicy on the inside.

Daaaaamn, Chinaland! You are definitely part of Oxnard history if you've been around still for this long. I'm impressed! My family and I have been coming here for many years for their fresh and flavorful Chinese food (obviously). They serve jjam pong (Korean spicy seafood noodle soup) and jja jang myun (noodles in black bean sauce). The times before the ambiance felt a bit old and classical music was playing before but now they revamped the whole place and it looks really modern. i think they also remodeled the restaurant in order to make the hotspot Club Zen. Really feeling the new look. Anyways, we ordered a couple orders of jjam ppon and bunch of shrimp entrees including orange shrimp, black pepper shrimp and Kung pao shrimp (It was a Lent Friday). Out of all the shrimp entrees, the black pepper shrimp was my fave! Orange shrimp was okay and kung pao shrimp was the close second. Jjam ppong of course is my parents' all-time go-to soup. Overall, a solid 4 outta 5 stars for Chinaland. Could be 3 but they've improved plenty :)

We like this place for cocktails because it is so close to home we could walk if need be. We finally tried it for dinner. I would definitely come back. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice and a cup of egg drop soup. Soup was good. We have had their war won ton soup before and that is excellent. Sweet and sour chicken was as good as any other place. Nothing too unique, but good. Pork fried rice was EXCELLENT! We loved it. The pork was super tender and cooked perfect as was the rice. Drinks are good. My husband asked for a large beer tap...dang that thing was huge. I had an Angry Agave (I think that's what it's called) with Angry Orchard, tequila and Triple Sec. It was yummy. In fact I bought the ingredients so I can make them at home. Service was great. Food was hot and fresh. The servings are super generous. We took a lot of it home and enjoyed it later. I just wonder why at peak dinner time on a Friday night it was rather empty. I know it gets packed later as a nightclub. All in all, we will keep coming back.

    I'm going to Chinaland!

Casual Dining 4/5/2008 Unless you're a local, Chinaland is probably a restaurant that you wouldn't intend to visit. Even if you are a local, you've probably only glanced at it when you've driven by the Oxnard airport. Why does it seemingly give you this negative vibe? Well, you're in South Oxnard for one, it's also located at the corner of the CVS plaza, the area is kind of run-down, and it's not near any of the freeways. However, this hasn't stopped me and my parents from frequenting this place since I was in middle school. To be honest, it actually doesn't differ from many of the Chinese restaurants that you could find in Chinatown, but that doesn't mean much. They still use the same rubbery meat (It kind of makes me wonder why I've never actually found a cut of meat that resembles anything like that), perfectly sliced 'zigzag' carrots, and the same monotonous sauce used in many of their dishes. So why do we still go there? I don't know exactly. But they don't use MSG and their staff are really good people. Their vegetables are fresh and you can see one of the older ladies snapping the ends of the long beans to prep them for cooking. Their Chinaland special crispy noodles are also above average, and well... that's really about it. I'd give this: a 10/20. It's your typical Chinese food fare, with an added bonus of No MSG and wonderful service. If you live near the area, it wouldn't hurt to order takeout. However, if you're actually looking for a good dinner for the same prices, visit Peking Inn at Camarillo.

If you're going to hang your hat on the speakeasy aesthetic--dim lights, hushed tones, whispers of…read moreexclusivity--then understand this: you're entering into an unspoken pact with your patrons. We expect a certain standard, a level of care that borders on obsession. So when I catch Evan Williams--respectable, questionable, but barely twelve bucks a bottle--making an appearance behind the bar, it feels like a breach of trust. A quiet betrayal under low lighting. The illusion only works if the details hold up under scrutiny... and that pour? It broke the spell. And then comes the real offense: discovering that your Old Fashioned--the crown jewel of any respectable cocktail program--are built on bottom-shelf, dust-collecting bourbon. That's not just a letdown, it's a slap in the face. A cocktail like that deserves reverence, not shortcuts. And as if to twist the knife, there it was--a massive can of red maraschino cherries sitting shamelessly atop the bar, like some relic from a dive that's given up on finesse. It wasn't just a misstep. It was disrespect. In a place claiming the speakeasy mantle, details like these matter. They're the difference between theater and parody. The cocktails did not warrant the $15 price tag. Moreover, I would have paid more had I know the class of bourbon upfront. What ultimately redeems the space is its ambiance. The low flicker of the fireplace, the soft embrace of worn leather sofas, the curated hum of music floating just above conversation--it's seductive, even soulful. The room itself is small, intimate--the kind of place where you're bound to recognize a face, or at the very least, feel inclined to invite a stranger to share the sofa and maybe a story. And then there's the setting--tucked beneath a historic relic, a basement bar built into the bones of old Americana. The building dates back to the early 1900s, echoing with a past that deserves to be honored, not phoned in. That's exactly why I expected more from the cocktails. A place with this much atmosphere shouldn't fall flat when it comes to what's in the glass. It's a mismatch--a beautiful stage, but a script that doesn't quite rise to meet it.

The cocktails change so it's always fun to come back! I always try to be there when this section opens. I love the calmness of the space and it gets livelier as the night progresses and it does get packed Always one of my highly recommended spots for people who want great drinks, fantastic atmosphere and delicious food. I'm looking forward to my next stop in!

The axe throwing itself is $35 per person but it is worth it if you are looking for a fun activity or destressor (lol). If you opt out from axe throwing they have other options like card/ board games as well. Side note: They don't have food vendors but there's lots of wonderful food options around the area walking distance. In regards to the drinks, every beer/ alcoholic drink they carry is intentional and they rotate based off season. It was a slow night for them. As we arrived at the bar to check in and I have to say that there was not much joy in are presence. My husband presented the Groupon and she immediately said, "Yeah, were not taking those anymore" and mentioned the manager or owners name. My husband immediately showed her that the Groupon had not expired yet. She fiddled looking in the computer and eventually allowed us to sign the waiver and Ray led us to our lane. Listen, if the place was super busy and they were swamped, I could see why they would be bothered by a Groupon hassle. But that was NOT the case and the fact of the matter is, they did not apologize for doubting the validity of the Groupon. It was more like we were an annoyance that we came in at all. Didn't ask us if we wanted something to drink. Ray was excellent at his presentation and instruction, but we were the only people throwing at the time and I was having issues with even hitting the board with the metal part of the axe. Just a helpful hint for the throwers, you will have to get someone back over there by asking if you need anymore help. They are not going to volunteer to help you again. All and all it is a fun environment, but I doubt we will be going back anytime soon. You want to spend money in an establishment that wants you there. Not one that acts like you just pissed in their Cheerios by showing up. Fun place to try, but frustrating if you can't throw the axe correctly to make it stick to the wall.
