If I could give this restaurant two separate reviews, I would. I've been multiple times for drinks and a nightcap and the vibe is really nice. Chill atmosphere, older crowd, and good drinks. The door charge on slower nights can feel a little odd but I get it. Food wise, not a fan. Portions are big but the quality doesn't match the price and it's been hit or miss most times we've tried it. I wouldn't come just for the food unless it's something basic. The location is amazing the ambiance is great. The owner is friendly and inviting. The food is delicious a bit pricey but delicious. The location can be used for events and has a good atmosphere with a lot of space for guest. There's plenty of parking and they have an outdoor patio for smoking. We've been drinking past Chinaland for years and finally stopped in with friends for dinner. It was a Sunday night and pretty empty so we had our pick of tables. Our sever was nice and we Solent some time speaking to the owner about the history of the restaurant. We ordered a couple chicken dishes, a couple shrimp dishes, chow mein, fried rice, and soup. Everything was prepared fresh and was very good. The prices were fair. The restaurant turns into a night club at 9:00 PM but we were gone by then. An overall enjoyable experience. read more

My wife and I were not happy by our recent visit to this restaurant. The wait to be seated was excessively long due to the nightclub atmosphere. Compared to other Chinese restaurants, the prices were significantly higher. Furthermore, refills were not complimentary, and the soda was overpriced at $5 each. The DJ's music was loud, and our meal was expensive, totaling $96 before the tip. oh wait when we got home wife got sick to her stomach...Stay far away from this place!! would of been no stars but in order to leave review have to mark one. read more

Daaaaamn, Chinaland! You are definitely part of Oxnard history if you've been around still for this long. I'm impressed! My family and I have been coming here for many years for their fresh and flavorful Chinese food (obviously). They serve jjam pong (Korean spicy seafood noodle soup) and jja jang myun (noodles in black bean sauce). The times before the ambiance felt a bit old and classical music was playing before but now they revamped the whole place and it looks really modern. i think they also remodeled the restaurant in order to make the hotspot Club Zen. Really feeling the new look. Anyways, we ordered a couple orders of jjam ppon and bunch of shrimp entrees including orange shrimp, black pepper shrimp and Kung pao shrimp (It was a Lent Friday). Out of all the shrimp entrees, the black pepper shrimp was my fave! Orange shrimp was okay and kung pao shrimp was the close second. Jjam ppong of course is my parents' all-time go-to soup. Overall, a solid 4 outta 5 stars for Chinaland. Could be 3 but they've improved plenty :) read more

I have been going here since 1994, I always love there food. fried wontons are my favorite side, and I love so many plates there.

We like this place for cocktails because it is so close to home we could walk if need be. We finally tried it for dinner. I would definitely come back. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice and a cup of egg drop soup. Soup was good. We have had their war won ton soup before and that is excellent. Sweet and sour chicken was as good as any other place. Nothing too unique, but good. Pork fried rice was EXCELLENT! We loved it. The pork was super tender and cooked perfect as was the rice. Drinks are good. My husband asked for a large beer tap...dang that thing was huge. I had an Angry Agave (I think that's what it's called) with Angry Orchard, tequila and Triple Sec. It was yummy. In fact I bought the ingredients so I can make them at home. Service was great. Food was hot and fresh. The servings are super generous. We took a lot of it home and enjoyed it later. I just wonder why at peak dinner time on a Friday night it was rather empty. I know it gets packed later as a nightclub. All in all, we will keep coming back. read more

Casual Dining 4/5/2008 Unless you're a local, Chinaland is probably a restaurant that you wouldn't intend to visit. Even if you are a local, you've probably only glanced at it when you've driven by the Oxnard airport. Why does it seemingly give you this negative vibe? Well, you're in South Oxnard for one, it's also located at the corner of the CVS plaza, the area is kind of run-down, and it's not near any of the freeways. However, this hasn't stopped me and my parents from frequenting this place since I was in middle school. To be honest, it actually doesn't differ from many of the Chinese restaurants that you could find in Chinatown, but that doesn't mean much. They still use the same rubbery meat (It kind of makes me wonder why I've never actually found a cut of meat that resembles anything like that), perfectly sliced 'zigzag' carrots, and the same monotonous sauce used in many of their dishes. So why do we still go there? I don't know exactly. But they don't use MSG and their staff are really good people. Their vegetables are fresh and you can see one of the older ladies snapping the ends of the long beans to prep them for cooking. Their Chinaland special crispy noodles are also above average, and well... that's really about it. I'd give this: a 10/20. It's your typical Chinese food fare, with an added bonus of No MSG and wonderful service. If you live near the area, it wouldn't hurt to order takeout. However, if you're actually looking for a good dinner for the same prices, visit Peking Inn at Camarillo. read more

It's not often we go out for Chinese. Decided to give this restaurant a try and so far it didn't disappoint. The food was really delicious and the owners constantly came to check how everything was and how to food tasted. My husband enjoyed every bite of his orange chicken and I must say it was very good. The wait on the food was a bit long however once we got our order it didn't matter because it was absolutely amazing. I really like this restaurant and we will surely be back. read more

Excellent.... Great taste of Chinese food and the service was the very best we have experienced in a long long time. We were there early for dinner and did receive the best service. We will definitely come back for another meal. It was an amazing and personal experience. One of the buildings had the doors locked... and said open, but it was actually another side entrance. So we were ushered to go around to the other side, which was actually the front doors. Maybe an arrow on the door would help others that might be thinking that it is closed. They say chicken soup is the best thing you can have when you're sick. They lied. The best thing you can have is War Wong Ton soup from here. Packed with chicken, beef, shrimp, noodles, celery, bamboo shoots, carrots, mushrooms & snow peas this soup packs in vitamins & FLAVOR! The moment my husband, our children or myself feel any cold or flu like symptoms, this is where we eat. Sizes: A small can be shared by two people if being eaten as the main meal, but if soup is just a starer, then a small can feed up to four, maybe five people. A medium can feed my whole family & still have a small cup left over. A large, well a large can feed a small village. We also love the Kung Pao Chicken, Almond Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, Egg Rolls, Egg Flour Soup, House Noodles, and the ever famous Pu Pu Platter. I have such a good time on Saturday nights at Chinaland Oxnard. It's a grwat neighborhood spot with featured Djs and occasional live music. Great Chinese food! Three of us went for lunch at the end of the weekday lunch hour. The reduced price lunch options come with a potsticker and mini-egg roll - both were tasty. We ordered and enjoyed the lunch portions of Szechuan Chicken (xtra spicy) and the Almond Chicken. We also ordered the Special Chow Mein entree. Took a little long for lunch to come out... maybe 20 minutes. But, the food was hot and delicious! The Special Chow Mein came with all the meats (shrimp, chicken, pork, and beef). I've gone back and forth on writing a review on my recent experience. I have to say this was my first time ordering dinner here and have only been here maybe 3 times in the past 10 years. They must have done some remodeling since the last time I visited because the inside looked completely different. Unfortunately, the service hadn't changed at all. I initally went to meet a girlfriend and listen to good band that was playing. Since I hadn't eaten all day, I decided to order dinner. It took a while for our server to come to our table. When she came back, 15 minutes later, she still hadn't filled my drink order. After another 10 minutes she brought my food out. Unfortunately, my order was wrong and needed to be made again. When my food was finally served the last server had taken my fork w/ the 1st plate of food. I asked another server for table service but it never came. I was so hungry I tasted a small piece of chicken with my fingers...it tasted NOTHING like the chinese food that I had ordered. When our server finally came back my food was completely cold. I explained what had happened to the server and told her I didn't want the food and wasn't going to wait for it to be heated up. Not once did she ever apologize for the bad service or food issues. She also never brought back my drink I had ordered. I have been in the food business before and understand being busy. To be quite honest if it were not for the great music I would have given them a 1 star. Maybe they just want the bar service and don't care about the restaurant part...if so then maybe they should get rid of the food. I was definitely disappointed with my experience. read more

Egh...definitely one of the worst Chinese dining experiences that I've had. Service was slow, food was below par, the environment would be ok for a party but not for a mellow night out for dining. We all added on the soup/fried rice/egg roll/wonton option to our entrees and they only brought soup and steamed rice then refused to remove the charge or give us what we requested for the food option. Definitely not work $100 for 3 people to eat out (no alcohol)...lots of food and leftovers but I doubt anyone will eat them. Go to China Square instead!
