I hadn't been to a La Vero's in a few years. Whoa ! Was happy I checked this out. It's 5 minutes from my house! It was raining cats and dogs but the drive in the rain was sooooooo worth it. Haha, I try not to drive too much in the rain as people don't know how to handle it. They drive too fast! From the chips and salsa de molcajete to our main courses ! So good. Service was amazing. We were tended to like we were family . Portions are generous and everything was tasty. I ordered a quesadilla with a handmade tortilla and asada. It was $8 and I felt full. Others may need two of those . I think I just had been eating a lot of the chips lol! Gorgeous ambiance . Beautiful mural done by Checkos ( a local Oxnard artist) . He painted sone of our most beloved Mexican icons/ legends! Gorgeous! didn't get to shoot too much of it as it was packed on a Saturday night. I think we waited about 10 mins to be seated as only 2 but bigger groups waited longer. Shout to Mia ... she is an amazing server. My friend had forgot her leftovers and she ran out in the rain to hand it to her . Plenty of parking . They also have a patio . Not sure if open yet. The live Mexican musuc was fire! We arrived 4 hours early to get a good spot to watch the World Cup. My friends and I were so excited, but there are a few things I have to say. The food was excellent, and so were the drinks. The service, however, was not. Monica, our server, was nice and generous, but during the 5 hours we were there, she only checked on us once or twice. It took almost 45 minutes to an hour just to place our food order. Meanwhile, she constantly checked on and served the table behind us. Every time we needed something, like napkins or drinks, we had to wait for her to finish serving the table behind us just to get her attention. We even had to ask food runners for help and get up from our table to ask another server. When we were ready to leave and pay, it took almost one to two hours to get our check. We understand that after the World Cup ended, everyone was trying to leave at the same time, but she never came by to check on us. We had to get up and ask a manager for our check twice. The second time, he gave us attitude by throwing up his hands and shrugging his shoulders. We were also charged for a couple things that we NEVER got and it was pointless to ask knowing it probably would take another hour to come keep in mind our bill was over $700 dollars. Overall, not the best experience. There were TVs everywhere, and the food and drinks were amazing. I just wish we had received better service and experience. Had dinner with a friend tonight. Server was friendly and attentive. Ordered two orders of enchilada plates with rice and beans to go for family members. One with everything and the other without the toppings, lettuce, tomato, crema or jalapeños. Got home and really upset to see the plate without the toppings. No cheese on the enchiladas! I never said, no cheese. Not even the piece of cheese on the beans. Attached are pictures of both plates. Who eats enchiladas without cheese? I don't. Had appointment at the post office and asked what's good for lunch in the area and hands down they said La Vero's and that this location recently opened. Charming place, very clean, and attentive staff. Everything came quickly as ordered. The salsa is a bit spicy so don't expect anything mild. Had queso chorizo and quac with chips as appetizers. Both delicious. All the main meals were great. Wife and I shared the combo fajitas. A little disappointed fajitas don't come with cheese or sour cream but tasty just the same. read more

We had a large party on the patio. Beautiful area and perfect space to ourselves. Our server Issac was great but he was spread too thin. We didn't receive some items in a timely manner and he seemed like he was trying so hard but didn't have help. He had tables inside as well as our 25 person party. I feel it was best to have him just on our large party or have two people out with us so they didn't lag. We wanted to split the checks but couldn't for some reason so that made paying extra stressful,long, and difficult. We got out of there pretty late due to this issue. The food was overall good. Some dishes were average but good like enchiladas while others like the molcajete were amazing. The alcoholic drinks were all great! Overall I feel service lacked but not due to friendliness of our server (he was so kind and helpful), but lack of support for him from upper management. Not happy! Such a shame that this restaurant SCAMS you when the Bill comes! I went to dinner with a few family members and got separate checks. Pretty normal, right? Wrong! The food was good, the restaurant looked nice, but our server Issac, STEALS from his customers! This guy added a 20% gratuity to all of our individual bills AND THEN proceeded to add a 20% tip on top of that! He had a small tablet and would not let anyone see it or touch it. Lucky I only ordered 2 drinks, a soda and a Paloma. That came out to over $24.00!!! I saw what he was doing I took his tablet and took ALL that off and put NO TIP!!! My actual bill came out to $15!!! I am all about leaving a tip, but dont steal an extra tip and be dishonest about it!!! I wonder how many people this place has scammed!!! DO BETTER! AND THE MENUS WERE STICKY!!! BOOO!!! I met up with a girlfriend and we decided to sit at the bar just for fun--and WOW, what a great decision! The drinks were absolutely amazing. Marylu, the bartender, made the best tamarindo margarita with agave--hands down delicious and perfectly balanced. We ordered the parrilla de mariscos, and it was outstanding--so flavorful and cooked to perfection. Moni, our waitress, was incredible: attentive, friendly, and truly made us feel taken care of. You can genuinely feel the positive energy among the staff, and the owner, Vero, is simply awesome and welcoming. We ended up staying almost three hours because the vibes were THAT good. We decided to try this spot because they are dog friendly (patio) & close to home. We've been twice & haven't been disappointed. The food & service were great. The only thing we noticed about sitting in the patio area, were the shady characters often walking by. Both times we've sat out there we've noticed this. It can make you feel somewhat on edge. Stopped by with my niece that was visiting from Oregon. We were greeted by the owner, Vero. She was friendly and with a beautiful smile. We were seated and, asked for recommendations. For an appetizer, we ordered Aguachiles. We each had a margarita and different style tacos. Everything was delicious. The service was impeccable. I will definitely be returning here. First time visiting this location and let me start off by saying they have a good variety of drinks! I got a piña colada & it was okay nothing too crazy. The vibe was good which i enjoyed as well. I also ordered enchiladas de pollo & again they were okay id say home made enchiladas are better with more flavor but hey at least i know not to order them again. Once i got home my stomach started to hurt & also my family started to complain as well & thats when we knew it had to be the food since thats all we had that day... let me just say..... i was stuck in the toilet all day which was HORRIBLE. Service was great, we ordered aguachiles and the steak fajitas both were so good. My favorite aguachiles out of any other place in the area. Although the fajitas were a little oily the flavor was there. I also got a carne asada wet burrito we did not care for. The tortilla on the burrito was not homemade or good. The meat in the burrito was also very chewy and a lot of fat pieces in there. The tortilla we received with the fajitas was very delicious and could tell that one was homemade. The steak we got with the fajitas was also better quality. Their horchata is my favorite by far over any other restaurant. The michelada is also great. We waited over an hour just to get our check while the servers stood around talking and not paying attention. The food wasn't good, and I even found a hair in my meal. We came in for an advertised "Happy Hour" 3-6, around 4:30. When we came in we were greeted by the hostess, we let her know we'd be sitting in the bar. We sat ourselves and waited about 6-7 minutes before the host came by and gave us menus. I looked through the menu for a happy hour section, but was unable to find anything, I checked with my husband and he too was unsuccessful. About 10 more minutes past and the hostess came back to our table to bring cold chips and salsa. If you've been to La Veros other locations chips are always nice and warm. She let us know that our server would be with us in a few minutes. I asked if they had a separate happy hour menu or if she knew what drinks maybe were on special. She did not, but my husband said maybe the server will know. So after another 10 minute wait the server finally came. He did not know about happy hour either. We ordered a beer and our food. We almost got up and left while waiting for our beer as it took well over 15 minutes to receive it. Mind you there were other people at the bar who were interacting with the owner, who walked in after us, who were served before us. So we finally get our beer and shortly after our food. We also got our appetizer, aquachiles, after our main dish. The carnitas were cold, i ordered this every time i go to the other locations and they are nice and hot. The server did not come back once to check on us. I was excited to have a location closer to home, but after this experience i will not be coming back to this location, maybe la veros in general. read more
