Another really good Chinese food place in Vallejo. Ive been having some Chinese cravings as of late so I decided to check around the area. When I saw the solid reviews I decided to give this place a shot and it didn't disappoint. Today I ordered them on Doordash but I actually had tried them last week and just had to have them again! Their Chow Fun and Chow Mein are both really good. Their Potstickers might be my favorites in the area. They've got really good flavor. I really liked their Honey Walnut Chicken though. It was still slightly crispy and not too saucey but yet there was still a good amount of sauce at the bottom of the tray. What's nice about this is that you get to choose how sweet you want each bite to be which is something I haven't seen in a long time. I thought that it was pretty cool that they did that. Aside from that, another reason I like China Wok is because of their selection. They have a lot of items on their menu that you actually don't see on other places menu so that's kind of refreshing. I like China Wok. Always have. Service is always friendly. They recently implemented a new system where you can press a service button and call your server. However you can easily get the attention you need as they're usually on top of service and not too busy. I noticed they turned the heater on for us since it was chilly. Food comes out quick, within 10-15 mins of ordering. Chicken can sometimes be a lil dry but flavors are on point. We were having a poultry mood and ordered the black bean chicken, general Tsos chicken, and spicy garlic chicken. Combo chow fun and rice. No complaints about the food. I ordered the BBQ pork with vegetables and fried rice lunch special. The soup was standard fair and so was their fried rice but I really enjoyed the bbq pork and the fresh vegetables with it. Unfortunately we placed an 89.00 order last night, and the egg rolls were burnt, so sad but hey it happens sometimes. This was a mixed bag. They were very fast, but the food quality and recipe accuracy was lacking. If you like Ma Po Tofu/Bean Curd, please heed my warning and do not order it here. What I got did not resemble Ma Po Tofu at all. It had basically no spice (in spite of it being listed as hot and spicy on the menu) and did not contain any detectable fermented broad bean paste or szcheuan peppercorn (two critical ingredients that make Ma Po Tofu what it is). The sauce was a very bland, beige colored sauce with a few red pepper flakes, and it tasted faintly of sweet and sour sauce. I got a large portion hoping to eat some for lunch and some for dinner. Now I'm at home making my own sauce so I can rinse the remaining tofu off and remake it with the correct type of sauce. I think they might not get very many orders for it and didn't have the proper ingredients on hand and threw something together with what they had. The chow mein was standard takeout chow mein. No complaints there. I did not like that the broccoli beef had cinnamon and anise in the marinade. It's not really a standard ingredient for broccoli beef, so I feel this should have been noted on the menu. The beef was also quite tough and didn't seem like it was properly velveted. read more

Apparently this place has been under new management meaning new owner, new cook. We've been in Vallejo since 2003 and China Wok Cuisine was introduced to us by my late mother in law and my family and I had been visiting the place since. But since our retirement in 2019 plus the pandemic in 2020, our visits had been sporadic. Anyway, we just ordered our usual favorites but to our surprise not only did everything looked different, they also tasted different as well. Well, more like tasteless. For starters, the fried chicken wings and the salt and pepper spareribs were overcooked. No taste unless you bathe them in the sauce they came with. The chicken curry was dry as a bone as if it was cooked in curry powder rather than curry sauce. The same goes for the fish fillet with black bean sauce. We could see the black beans but could barely see a trace of the sauce. My husband who has difficulty chewing solid food was so disappointed when he saw the chunks of the supposedly fish "fillet". The combination mushu looked like just a pile of shredded vegetables. The previous owner was voted #1 in Vallejo because their food was indeed delicious. This new management is not even close, not even by a mile! How disgusting...definitely not going back nor wasting our money at this place ever again!!! UPDATE: Owner's response is quite rude as if stating that since mentioned that we are retired (only in my 50's while hubby is in his mid 60's) he seem to insinuate that we're to acknowledge that we're OLD and to just accept that our tastes change as well as the world BUT not their cooking?? Vallejo doesn't have many good Chinese options so I'm glad I finally tried this place. I called ahead for a Mongolian beef lunch special and it was ready when I arrived less than 15 minutes later. The quality of beef seemed good so I felt like the price was appropriate. It was tender and I didn't come across a lot of inedible pieces like I have at other restaurants. Parking was easy & the pickup process was simple. Walk up to the door and the employee (or owner, not sure) will greet you and assist with either picking up your food or taking your order. The food was as if they were doing an experiment to see how long they could hold food under a heat lamp before it became totally inedible. Everything except the steamed rice was messed up. The prawns were tough and chewy like beef jerky in the Honey Walnut Prawns. The pork in the Sweet & Sour Pork was so hard I almost chipped my tooth. Honestly, My rate is a 3.5. The food was delicious, no problem in the taste. But their serving portions is very small :(. I went in with my family, and we were a 6 person family. We had to order 7 plates: 2 chicken chow-mein (idk how to spell it, sorry ), 2 fried rice, 2 orange chicken, a pork dish. We stopped ordering more plates b/c our bill was over $100 already with drinks. We were expecting large dinner plates of our food, but they were brought out in small plates. If you eat a plate with small servings, this place could work for you, but my family are big eaters, and we were still hungry when we left. The employees were nice though and they give complementary gum when you leave. The place is nice too; they play soft Cantonese violin music. Agreed, again as others have mentioned, not a lot of flavor. My chicken is always tough. General, lemon, sesame, tough. Chow main has huge chunks of red onion it, not something I personally like. Fried rice was very fried to the point of crunchy. Is it all edible, yes. Big portions, yes. Expensive, yes. The people are nice. Ordering online is easy. But for $70 for two peeps, no. I think our next Chinese craving we are just going have to leave town for now. Vallejo is good for other things but Chinese ain't one. read more
