    The obligatory steamed white rice

Driving back to Indy I found myself on west hwy 40 and was starving. Chinese sounded good, and Yelp came to my rescue with China Wok in Plainfield. I called ahead for takeout and the gentleman who answered took my order quickly and efficiently. I was quoted 15 minutes for pick up, and it was ready timely. I arrived and a man behind plexiglas retrieved my order and cashed me out (pro tip: to go condiments are directly behind you as you're standing at the counter). It appeared to be a busy place, as I could see several people cooking in the back with large woks. The small restaurant was steamy! My bean curd with mixed vegetables and hot & sour soup both smelled great all the way home. Once I got in the door, I couldn't wait to try the soup. It was still hot, and as flavorful as any H&S I've had but there was just a hint of a different taste. Not bad, but almost a processed flavor, like soup that comes from a can. Not saying this is the case, but it's the best way I can describe the flavor. Nonetheless it was still good. My bean curd (tofu) dish was different that what I was used to as well. At other restaurants I've had the same dish with a clear sauce. This dish had a brown sauce...it was not unpleasant, but more oily that I was used to. Again, perhaps just a difference in interpretation. Nonetheless, the portions were large for the price and this meal easily made 2 servings. CW was worth trying and all in all a quick, decent take out meal.

Craving some Chinese during the quarantine and we were thrilled to find the China Wok. They were taking every precaution for safety. The general tros shrimp was delicious and the servings were huge. We also had some shrimp fried rice, and it was also fabulous, We will defiantly be ordering here again!

Worst service I've encountered in the last couple years. The cook said they don't have salt, when we asked for a slight change to our order. Don't havIt was a struggle to get them to give us bowls so that we could eat the food we just paid for in their store. So many other options out there, you don't need to tolerate such poor customer service.

This restaurant is fine..it's okay. I like that they have some familiar Chinese food and make it to order instead of having it sit out on a buffet. And I liked that the entree I ordered didn't take too long to make. The Beef and Broccoli was cooked properly with the beef being very tender and the broccoli having a little bit of bite to it. Oh, and the spring roll that I got was pretty tasty and larger than most places I've gone. But the place is as sterile as can be. They have a minimal amount of decor and the dated bench style seating looks like a typical fast food place. Not much to make you think China. The staff behind the counter was efficient, but not really welcoming. The photos they have the food behind the counter don't look that appetizing. It just isn't a place that says "Hey, stay here and eat." So, I got my order to go. What I will say is that the food was nice and hot and stayed so all the way home. What that did though, was overcook the rice by the time I got to it. The meat, though tender, relied solely upon the sauce for flavor. No flavor from the grill (browning) at all. And the egg roll, though good, didn't have any dipping sauce options, so I simply used what was on my entree to perk up the flavor. Nothing here to set it apart from lots of chain store Chinese restaurants and certainly not a place that feels inviting to dine in. It's probably a good enough place for locals to grab something quick, but not a place I would go out of my way to return to. Review #1960

Really nice people. Appears to be family run and operated. The food is cooked fresh and is better than panda express as well as cheaper.

The Pepper Steak is still the best I have ever had at any Chinese restaurant. I need to come back more often. She got the Pot Stickers which were good. I had one too. I did expect for there to be a light breading cause it is deep fried. What I wasn't expecting was laziest excuse for a dish. This is exactly why I'm always skeptical when going to a restaurant. Will I encounter an owner and chef who actually cares about what they're serving? Or will I encounter the " Buy everything from a restaurant supplier of mass produced frozen bags only to later be ripped open and poured into a deep fryer and served up as " Honey Chicken". I normally don't leave bad reviews but for god sakes people, " MAKE AN EFFORT!" How hard is it to cut an actual piece of chicken and lightly bread it yourself. Is it really that difficult to make a meal half decent!!! I can't speak for any of their other dishes but this is the one I got. From the looks of other pictures they probably do it with other items as well. Shrimp as well I'm sure.

Disappointing Experience at Peking China Buffet 9/16/2025 at 11am…read moreRating: (1/5) Visited Peking China Buffet in Plainfield, IN for lunch with two friends--and unfortunately, it was a letdown from the moment we walked in. The dining room was dim due to multiple burnt-out bulbs, and the stained ceiling didn't help the first impression. Our server showed us to the table with no greeting or smile, just a quick drink order. The buffet itself was sparse and looked tired--most trays had only a few items, and very little appeared fresh. I tried to stick to the newly replenished dishes, but even that felt like a gamble. The moment that sealed it: my buddy accidentally dropped an egg roll on the floor, placed it at the end of the buffet bar, and grabbed the last one. Minutes later, I returned to find that same dropped egg roll had been put back into the serving bin. That raised serious concerns about food safety and cleanliness. After taking a closer look around, the place felt dirty and poorly maintained. Later that afternoon, all three of us felt ill. Between the high prices, stale food, and questionable hygiene, this is not a place we'll be returning to.

I did not go inside, but from my vantage point it looks like there's a few places to sit and they keep the inside very clean. I got the BBQ boneless spare ribs with fried rice ($11, one of the more expensive meals there). It is a large portion, and I split mine between two meals. It also came with a chicken egg roll which was really meaty and crispy - both good things. I didn't take a picture of everything right away but I instead share my lunch portion picture. The ribs are tender and already bite sized atop the bed of rice. The fried rice does not have a ton of vegetables in it, which is fine. I don't frequent Avon very often, but I'd definitely keep this place in mind when picking up dinner after coming from the airport!
