This restaurant is consistently excellent, across the board. Go to favorites include sesame shrimp/chicken/tofu, sushi, lo mein, fried rice, scallion pancakes, and beef and broccoli. I appreciate the efficiency and thoughtfulness of the staff with take out orders. We were looking for a place in Winchester for a celebration dinner. We found China Sky on Yelp, and we decided to try it. We like the ambiance. It has nice decor and background music. Very soothing. We asked for Chinese menu, but they did not really have one. We ordered miso soup, hot and sour seafood soup, twice sautéed pork, lamb in two styles. If you are looking for authentic Chinese, it is not the place for you. But the food was very good. All of the food except miso soup were supposed to be spicy, but they were very mild. But you can specify the spiciness. Service was very good. All and all we had a very enjoyable dinner. We recommend this restaurant. read more

Called in an order for pick-up.The restaurant was busy and it took a little longer for them to have the order ready. My adult daughter picked up the order and charged it to my credit card. My family's been loyal, generous customers of China Sky since they took Ciro's place ~10 years ago, and receive a complimentary app or two because of it when dining in or taking out. Prior to my last visit two days ago, I would have given it 5 stars without a doubt. There was nothing at all wrong with the service or food, but I realized their selection of sushi is a LOT less extensive than I remembered it to be. I was surprised and a bit disappointed =( they have all of the staples, but their specialty roll selection is lacking. After 10 years with the same menu, I think it's time to add a few. That being said, the quality and taste of their sushi, Chinese pickies, tempura, and long list of cooked entrees is extremely well executed and flavorful. Definitely trumps all other Chinese/Japanese joints around. They also serve delicious (and free) tea for the table when you're dining in. And they sport one of the only full bars in Winchester. Eva, the manager, is such a sweetheart! I look forward to her warm welcome whenever I come in, which consists of her smiling wide and yelling "SUSHI GIRL!" followed by a huge hug. Okay so this place is very AMERICANIZED...it's winchester what do you expect? So I came there on a saturday night with the bf, we were seated right away even though it seemed fairly busy. After we sat down the waitress INSTANTLY asked us what we wanted to drink. I asked for a few more minutes, and she stepped to the side and stared at us waiting for me to decide....not cool. I'm a picky person...sorry I had a hard time deciding what I wanted and their menu was pretty extensive with sushi and chinese food, so I was having a hard time. The waitress was not having it. I think she came over 3-4 times to ask me if I was ready to order. NO when I put the menu down, I'll be ready to order! I used to be a waitress, it's not brain surgery lady. So we...err I..decided to get crab rangoons, beef fried rice, and a sushi roll...I can't remember the name now. Anyways crab rangoons were folded into like a flower/star shaped as opposed to the regular triangles. I've seen it folded like this before but I don't prefer it. It's like all the cheese is on one side and the wrapper on the other.....it's pretty though? The beef fried rice was pretty standard. Pretty good with fresh vegetables not frozen medleys. The sushi was pretty good. I think it was the best part of the meal. With that said it still was pretty standard, a little pricey I believed it was about 13 dollars for that one roll. Overall it was your typical americanized chinese restaurant that added sushi to expand their horizons. Good standard food, however service was HORRIBLE. After starting my Friday morning/afternoon off with ice cream (whoops) at Scoopalooza Creamery, I decided to get some 'actual' food for brunch. Having sweets on an empty stomach wasn't the best idea!! I was in the mood for something savory and piping hot. I ordered the garlic chicken with a side of vegetable fried rice and my boyfriend had the crispy sesame chicken with a side of vegetable fried rice for takeout. Because we ordered from their lunch special menu, our meals also came with a side of soup, so we chose the hot-and-sour one. My meal was pretty underwhelming. There was barely any flavor in the chicken- I couldn't taste the garlic at all! The sauce that came with the chicken didn't do much to the dish's entirety, either- it wasn't savory or remotely salty. The fried rice was also pretty bland and wasn't too enjoyable even when I added the soy sauce packet that was included in our take-out bag. Overall, I wasn't very pleased with my meal, but it was worth the try! ** (2.5/5 stars) [4/15/17 UPDATE]: I came here for a second time for an early Easter lunch. We had a table of about sixteen people, so we were seated at one side of the room and everyone had enough space. It didn't feel cluttered at all. The waitresses were accommodating, super kind, and attentive despite our large table. I had the vegetable udon, which was quite flavorful and had an abundance of fresh vegetables. The noodles were drenched in sauce and cooked just right. This was my first time actually dining in the restaurant and I appreciated its vibrant and intricate decor. I'm not a big pro in Chinese food, but once a week I visit places with Chinese cuisine. China Sky goes to my favorite collection. If be honest, I was very surprised when I saw the plate of Chicken Cashew Nut. Firstly, the dish was served very nice. I wished to make a picture but I pounced on the "chicken" since I was very hungry. The place itself is very nice. For "$$" prices of google maps this is the best one I've ever been. It's hard to find a good quality Chinese restaurant for simple "American" favorites, and China Sky is definitely a good option! We really love their beef and broccoli, chicken and cashew nuts, and green beans. Overall, if you ask them to make it less salty they oblige. The only fault we found is that we don't love their Japanese cuisine, but sometimes that happens with pan-asian dining. Definitely check them out and they have fast delivery as well! read more

I live in The neighboring town to Winchester and I must say, it is so far the best pick up Chinese food I have eaten in the US. The food was very fresh and the portions were generous. This is a classy Chinese restaurant with very friendly service from the beginning to the end and clearly loves big loud families enthusiastically. You're treated and welcomed like a person not a nuisance . The appetizers are extensive loved the cold noodles and a combination is $20 which is very reasonable . The crispy orange chicken referenced in the Boston globe was really tasty and included oranges . The beef dishes with snowpeas were praised as well. Theres a lunch special menu with dishes around $12 and no more very reasonable including Vegetarian. The Sky is good for a local place. What I like best is that it is clean -seems most any 'rant you go to has food and detritus remnants on tables, etc . But The Sky is VERY clean. The food is good and their sushi is fine. My only beef is the lack of beef. Very skimpy on the meat. This bums me out. Also, the menu is very tame -no pig intestines, blood cake, cow aorta, or frogs, etc., unfortunately, a far cry from Chinatown places. On the plus side, the plating is nice, e.g., radish flowers and attractive sundries, etc. Fresh flowers on the linen-clad tables. This is a restaurant in my town, been there many times and it is OK, not great. Tonight ordered takeout, paid with my info and my husband went to pick up. He came home very annoyed, says he will never go back. The woman at the desk gave him attitude because he didn't know my cell # (it's in his phone which he didn't have with him). Meh. The food was not awesome. The fried selections were underdone with sad & wan looking crab rangoon that were white on the bottom and only the crimped tops were golden. The same was true for the spring rolls. Even the lo mein lacked punch (as well as protein) and needed to be hit with some soy sauce to make it right. Hot & sour soup wasn't sour at all with the heat coming from chili pepper flakes instead of the traditional white pepper. Both white pepper and black vinegar lose its effect with heating up the soup, so a sprinkle and splash would be in order à la minute. Food was excellent. We ordered a pick up for New Year's Eve and were extremely pleased with the service and delicious house fried rice, lo mein, vegetable spring rolls and teriyaki beef. The only suggestion I have for next New Year's Eve is an attendant outside to organize the line of customers for pick up. It was a bit confusing. They sent out text messages with time to pick up and a number, but we expected someone from the restaurant to be outside so that we would be informed. Some of the people in line were rude and yelling at other customers to get in the back of the line. That was unnecessary. But it will not deter us to go another time, probably not New Years Eve again unless it's better organized. read more

I closed out the place last night at the sushi bar. Ate last call and ordered a beer, an app of hamachi pastrami, which came with purple and neon green pickles. The first time I ate Japanese pickles was on my 21st birthday,which was also Boy's Day in Japan , but I digress. Sushi sampler of 6 pieces expertly prepared, a vegetable dish if white asparagus , cauliflower, peppers , green peas in a most delicious broth. It was superb . I had a tofu Chocolate square on a plate dusted with what looked like a sloppy line of coke but was powdered sugar . Bill came to $99 pre tip. Hidden gem I have found staying north of Boston for work. Over the last few weeks I have probably ordered five meals, all different. The food always arrived early, and it's safe to say the hottest (temperature) delivery I have ever eaten. Which is great. Food is always very good. Very tasty! China sky is a Chinese food restaurant Tucktaway in Winchester Center. From the outside it doesn't look that really interesting but when you walk in it is very elegant and well-kept. I have never spent much time in the dining room other than waiting for my takeout but from what I have seen from the lobby it is very nice. China sky was introduced to me by a friend who went there for specifically the Szechuan chicken a while back. I had order it to go and took it home. It was very delicious including peppers onions and other vegetables with chicken stirfry in a spicy sweet Szechuan sauce. It was for sure a sauce to crave. I had ordered it a few times but at some point they took it off the menu and only serve to Szechuan beef. Sometimes they would still make the sash one chicken for you but other times they would not. Suppose it depended on who is taking order and who is in the kitchen that day. Overall I really enjoyed this place while I lived in the area. When I'm around I would definitely go back. read more

The teriyaki beef was really good. The boneless pork ribs were good. The crab rangoon was good. Period. The egg drop soup could have been a bit thinner and more chicken flavor but not bad. The rest of my meal was uneventful and lacked flavor. That's the thing that I missed after spending nearly $100 on take out. I wouldn't say it was bad but it wasn't great either. It needs some salt and seasonings. Sweet chili sauce couldn't help the flavorless offer I got. I gave this 3 stars, one for each of the things I did enjoy. Such a good opportunity to shine with some, any, flavor gone undone! This is my last order because Grub Hub charges a higher price for the menu items than the restaurant does by a crazy amount, then charge a service fee on top. The driver never let me know he dropped off the food so it sat on my porch for I don't know how long until my mailman mentioned the bag to me. I said I didn't want drop and run. Pork fried rice tasted like smoke. It was really really bad as if everything was burnt.

While some of the China Sky dishes are very good, others are not. We have been eating in, or taking out, from this restaurant for a number of years. Most of the time, we just do takeout. So, when I go in to pick up the order, every single time the young ladies at the front desk are exceptionally cold and indifferent. No 'hello.' No 'thank you.' No, smile. Nothing. They just act like emotionless robots, process the order quickly and get you the hell over with. This has happened so many times that we now expect this. The manager or owner should have a conversation with these front desk women and get them straightened out about polite customer service and what is expected in that role. read more

Came to this restaurant for a baptism celebration. The restaurant has a great area set up for functions. There was enough room that the space did not feel tight and was perfect for a large group. They provided so many delicious appetizer that I was full before the meal was served. The food was very good and I would definitely come here again. This restaurant was exquisite. Now exquisite is usually not a word widely applied to Chinese food. Chinese food, at least in America, is just yummy and greasy. This place however had excellent service, good decor and a delightful menu. Unusual for chinese, they had a few lamb dishes, and lamb done two ways was perfect. Lamb mixes well with the veggies and sauces. Their seafood hot pot was also amazing, with huge suculent shrimp and chunks of lobster meat. Their chilli sauce was not just spicey but also fragrent and thick. The place also serves sushi although we did not have any. China Sky puts many chinatown eateries to shame. read more

Don't let the typical Chinese restaurant name fool you. China Sky is anything but typical it is probably one of the nicest and cleanest Chinese restaurant I've been to. A clean restaurant starts off with 5-stars in my book! Before jumping to the deductions I want to point out the staff is very friendly and helpful from the moment you walk when you are greeted by the hostess to your last rice morsel. The tables are covered with white table cloths and it is probably considered fancy for a Chinese restaurant. Prices are on the more expensive side but it is well worth it. During our last meal there we had: the Hunan Beef, pan-fried beef with a flavorful brown sauce and veggies, Nabe Yaki Udon (did I mention they have Japanese fare as well?), and Hot and Sour soup. Everything was very tasty, the Nabe Yaki Udon was bland but I didn't mind it since that is how I like my soup. I would recommend their Chinese food over the Japanese food since I don't think Japanese food is their specialty. Now the only reason why China Sky did not get 5 stars is because they serve American-Chinese food. It's hard to find authentic Chinese food outside of Chinatown. We ordered take out from China Sky during a holiday visit to my in-laws. The food was very good, but I was shell-shocked by the price. I was excited to see they had both Japanese and Chinese food on the menu since my family loves Chinese but won't set foot in a Japanese restaurant with me. So I ordered some sushi. I didn't think the sushi prices seemed that bad on the menu. Other sushi places I've been would charge $13 for a LARGE roll that was almost a meal in itself and $6 for a smaller roll, so I was okay with that at face value. I was very disappointed when I opened my dinner to find how small the rolls were. The maguro (tuna) was okay, but not great. I did NOT get my money's worth. Since I didn't get a meal out of the sushi, I had some of the Chinese food we ordered, too, and it was pretty good. My family had General Tso's Chicken and Crunchy Sesame Chicken and dumplings. In the end, I would eat here again because the food was good, but I wouldn't bother ordering any sushi. I'd just stick with the Chinese food family style. read more

I got some pretty tasty takeout from China Sky the other night, I called it in and it was ready in less than 20 minutes. This will be my go to Chinese joint in Winchester. The quality of the food is great and I would describe the restaurant as high end, as far as Chinese restaurants go anyway. It has to be tough to be a chef trained in one of the finest cuisines of the world and have to cater to the tastes of hordes of lo fan. I felt this was the case for the chef at China Sky. China Sky came highly recommended by a number of my colleagues. I went looking for exotic and found typical American Chinese. What we had was good but not exceptional. Only been here twice. Once when my brother got married and once last week. Both times were yummy. I'm a huge sushi fan but was planning on getting some chinese takeout. While scanning the menu I bump into two friends of mine and they invite over to sit with them at the sushi part of the restaurant. How could I say no? Spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll and my favorite white tuna sashimi. All yummy! Decor is very classic looking. Staff are friendly and efficient. Front door area where you pick up your take out or wait to be seated is organized chaos. My only piece of advice is don't go there looking like a slob. There's no dress code but patrons seem to all shop the haute coutures. read more
