Great chinese food. Got the Sa Cha chicken. Was delicious. Not overly spicy, perfectly cooked and not overly greasy. One of the better Chinese joints in West Haven. Highly recommend! read more

Overe the years I've had many delicious meals from China Pavilion, but Friday, March 19, 2021 was certainly not one of them. THe soups were okay, but all the main dishes were gloppy with thick cornstarch, especially the vegetables which were also over-cooked and not well-seasoned. Two items had definite hot pepper added. when they were not indicated to be spicy. Really disappointing read more

We ordered crispy pork and chicken with garlic sauce. Crispy pork was disappointing. I felt like I was eating fats. Seems like they covered the fats with flour and then fried it. The broccoli though was perfectly cooked! Chicken with garlic sauce was OK. But still missing good flavors. read more

I've eaten there several times. We enjoyed several dishes like there tangerine beef and chicken I also loved there beef chow fun. The only issue I have is there fried dumplings which at times taste old and not fresh. Otherwise we love this place. read more

I have to say that after hearing people rave about this place for years I finally tried it and am very disappointed. I had wonton soup and chicken fried rice. They are very stingy with the wontons in the soup and they are made of 70% pasta with a very small amount of meat. The fried rice was quite bland and flavorless. I don't understand how this place got such a great reputation. The food is also quite pricey compared to other Chinese restaurants. I don't see the attraction here. read more

China Pavilion is one of my favorite spots & The customer service is always great & the food is always great to with a nice chill atmosphere I have no complaints about this place just wanted to write a good review for a awesome place to go for lunch or dinner I recommend anyone to go here because I never had a bad experience I love to support good businesses That's why am writing this review They are highly recommend it read more

I've been going to China Pavilion for a long time and have always thought it was good. I was so happy to see they recently started offering a separate vegan menu with three options: black pepper steak, General Tso's, and chicken & broccoli. I opted for the vegan chicken & broccoli and really enjoyed it - even though it was a bit salty. I'll be visiting more often if they keep vegan options! read more

Love it!!! If you are looking for a nice Dim Sum or authentic Peruvian chifa, this is the place to go. Prices are very reasonable and the food is amazing. Waiting time is usually long during lunch/dinner hours but totally worthy. read more

LOVE China Pavilion, I wish they delivered but that's my only complaint lol. their food is good quality, never gross or weird pieces of meat like some other places. I've been going here with my family for more than 20 yrs. I highly recommend it. read more

Very disappointed to see that the quality of the food has really declined..we drove all the way out from Wallingford recently to discover that they only did take out orders on monday.we decided to order anyway and eat in the car. I wish we had turned around and went home. The food couldn't have been a bigger disappointment. My husbands egg roll was literally dripping in grease. The sesame chicken that I have always loved in the past has been changed and is no longer even close to the way it used to be..it's now very thin strips of overbreaded, dried out chicken in a very sweet and nasty tasting sauce. The fried rice lacked any flavor..all in all my spring roll was decent and my husband said his general Taos chicken was.ok.. Not worth the drive..we won't be going back again..must have changed owners or chefs I am assuming. But it was really bad. read more

I enjoy the food here, it's cooked to order, tasty and not greasy. We ate here this past friday night and had plenty of leftovers to take home. I ordered beef with broccoli and ate less than half of it. Make sure you check your leftover bag before you leave, the beef with broccoli was not in it. Now that I want to eat it tonight and I can't! read more

Been here a bunch of times. Haven't been for a while. Not sure what happened but foot and service was horrible. I don't usually write bad reviews. But I don't want anyone to waste their time going here. It's sad. Their food was amazing. When we explained to the server that we were extremely unhappy with the food. He walked away and came back with the check. No apologies. Nothing. Service was extremely slow. read more

The food served here is probably the best Chinese food I've ever had. I was on a long drive back to NJ from RI and my copilot and I needed some food. We stopped in and were beyond impressed. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, very clean and quiet. The service was efficient but not talkative or especially friendly. I don't count this as a negative. We were happy with the service but there was no typical niceties like "Hello, I'm so-and-so, I'll be serving you" or "How is everything? Do you need anything?" The food was spectacular. We ordered the cold sesame noodles and were pleasantly surprised at their version. Usually the sesame noodles I'm accustomed to are soft, mushy noodles with a heavy, thick nutty sauce on top. The sesame noodle here were much more refined. The noodles were more thin and had a delectable chewy texture. The sauce was very thin and there were red pepper flakes throughout. It tasted like sesame oil and spice. Very delicious. While the chicken dish we ordered was good the highlight was the General Tso's Tofu. Again, very different from what I am accustomed to. The tofu itself was firm yet chewy. The sauce was a magical mixture of sweet, sour and spice. There was a subtle garlic flavor and plenty of green onion. I consider myself a fan of General Tso's Tofu dishes because it's what I order at every Chinese food restaurant I go to, so I say with confidence, this is the best General Tso's Tofu I ever had the joy to eat. I believe it would leave even a meat-eater wanting nothing more. Prices were on the higher end but reasonable, especially when considering the quality of food. The chicken dish was around $14 and the tofu dish was around $12. If you live in the area, I'm jealous! Definitely come and eat here! read more

With an uncanny yet talented ability to remember customers names the owners of China pavilion make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. Whether it's take out or dining in, you will not regret making the decision to eat at the China Pavion. The cozy restaurant offers all of the Chinese fare you would get from most Chinese restaurants but with class and culinary expertise. This restaurant nails it when it comes to the quality of food and presentation. No dishes full of liquid crap and soggy vegetables that you would get at one of those take-out in places in New haven after a night of drinking. This place is legit, they take great care and pride in their food and it keeps us coming back for more. China pavilion also has a bar area fully stocked and they aren't stingy on their pours when fixing you a drink. If you're in Orange, Ct and you have a craving for some epic Chinese fare you will not be disappointed. They are kid friendly and will accommodate any needs you might have in terms of food modifications. read more

First, let me say I used to LOVE this place! I went at least once a week, with relatives, with friends. The restaurant had a great sit-down ambiance. They offered good dry noodles & dipping sauce, delicious tea. The wonton soup was great. But as the years passed, the quality was hit or miss. We'd stop going for a while when it got so-so, and go back..and it would be better again. Alas, the last time we went...the food was not only way too greasy, but my Peppercorn Chicken had big bone fragments in it. We called & told them about it, but it happened a second time! We could have broken our teeth or choked on the bones. Sadly, the quality has gone way down. read more

Checked it out for lunch with LW on a sunny Wednesday afternoon in the first chapter of our two part China Pavilion vs. China Dynasty New Haven County Chinese Challenge. The rules were simple: one restaurant per day, we order the same thing: scallion pancake appetizer, sweet & sour chicken (for me) , and chicken & broccoli (for LW). Scallion pancakes were fresh, crisp, and pretty good. The sweet & sour chicken comes, uniquely, with the sauce already on it and a distinct flavor. I tried the chicken & broccoli and found it to be quite good and a couple of notches above regular take out. The lunch specials came with choice of soup (which we both rejected), and rice, for which they let me get veggie fried rice (this becomes important later, see China Dynasty review). I really enjoyed the meal for its unique tastes and what I considered to be good meat, though LW disagreed. The subsequent day's meal at China Dynasty, I thought, was inferior. We were out on the post road, hungry, and I had a craving for Chinese, so we stopped in the China Pavilion for a quick meal. This place was awesome! I loved that their dishes weren't heavy in sugary sauces (like so many other Chinese restaurants). There's nothing worse than ordering a spicy dish and getting a super syrupy, sugary loaded on sauce instead. I was pleasantly surprised to find this wasn't the case! I would give five stars, but I thought the egg drop soup lacked something. Although, it wasn't super salty, which I thought was nice for a change. I also had the prawn in black bean sauce, and my boyfriend had hunan prawn and chicken. Both dishes were fantastic, but Steve's was particularly tasty!!! Service was fast and attentive, no gripes there. The tea was good tea, a nice black tea and not too caffeinated. OH, also, although we didn't get a bottle, their bottled wine prices were amazing! Barefoot and Kendell Jackson for $13 - $16 (unheard of in a restaurant anymore). I highly recommend this place, especially if your tired of sugary substitutes. read more

We loved this place. Plenty of parking and more or less traditional Cantonese cuisine as well as Chinese American. The general Tsos was made with real chicken breast lightly dipped in cornstarch and then fried with sauce added - juicy and meaty. It was a large dish enough for 2 but we're gluttons. The honey walnut prawns - omg they make it in CT- while not exactly flushing, NYC quality was pretty close. My toddler really enjoyed her beef lomein and so did we! This place is great for a Cantonese spin on Chinese food. Totally would come and dine in as well as take Updates: Ate here again recently but tried different dishes- sesame chicken were tiny strips of chicken instead of chunk white meat. It was overly fried and dry. Sauce was similar to general Tsos (supposed to be sweeter). This would've been better if it was chink white meat with a sweeter sauce. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this dish at all. Also ordered pepper steak - more like green peppers and onions with stir fried flank steak. It was only ok and pricy for what it turned out to be. Again, I would not order this. read more

Please do not come here if you want Chinese food, honestly the worst Chinese food I've had, and the soup was truly disgusting. Really disappointed in this place. read more

We have been going to China Pavilion for 20 years and have always had great food and good service. Our experience tonight, however, makes it almost certain that it will be another 20 years till we go back. Because it was New Year's Eve, a banner in front of the restaurant recommended reservations, which I made for four of us two weeks ago. At 6:00 we arrived and were seated immediately. That was the last thing they did in a timely manner. Ten minutes later, water and a small plate of noodles were brought to the table. At 15 minutes, when no one had yet come to take our drink order, we spotted a waiter scanning the room and waved our hands frantically till he came over. He was not assigned to our table but took our drink order, as well as appetizers and entrees. About 5 minutes later, we got our drinks and two of us got our soups. Our other appetizer was not delivered. An hour passed with no one coming to refill the noodle dish, no sign of our waiter, and no appetizer or entrees. Two in our party were expecting guests at 8:30 so we signaled a different waiter (ours had disappeared) and told him that when he brought the food, he should also bring take-out boxes -- and that we expected a discount on our meal after having waited an hour and 15 minutes. He and the owner conferred across the room, then they too disappeared. The original waiter came over and told us in a rude way, "Well, everyone else has been waiting too .. and it might be another hour." At that, we got up and walked out, making sure to warn the people who had just been seated at the next table that they should leave now while they still had the chance. Since we realize New Year's Eve is a busy night, so should they! They continued accepting orders for takeout even as people dining in were not served. They were obviously not adequately staffed and lacked any customer service skills. They could have had two timed seatings to limit the confusion in the kitchen ... or offered a prix fixe menu with limited offerings for the night. So many options, but so little thought given to any of them. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. read more

I've been coming here for years and the food is CONSISTENTLY wonderful. My favorites are the Peking Duck 2 Course, which they slice table-side. It's amazing, and delicious. The Kung Pao Calamari is also excellent, and the soft shell crab when in season. The sesame prawn is a nice addition for a dish on the sweeter side. Heck, even the broccoli with garlic sauce is good. It's all delicious. Salt and pepper prawns, hot and sour soup without the corn starch goopiness of so many other places. You won't be disappointed here. It's family owned and run, and they treat you right. I laugh to myself when I see people going next door to that "hibachi" buffet monstrosity. Skip that place -- come here. read more

I less than three this place. My Mom works nearby and every time I am visit CT we always end up here. Seriously, I live in MA and people here know my whole life story, thanks to my Mom. Swell. The drinks are strong, the decor is circa 1975, and the food is freaking tremendous. American-Chinese food has never been so fresh and artfully prepared as it is here. Its noticeable that the owners here take pride in their food and make it a point to be a part of the community. The dining room and lounge are both roomy and comfortable. A great place for some dinner, takeout, and friendly service! read more

Now I remember why we went here for Chinese food when I was younger! The place has changed quite a bit since then. My family went for lunch on a Saturday and we all ordered from the lunch special section which included an entree, soup, and fried rice. I was quite impressed with the service and the food itself. The general tso's chicken that my husband ordered was delish (not the nasty soggy kind) it had light batter and was crisp . The shrimp in chili sauce that I ordered was a little too sweet for me but had some heat to it. It wasn't bad but I was wishing I ordered what my mom had- shrimp with snow peas, broccoli and mushrooms..overall it was a pleasant experience, great attentive waitstaff, and yummy food that will make me go back. read more

Their takeout is nothing but disappointing. My mother is new to the area and is trying to find the new spot for Chinese (that's not panda express) and so we stumbled upon this place. Looked promising based of their yelp reviews and overall image. We were very disappointed. The portions were so small and for 2 combos it was over $30.00!!! As for the food itself - the beef and broccoli was pretty good. Definitely above average but the sesame chicken was terrible. No sauce and really over cooked. Overall, I will not be returning to this restaurant and my search for the perfect Milford Chinese Food hot spot will still need to take place. Oh well, Panda Express here I come. read more

I have ordered before and it was delicious. Last night quite a disappointment. The Dynasty Platter was greasy and cold. Crispy ribs had bone shards, were bitter and honestly inedible. We first tried China Pavilion about 10 years ago because of the incredible annual Zagat ratings... and were pleasantly surprised. We've loved every meal! The chicken & broccoli is my favorite! The chicken is tender the broccoli fresh and the sauce is very light, savory. My husband is in love with the kung pao chicken... again really tender chicken, fresh, tiny pieces of celery and peanuts. The pork egg rolls, spring rolls, wonton soup, scallion pancakes, General Tso's chicken, orange chicken, pork fried rice, pork ribs and beef % broccoli all have our two thumbs up! The dining room was recently remodeled and expanded and the Asian décor is inviting and comfortable but we mostly order take out. The only drawback to their delivery is a $3.00 fuel charge but considering gas prices and manpower it's worth it! Our food is quickly delivered HOT and with a smile. The wait staff has ALWAYS been attentive and helpful. Annie, the owner, pays careful attention to EVERY customer and EVERY order. She works hard and never forgets a face! It was a happy surprise when we walked in the third time and she asked us how we were, by name! Not bad considering we were only ordering take out up until that point! :) I can't say enough positive things about the China Pavilion and their scrumptious food. The Zagat ratings don't lie, this is worth the drive from anywhere! read more
