This place was me and my family's go to when we wanted some good Chinese food. We went earlier today as we have not been there in a while and found out that this location is under new ownership with a whole new restaurant. The old couple that ran it for years have always been great to me and my family, great customer service, always giving us big portions and giving my kids free egg rolls cause we spend alot, and I was sad to hear that they closed their restaurant. A true hidden gem in the bay area. They been there since my wife went to San Leandro high school in the back in the late 90s. And we are in our late 30s early 40s now. Last time I saw them I was worried they might close down because the 7-11 next door closed down. They looked like they were ready to retire. Which is good cause they deserve to rest. This is one of those restaurants that's either really good or really bad. Also because of the steam tables you are at the mercy of what time something was made. It is 12:57 pm and I just ordered and started eating in my car since I work nearby. I think everything I have is quite delicious. I ordered fried rice, red bbq chicken, beef and broccoli, and an Arizona tea for $10.45 I frequent American Chinese food and I am delightfully surprised by the freshness and flavors I received. I was living in San Leandro for over 2 years and never gave this spot a chance until the last month of my transition back to my 2nd home city. I thought, I'm too lazy to drive to another Chinese cuisine spot, and not in the mood to spending a lot on deliver and nor was I patient enough for it to arrive so I decided to grab something real quick. EXTERIOR I think it used to be an old Tacobell spot (as the exterior reminds me of one next to my high school); light yellow and orange in colors. It definitely can use a fixer-upper for sure. It shares a parking lot with a 7-Eleven which you know always has sketchy people hanging about there. I hate to say it, it is a bit of an eye sore. INTERIOR The door definitely needs to be replaced as it's always slightly open and feels like if you push or pull on it too hard, you may end up breaking it. The set-up has hard chairs and booths (just like the ones at my old Tacobell!). Also can use an interior designer's help or at least advice on to what to do. SERVICE Not big on smiles, but once you give them a nice hefty tip (at least more then what they averagely receive), they certainly brighten up and becomes super friendly and engaging. FOOD Not a whole lot of options to choose from. They have just about the same amount of option as one would of your restaurant was located at a shopping mall food court. They do have the popular options: - fried rice - white rice - beef & broccoli - sweet & sour pork - orange chicken - egg rolls and others. When it comes to small spots like these, I usually go for the simple and popular food choices anyways so I was happy to see what they have. I took it to-go (as I like to be able to eat like no one is watching). I was pretty surprised on how much food she packs those individual to-go boxes. I thought to myself, if this past the taste test, I am definitely coming back here for more. Sold! I was surprised on how tasty the food was. I honestly forgot what I selected, but given that every time I got something different there, every item was delicious. Chopsticks is located in an old Taco Bell. They have their food choices on a long Steam Table like Panda Express. I like ordering the 2 Item Rice plate Combo- Its Fried Rice and Ill usally get Salt And Pepper Chicken and the Fried Fish . That combo is under $5 . Food is average. read more

China Kitchen Express is a great restaurant. The first time I went there, I did not know if the food was going to be as good as other restaurants. This restaurant has excellent food at a very reasonable price. You get a lot for what you pay for. The menu is great and if there is something you would like to order that is not available, the chef will make it for you. This restaurant blows away Jasmine and many others. It used to be a Taco Bell but now it is a great Chinese American restaurant. The owners are so nice and the food is excellent. If you are on a budget, like me, this is your "go-to" restaurant but don't let the price fool you, the menu items are great. As a food connoisseur, I rate China Kitchen Express five stars. read more

Perhaps the worst Chinese food I've had in my life. I'm serious. So, first, let's start with the presentation; the restaurant is pretty dirty, I'm not going to lie. The floors aren't clean, there are bugs flying around the place, the tables are pretty old and unappealing, slightly rotting too, and the food is just presented there... honestly, perhaps the worst presentation for a Chinese restaurant to be honest; not to mention the kitchen does not look like the most sanitary either; I can only imagine how dirty it is. What about the food? Well, the food is sort of expected from these kinds of places; quick ready to grab Chinese food, up to decent enough quality. I've had the noodles and they're all right, but a bit too greasy to be honest, so I've definitely had better. The rice is actually decent, but still pretty average and not really special. However, the meat is where these places also pretty much live and die, and my oh my, was it disappointing. The shrimp here is just so hard and awful... it was just sooo disgusting. The orange chicken was way, way too sweet, the cashew chicken was pretty bland, but the chicken overall really tasted overbreaded, undercooked, and it didn't even feel like chicken! In addition, the barbecue chicken, while not nearly as awful, tasted rather off; I've definitely had better. I was eating all while I saw a customer complained that he had found a bug inside his food, and requested a refund. That was enough to make me nearly gag out my meal (and I did gag out the chicken, although thankfully I did not throw up all over the place). Not going here again. There are much better restaurants out there. The Hawaiian Barbecue and Popeye's across the street offers much better food anyway. read more

Yeah it's fast food, and i think the quality of food has gone down a little. I've been going here since I was a kid, and this place is conveniently located on a junction of a busy intersection. It may look rundown, but they are cheap, they fill me up, and I have never gotten sick from eating here. I think they have good chicken, and sometimes I go here just to get chow mein to go. They are not outstanding food by any standard, but they do deserve a solid 3/5 stars, no less. Well, if you take into account the dirty place, then maybe. They really need new furniture and to repaint their walls. It's been pretty much the same for over a decade. And I guess the food isn't as good as it used to be. Anyway, it's an easy place to miss, but if you live in the area, then you've been here many times before, got your fix of Chinese fast food, then went on your merry way without thinking twice. read more

Since the business has changed there name and hired a new cooks the food taste like Shit. I returned back to the restaurant and ask for a refund. Most people have their own go-to Chinese restaurant that they can depend on when they get that hankering for fried rice, egg rolls, chow mein, or sweet and sour pork. Since I'm new in town, I needed to find a new place for my own Chinese food cravings, and I think Chopstick Express may just fit that bill. The place itself is very simple and nothing fancy. But, I was highly impressed with the prices and combinations that provided so much food for just one serving. I was a little concerned that such large servings may compromise the flavors, but I was wrong. The fried rice was tasty, the battered sweet and sour pork was crisp and sweet, while the noodles were cooked just right - not too soft, not too firm. All in all, I was impressed with the quality and pricing at Chopstick Express. My only complaint is that there are no labels on the options presented behind the glass. Luckily, the servers are somewhat friendly enough to answer that simple question: "What's this?" I will certainly be returning the next time I have that hankering for Chinese. read more

I usually am a faithful customer, but today I had a bad experience with them that made me change my mind. First of all, they charged me somebody else's food and took really long figuring out the confusion and weren't polite about it, as if it were my fault. They were rude about the situation and on top of that gave me the incorrect milk tea and made it seem like I was the one who ordered it wrong. The sweet red sauce beef was disgusting as well it was pretty much all bread and the meat was very tough. The staff working there was very rude as well and didn't seem to want to help me. So not only is this place conveniently located for me... the wonton soup here is sooo good! And I have had my more than fair share of wonton soup... even homemade wonton soup. They make their own dumplings and they are delicious... I usually order the regular wonton in order to get as many wontons as possible... I have not tried the wor won ton soup. Also highly recommended the peach oolong tea is incredible. I am a creature of habit so these two items are all that I have had. This is a great place to get Chinese American fast-food. Their food is delicious and their prices are affordable. They have a 2 entree plate for 3.99. I would go here any day over Panda Express.
