After a long stretch of terrible, we decided to try again and had had some decent food for a bit. It seems that may be a thing of the past again and Romeo will no longer have reasonably decent Chinese food. Way too greasy!! And tasted of rancid oil. The plain white rice had a gray/beige cast to it, and somehow it too tasted of rancid oil despite it being steamed white rice. The egg foo young had to be pressed between sheets of paper towel to even attempt to eat it, but the moment the temp cooled the only flavor was rancid greasy oil. The EFY gravy had 1/2 " of oil floating on the top. The crispy soup noodles are inedible and the wonton soup too has an unacceptable amount of oil slicked across it. Very unfortunate. read more

While visiting Romeo, my elderly mother in law decided that she was "hungry for Chinese." We did a quick Google search for Chinese food in the area and ended up at China Kingdom. The place didn't look like much, a small storefront-type restaurant. Aged appearance with faded and tired decor inside. Could have used a good floor and wall scrubbing and a fresh coat of interior paint. Service was good. The lady who took our order was patient with elderly mom (who wanted to order just "a very small portion because I don't eat much"). She waited patiently as we explained to mom that they couldn't change the menu, but we would share our orders so she could get what she wanted. The food was surprisingly good. We ordered just standard fried rice, egg rolls, general Tso chicken, and sweet and sour chicken. Everything came out piping hot. The chicken was tender and crispy, rice seasoned well. There was plenty of food and the price was right. So...for take out, this is definitely a place we would order from again. As far as dine in...eh, maybe not so much. The drag and dingy surroundings were a bit off-putting. Clean it up, paint, and add some new decor and it would make a big difference. read more

We have been going to China Kingdom for many, many years. Always had a decent meal at a decent price. This past week, I brought home a carry out, and it was 100% ROTTEN food!!! I was first suspicious by the smell, but when my husband & myself tried it..... it was 100%, ABSOLUTELY ROTTEN! I called the restaurant immediately and let them know about how BAD it was, and not to serve the meat to others. The meat was for sure old & rotten!!!!! I could not return the food that evening for a refund because we were heading out of town, so they said to bring it back to them the next day they were open. I live within walking distance of this little restaurant and it has always been consistently delicious food and very fast service. This is mostly a take-out restaurant as there are only about 4 tables to eat at the restaurant. They offer several combo meals with eggroll and the option of white rice or fried rice. I usually get one of the combo meals, however, there is always plenty of food left over for the next day, Last Sunday a friend and I decided just to split one meal. We got 2 spring rolls and split a quart of Chicken Lo Mein. I asked for a container of the hot sauce on the side since my friend is not really into hot foods. I don't know what is in the hot sauce but it is really delicious and adds a great flavor to just about any meals I have gotten from there. I decided to try China Kingdom again after getting a disappointing meal a couple years ago. Sorry to say they have not improved, if anything they are worse. I ordered Cashew Chicken, medium spicy. There was absolutely no spice, in fact it was downright flavorless. There was very little brown sauce, the vegetables were mushy and the chicken was rubbery. The few cashews in the dish were old and not crunchy. When they first opened, the food was fantastic, but it's horrible now. I wouldn't go back. I wish I could leave a minus star. read more

I've been getting takeout from China Kingdom for over 15 years. I've always liked their food. It's very reasonably priced, you get a ton of it, with more than enough for leftovers. I was a little worried when a friend of mine was over and we decided to get CK, I told him it was good, and he was hopeful....You see....I usually get your dirty chinese food...like Sweet and Sour Chicken, eggrolls...you know...hangover stuff... My friend was hoping for real seafood, not immitation, and goodness...and he liked it...a lot! Yay...win win! Have you ever washed dishes in a sink that didn't have a garbage disposal? You know how you get that buildup of soggy brown food in the strainer? Relies on using number system for ordering - important if you are speaking to the owners rather than their kids who work the counter. I like the food here. It's tasty, not bland. It's reasonable priced, and has good size portions. The restaurant itself is in a block of buildings owned by the local Masonic Temple group. China Kingdom has a few tables, like a diner; good for lunch if you're shopping or if you're taking in a movie at the Romeo Theatre. Mostly China Kingdom is known as having great takeout. We didn't have a great Chinese food takeout until they arrived here. I'm glad to see how busy they are. Definitely, lots of local residents eat here. They also have the good type of almond cookies. I haven't had any almond cookies this good since some were sent to me from Chinatown in San Francisco. This isn't a restaurant for dressing up and going out to dinner. But the food sure could be. One reviewer claimed they've changed owners and the food is bad now. But I don't know of any such changes. And the food is still great. read more

I am pretty sure this is the only Chinese restaurant in Romeo. For years we had Two Dragons which I am pretty sure has been closed for a long time. The food at this place is pretty good - not too salty like most Chinese takeout. Portion sizes were enormous. Egg rolls are cabbage-filled and had something really tasty about them that I couldn't place (but oh, bean-sprout filled egg rolls of my youth, where have you gone?) Service was very fast. We ate in this time and the down side of eating in is that it was really hot in there (no A/C) and they serve you in takeout containers with plastic silverware. In fact I think some or all of our order may have been reheated in those plastic containers which is a little weird. Then again, we didn't have to ask for takeout containers to take home our mountains of leftovers, and they were nice sturdy plastic bowls with lids that you could probably re-use if you were the re-using type. The food was good. My husband said the hot and sour soup was about the best he's tasted, and that's from a large sampling of hot and sour soups over the years. Prices were good, portions were good, peas and carrots in fried rice was not expected or appreciated and there was minimal meat, which we paid for.
