Diner BEWARE- this place is NOT good- food or ambiance! We purchased 5 entrees and ALL of it was overcooked and lacked flavor- especially the fried rice! The spring rolls were raw on the inside and the egg roll was awful tasting. Fried rice redefined bland and the sesame chicken was overcooked. This was our first time here and our last. Customer service was poor as our food was dropped on the table and told to have a good night. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if I could! My husband and father in law stopped by to get some lunch since they were close by and they got a big fat roach in one of their plates. China King Restaurant does not mind if I throw my money away on food that's badly prepared with no care or thought on what is served by them. They are happy to take your money if you don't care too. Giving a 3 because it wasn't the best Chinese but not the worse. I am a fair Yelp reviewer so my review will be what you will experience! The restaurant is a little outdated but clean! Our server was friendly and was attentive to us and got out food fast! The owner was there and was also friendly! The portions were enough but not as much as normal Chinese restaurants. The plate was not overflowing with food but there was enough for a take home box. We ordered Kung POW chicken and pepper steak and hot & sour soup! The plates lacked spices! Kung POW is a spicy dish and this chicken had no POW! All plates lacked the festive punch it normally has! It was fairly priced! I like my Chinese to be normal spicey and to be flavorful! I will not be back but you are welcome to eat here if you don't like flavorful Chinese food. read more

I ordered the chow mein with Jasmine tea. I got vegetables with wonton chips on top and a mug filled with black tea. I ordered a tea pot and got a pot with a green tea bag and a black tea bag. I would rather be told you don't serve jasmine tea than fake it. When we brought the chow main up to the waitress she said the wonton chips were the noodles. When we brought it up with the young man at checkout he called up the manager and she explained to us that "everyone makes it differently and that's how we do it here". I have never had a chow mein that didn't have actual noodles. She made no effort to accommodate us for the dish's failure to meet expectations. Her comment was unecessary, her hospitality was lacking, and we paid for a meal that was not eaten. Additionally, the chicken fried rice my husband had was bland. This is a good place for wonton soup and not much else. Try Wah Kee off blanco instead. read more

This has been my family's favorite Chinese place for well over a decade! All of the dishes are made fresh to order and are delicious! We usually order to go, and now it's even easier! They bring the food out to us! The customer service is top notch and I love that the whole family is involved in the business! My personal favorite is the sesame chicken and my husband loves the Mongolian beef. The sweet and sour chicken is also very good. Great egg drop soup and fried rice as well! Simply don't. I know that it's Bulverde. And you're jonesin for some Chinese food. But here it's only technically in the most clinical sense Chinese food. You will still leave wishing that you would had Chinese food. And you'll be out 20 bucks. One question.... Just moved to Bulverde, Texas in June and discovered this place while searching for Chinese food for my son. He expressly wanted Chinese food on a Saturday night. So, I decided to order two dishes: Crispy Beef and Triple Delight. I drove home (15 minutes) with the orders (much to the delight of my 16 year old son). After serving him a plateful, I could tell he was impressed because he usually makes the "mmmm" sound when he likes a dish. Like my son, I, too, was making that same sound. We laughed! Like others have said, it's a Chinese place in San Antonio. I'm not sure what others are expecting. I usually dine in and the service is always great. I always get the sesame chicken and it has been consistent for the past 6 or so years. For where it is and the price they charge, it's a good place. I am convinced that they live there though. read more

Will never order food from here again. The meat in the house fried rice has tasted rancid the last 2 occasions I have purchased food here. Ordered General Tsao's chicken on one occasion and ended up throwing it away. Ordered chicken and black bean sauce, tasted bad. Fried egg rolls filling tasted rotten. I've had my fair share of Chinese food and this definitely ranks up there on the flavor scale. The rangoons were very good, surprisingly so. The Moo Goo Gai Pan and the General Tsao's were both decent. My complaints are with the portion size and service. I don't eat much, and I left hungry. In a nutshell, below average (at best). I tried the General Tso chicken, the Orange Chicken, Chicken with Black Bean Sauce, fried rice, the Pu Pu Platter and Hot & Sour Soup. ALL dishes lacked flavor. The chicken in each entrée was over cooked and tough. It was difficult to tell the difference between the General Tso and the Orange Chicken, in both taste AND appearance. As far as the Pu Pu Platter, the Teriyaki Beef and BBQ Ribs was also overlooked, tough and bland. The Egg Rolls and Fried Shrimp were heavily breaded. Even the Crab Cheese Rangoon's were tough. IF there was a bright spot with food, it was the Hot & Sour Soup. It was above average compared to similar Chinese restaurants in San Antonio. All in all, poor cuisine for the $46.00. Skip this place. You'll be happier making the trip elsewhere. read more

Flooding conditions in our area today so many restaurants closed & we ended up at the China King to give it another chance. BUT...it was the Worse Thai Basil Chicken I have ever gotten. I had to ask the waiter to make sure I had the right order. Could not taste the basil, there were no peppers & it was extremely bland. If you like onions, they use plenty....meaning less chicken. My husband ordered the Combination Fried Rice & he enjoyed but he rates food by Volume not Quality. I know this place serves it's purpose in an area with limited restaurants but for me, I'm saying ...Bring on new Asia restaurants with the growth in our area. We enjoy this restaurant for several reasons: 1. The service is excellent 2. It is clean 3. Food quality has been consistently good over the last two years. 4. It is family owned & we love supporting a local business. I'm sure it seems the family "lives there" because they work it- by themselves- all day, every day. I have only occasionally seen help other than the owners. I highly doubt they would pass inspection if they actually lived there, so if that is a concern, it shouldn't be. My honey wanted to take us here, even though I voiced misgivings having read past reviews. I've had Chinese cuisine all over the USA; this was the worst. Look up any recipe for sweet 'n sour chicken--this ain't it! It WAS breaded chicken deep fried in rancid oil(?) with a sauce to dip it in. Our side of "fried rice" had the same rancid flavor and I really can't describe it otherwise. I asked for a little pot of tea, u know, like real Chinese places serve, and was served a cup of black tea w/ powdered creamer. Pls don't make me describe the "hot 'n sour soup." read more

I have had Chinese food for over 40 years in many different places. In fact this is my very 1st review of anything but China King earned my attention. I was visiting the area and thought this place looks great because its a very nice looking sit down restaurant, not a fast food joint. But to my surprise the food was bad. It smelled and tasted awful. The shrimp taste like protein powder and the rice was very very short grain that was meant for Mediterranean food. The vegetables were old and the same sauce was used for all dishes, which is absolutely weird! I am so surprised I didn't get sick because I ate a little then through it all away. It was a waste of money. If you ate here prior to Covid and survived you are blessed. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT RETURN HERE! read more

I am so disappointed in this place. First, mgr or owner was reprimanding a waitstaff in front of customers. I'm sure it was humiliating for him. Then the food had to be purchaced from the nearest sams or costco as it had to have been frozen. My daughter enjoyed the crab rangoon, I had an eggroll (never again).
