Maybe needed a little more flavor but nothing too bad. Chicken and broccoli tasted well when mixed with General Taos chicken. Prices weren't too bad and you received a lot of food for the prices. Had the wonton soup and never again! While the broth was good , the wrappers in the wonton tasted like plastic. The dough they use is so cheap, it's gross. Also, it's mostly the dough too and I opened it up and it is packed with mystery meat. I threw it all away . I won't be eating there anymore. China King is my go-to when I want solid Chinese takeout without overthinking it. Food was hot, fresh, and hit exactly how you want Chinese food to hit. This is my favorite Chinese carryout place ever! We have been coming here for years, and I have never had a bad meal yet! I have loved everything I have ever ordered here as well. As a family, we love getting a big variety of food so we can try a little bit of everything and have an abundance of leftovers. They have really great portion sizes! I have also often carried out from here to feed extended family in the past. Today, we had the mei fun with beef. I normally get it with chicken, but I thought I would try something different. I enjoy all of their noodle dishes! I also like the lo mein and the pad thai. Their almond boneless chicken is very tasty! I also really love their mu shu chicken. We had their curry chicken. It was a bit spicy, but we order it a lot. I did not get this today, but hands down they have the most amazing egg foo young! I get the veggie one with tons of fresh broccoli, sooo good!!! We also got the crab rangoon which was crispy and creamy. The chicken teriyaki skewers are some of the best! My husband liked the egg roll. My daughter also likes the spare rib appetizer which is very savory and delicious. Since we are going through a tough time, they have a very unique way to get the food. They built a bank-like carryout system where you go to the entrance and they deliver the food through plexiglass ATM style booth with a drawer where you withdraw the food. We had the hot and sour soup, orange chicken and egg rolls for a take out the other day. The food was OK but nothing out of the ordinary Price was in line with other Chinese takeouts in the area. Relative to Covid19 precautions, give very high marks here where entire counter is behind a plexiglass wall, where food is delivered to you via a plexiglass carousel door and payment is handled via a drop tray in the glass. Definitely above and beyond relative to COVID safety protocols here. Overall decent food at a fair price but dont expect to be wowed here. read more

I thought I would try this place again.. Last attempt a few months ago. it was bad.. Nothing has changed.. in fact, had to downgrade to one star. $16 dinner, the portions are small. This "Pad Thai chicken" had little bits of shaved chicken in what looked like a raman noodle side dish that had only about 4oz worth of chicken. Dish had a weird smell and a sour aftertaste.. (and not a good sour). Food is just overpriced, small portion and flat out Gross here. I wouldn't feed it to my dog it's that bad. Also, it's Late August 2022 and they still have the place all sealed off like it's a biolab (weird).. Note, It has an unfairly skewed social media score because it was bought out a few years ago kept the name and all the previous owner's Positive rating. read more

I honestly thought I'd written a review for this place already, and I thought I'd given them a few stars. And then I felt bad about it, because 1) I don't really like writing follow-up reviews, and 2) I'd hate to take all those stars away. Imagine my surprise when -what luck! - I didn't actually write a review yet, so I can just go with the crap rating that I'd give them today! And believe me, it's a pretty crap rating. Speaking of, I wouldn't even use this place's bathroom, though I don't think I would have earlier, either. It's never been clean, but neither are a lot of eateries in Shanghai so I haven't really held it against them. Now I'm thinking twice. A few months ago I would have given this place a decent enough rating. I liked to come here after a long morning case and indulge in terrible fake-chinese takeout. I think my love for fake-chinese is fairly well documented, and this place more or less hit the spot. So I walk in on Tuesday after a particularly grueling episode up the street and it's almost as cold inside as it is outside. It seems they've turned off the heat to save money. I can see that in the summertime, maybe, I can deal without air conditioning. But when it's 20 degrees out in the middle of January, put on a frickin' heater if you want customers. Now, on the menu, they have lunch specials which I've long thought are pretty great. You get your entree and fried rice and soup for about five bucks. Now, in the window they are advertising a free drink with "all lunches." Sounds great to me! Well, either they fired most of the English-speaking staff or the gentleman at the register wasn't aware of his own menu, because I had to stop him at four different steps to tell him what I wanted. At this point, some kid slips in the door behind me and goes back behind the register, I've seen him there before and is an employee, possibly family. This is important for later. So I finish with my order and stand around waiting for it to be finished. Meanwhile, the kid says something in Chinese to the guy who took my order, and he starts cooking up something. At one point he wipes his nose with his hands. Sure enough, the kid is fixing MY food. No gloves, no washing of hands, nothing. And he tells me that you only get the drink if you don't get the soup. I don't know what language they're using, but on my street, "All Lunches" means "every one that we are serving," and not "at our discretion because we also put snot in our food." You know what else was in my food? Buffalo wing sauce. That's now their idea of "ways to make things spicy." Long story short? Don't go here. Ever. You'll waste your time and your money, maybe even risk your health. There's no wonton worth a tapeworm, and hell if buffalo wing sauce is ever going on my chinese food again. read more

Poor quality food, overpriced, exceptional COVID-19 precautions. Prior to visiting, I read some reviews that stated the quality of the food had gone down hill. Boy, I really should have listened to those reviews. This was the first and last time that I will be visiting China King. I ordered Honey Chicken with white rice. For the portion size received, this dish will range anywhere between $9-12. With tax, the total was ~ $12. The taste was less than ideal. There was more breading than chicken and the consistency of the chicken was mushy. Nothing tasted fresh. The dish was nearly inedible and I ended up throwing half of it out. The one positive to the experience was the COVID precautions that the restaurant takes. The entire front cashier area is behind plexiglass. If paying by credit card, the glass has a cut out for you to insert your card. You pick up your food through a door in the glass. While I applaud their efforts to protect themselves and their customers, the food I ordered was just terrible. read more

To be honest it is fair Chinese /American cuisine. Like some of the past few reviews... Its very warm even as a carryout dish. Its was low on flavor, heavy on breading, and typical sauces / almond gravy that you would expect from any typical Chinese carryout place. The gentleman that answered my call was very nice and pleasant to talk to. I called back since my wife left work early and I asked to have the order rushed so that it would be done when she got there, and they were very nice and said it was no problem. The prices were not correct from the reviews / Web pages that listed their menus. I found what I expected to be $18.00 for dinner portions and the appetizer.... Ended up being nearly $27.00. That however Falls on me for not asking and trusting outside references for prices. I would recommend this if you're looking for typical average Chinese /American cuisine but it's just that typical. read more

Decided to try it since we have lived a mile down the road for a year now. Read the reviews and was skeptical but I didn't want to drive to Pontiac for China Jade. General Tso's chicken is bland with a thick gelatinous sauce. Crab Rangoons had little to no filling. Egg roll was gross and went straight into the garbage. We have gotten carryout on Christmas for the last couple of years from this place. It's been very good. This most recent Christmas, we ended up with one wrong order. My wife's dish had beef instead of shrimp. She ate it and it was good, but it was still wrong. We never complained, but when my mother-in-law went in recently, the people actually remembered that they had given us the wrong food. (They realized it after the fact, and my mother-in-law and wife had gone in together). They offered that my wife could go in and get a free meal at any point. We tried this place a couple times, and each time have been disappointed. My wife ordered sweet & sour chicken (attached photo of what we got) and actually called back to see if they made a mistake. The menu photo looks like what you should get, at least at every Chinese food place we've ever been to. But what we got was dry breaded chicken with a side of sauce and rice. After calling back to see if it was a mistake, they said thats how they've made it for the last 8 years, if we want vegetables and pineapple (like in the photo) we should ask to have it added. I used to frequent China King quite a bit. I haven't ordered from here in over 1.5 years. I ordered carry out on Christmas Eve and was very disappointed in the food and service. I placed my online order at 6:25. It was supposed to be ready at 7:08. I live about 5 minutes away and arrived at 7:05 to find more than a dozen people standing around in the lobby. I stood at the glass but nobody asked if they could help me. An order was ready and they called out a number. Where was my number? What did I use to get my order? After waiting about 30 minutes, I was finally asked if they could help. I explained I had ordered online and didn't have a number. They used my name, which is just fine. They told me it would be about 10 minutes. 25 minutes later my order was ready. I checked it carefully because as I waited, several people had come back into to lobby telling them their order was wrong. Mine was right. However, the food was pretty bad. The Boneless Almond chicken was cold, though the sauce was good, the crab rangoon was stuffed and smashed into a wax paper bag. This came with a large container of sweet and sour, but I don't order sweet and sour from here because I don't like their S&S sauce, but it was better than the past. My fried dumplings were also cold and had obvious freezer burn. I was very disappointed with my wait and the meal. I may wait a while and try again to see if the new ownership will improve things. read more

Um not so good. In all fairness I am from Hawaii so I am spoiled by a plethora of tasty, high-quality Chinese fare. This is neither. We had spring rolls, cashew chicken, beef and pea pods and hot sour soup. None of it was very good at all. We ordered take out and on the positive side everything was piping hot. Always a plus! The guy at the register was pretty nice too. That was really the end of the positives. Spring rolls...tasteless. There is absolutely no reason to consume this caloric waste. What more can I say? Hot sour soup...HOT! Wow! I was not expecting something so spicy but at least the spice gave it some flavor. It was about the only thing with flavor. Cashew chicken...tasteless. No flavor at all. Chicken pieces were small. Very mediocre. Beef with pea pods...tasteless and frustrating! I ordered beef with pea pods and asked if they could make it with chow mein. The answer? No. They serve beef with pea pods. They serve chow mein. They couldn't combine the two and up the price? No, apparently not. I'm not familiar with the area so I really don't know about the local Chinese selection. My suggestion... Select another restaurant. read more

Picked up an order of Szechuan Chicken last night and it was ....it was... I don't know what it was. I've had Szechuan Chicken nearly everywhere and this by far was the most bizarre. There wasn't any vegetables other than one small slice of carrot, one slice of celery, couple mushrooms and a whole bunch of undercooked cabbage, among the chicken. Not the best, but not the worst. I am new to the area and love Chinese food. Honestly, nothing beats Rainbow Chinese in Farmington. I always get sesame chicken or general tso's. They both were just average. But for $10 you get lots of food (for 2 days for me), egg roll and chicken fried rice with actual chicken and peas and carrots. Plus I had a really good fortune from my fortune cookie. I will keep ordering since it's close to me and super fast. It was funny one day the girl said 20-25 min because they were super busy but when I got there, there wasn't one customer inside. It must be carry out only because twice I haven't seen anyone actually eat there. It is a family business so I will still support them. First of all, there aren't many Chinese restaurants in this area of Commerce township. China King seems to have a bit of a monopoly for about a 5 mile radius. That may explain their mediocrity. I've only experienced carry out, but there really isn't much of a dining room to speak of anyhow, just a couple tables shoved next to the wall. The cashier seemed friendly enough, and my order was accurate. The food itself was average quality. We had 4 adults, and ordered 3 meals - almond chicken (dry and tasteless), Szechuan beef with veggies (good spice, flavor; tender veggies but tough beef), and General Tsao chicken (also very good flavor and spice level). We had fried and white rice and both were just fine. The price was a bit high for the quality, about $35 for the 3 entrees and rice. I'll probably try China King again before ruling them out completely. read more

It's nasty.. anyone can go to Gordens gsf or Sysco and buy a bunch of Frozen stuff to make some meals... Outstanding service and tons of flavor! It gets busy at times so try to call in your order before you pick up. The Owners are great to deal with and the food is always fresh. I am reading the other reviews for this restaurant and I find that I need to speak up on behalf of a family restaurant that has been very good to the neighborhood that I LIVE in. China King is not a 5 star dinning experience it is a quick and easy answer for a busy night. The food is on par with almost all of the take out Chinese/ Cantonese/ whatever-ese restaurants in Michigan. The family that owns is friendly and respectful, IF you are. I have never had an argument, wrong order, or SNOT in any of my food and my husband and I eat here several times a month. Matter of fact I just ordered carry out.
