The camp host double booked a spot possibly. A spot next to us had opened after a young gentleman had been sitting on the back of his jet skis at the spot next to us at 4pm. just a car and jet skis nothing else. No tent no food. No nothing!!. once they left, we went to the kiosk and paid for the site next to us nooooooooo problem! campsite was not reserved there was no ticket on the post saying it was reserved and no personal items left from the previous guests(kid and jet skis)...this was also about 4:00 in the afternoon where check out is much earlier. About 10min later a lady came and started argueeing with my husband that they had reserved the site.... but we had paid for the site and they had no ticket to prove it or reservation confirmation. If the guest did have a reservation the host never posted on the post which is not our fault the ticket should have been posted on the post before the new guests arrived. Mind you its 4pm way past check out time!! Arguement insued with this lady anf she insists and WE pay her 36 dollars for the camps mistake! The host never offered to refund. We had a ticket and sh3 had no proof of anything!!!! We handed $36 to a lady who may not have had a reservation and scammed us! could have been the camp host friends since the camp host didn't seem to want to help!

Generators were running until midnight, and there were loud parties with amplified music roaring past midnight as well. If that's your crowd then perhaps this is your spot. It wasn't comfortable for my family with young kids. One good thing is the toilets had toilet paper and the bathroom garbage seemed to be emptied daily. But that's about the only good thing this campground really had. I won't be back to camp here again.

They should REALLY call that out on the website! Otherwise a great trip. One note, sadly the drought has really dried up the lake. absolutely beautiful! This is my first time camping at the Yellowjacket campsite and it did not…read moredisappoint. Hands-down, the best campsite is number 20, which we were lucky enough to secure ahead of time fantastic views with access to the water suitable for paddle boarding and swimming, although the water is quite chilly even in summer. this campsite is dog friendly. there's a beautiful trail that goes all the way around the reservoir. I also saw many people with their fishing poles, and a few other Neighbor campers said there's some really good fishing spots in the area. A great experience and being there with family made it even better.

They have basically eliminated day use facilities at this lake…read more If you go to jones fork day use parking outside the camp lot is filled at 530am on monday with extra cars from campground. If you goto azalea trailhead lot was full as well. I managed to get a space at bike trailhead next to big silver group but cars that cant make it to bassi falls trailhead park there. Also both bike campground had organizations taking up most of the sites 3-5 tents per site with a large mongolian yurt style tent in the center with pine needles and pollen/dust on the roof. There were 4 sites in azalea not being used but those will be the only legal campsites if you did not book 6-8 week in advance at 41 dollars a night. They made everything between loon lake and ice house junction/store a national recreation area which makes camping outside a campground illegal.

There are hot showers (coin operated), clean bathrooms, tent and RV sites, water faucets. Showers are coin operated, bring quarters! $0.50 for 4 minutes, and $0.25 per 2 minutes thereafter. We stayed at 1 of the 2 glamping sites, with a 2 bed/ 4 person tent already set up. All sites have a max capacity of 8 ppl, or 2 cars. Cooking- fire pit. But check the website as some days are "no fire", you can bring a propane stove. Good cell phone reception. Kids and dogs friendly :)

Attention Yelp moderators: This is NOT the same campground as the Peninsula Campground near Rollins…read moreLake. That is a far away, completely unrelated, privately owned campground. This is also NOT the same as Beals Point, which is a DIFFERENT campground over an hour away. This campground is one of three campgrounds owned and operated by Folsom SRA. (The others are Black Miners Bar in Folsom and Beals Point in Granite Bay.) The campground is HUGE, with well over 100 spaces. They normally have a lot more availability than the other Folsom campgrounds. It's about an hour away from Folsom, at the end of Rattlesnake Bar Road, which is at the end of Salmon Falls Road. In order to get to the campground, you have to drive down an 8 mile rustic, narrow road. Be forewarned that some people speed down this road with huge trucks and boats. There are two boat launch ramps at Peninsula. One is in the day use area, and the other is in the campground area, for campers only. Campsites 70-100 are closest to the boat dock and mooring area. Sites 1-40 are quieter and further away from the lake. Before booking a site, I would highly recommend doing a drive through if possible. I stayed at several different sites, and they are all very unique in their own ways. Some are isolated under trees up on a hill, some are crowded near the shore. Some have stone fire pits, and some don't. Oaks Nature Trail runs entirely inside of the campground, and can't be accessed from anywhere else. Darrington Trail runs about 8 miles from the campground to Salmon Falls Road. The staff will usually recommend making reservations online, which you can do if you're at least two days out. Peninsula is great because, if they still have spots available, they'll sell them to you, even if they're blocked out online. When in doubt, check with the staff. It's too hot for me to camp here in summer, but it is a really nice campground, and the fees are not too bad, especially if you have an access pass.

Shealor Lake Trailhead…read more One of the first initiation hikes for this lady in recovery and for that, a little 3 mile hike round trip fit the mold nicely. Easily accessible from Hwy 88 and is a good starter hike for the virgin outdoor walker. There are no facilities at this trail so be prepared although there is a decent sized lot below. The start of the trail meanders through alpine groves as well as large granite rock that dots this landscape in an alien way. Once at the saddle, it is barely under 7600 ft altitude and not very trying on the lungs but the view it affords you is spectacular. From one point you can see Silver Lake and amazing peaks of surrounding wilderness. Once at lake level, it is pretty calm and perfect for picnics and even a dip in the lake if one is so inclined. It was warm facing the sun and the granite rocks are just warm enough to lie on. The trek back is slightly elevated but still comfortable. Just don't veer off the path like I did and wear shorts. The manzanita bushes wreaked havoc on my bare legs in a crisscross pattern.

The picnic tables were clean and in good condition, the parking lot was clean and there were restrooms! One thing that I thought was really thoughtful too, there was a handicap accessible picnic table that had a small gate around it (the accessible table was on a concrete pad that was level with the parking lot so it was slightly above the reservoir). Super thoughtful! Five stars for this picnic location!
