    Beautiful entryway to the location.

Beautiful desolate location. I hope you like the noise of Toads, because they are CONSTANT all night long. Bring earplugs or earphones to drown out the noise. The stars at night are Gorgeous. Especially walking to the bathroom at 3:00 am. Beyond that, It's peaceful and quiet. Clean restroom, and sanitizer available. My only wish; That they could trim or mow down alot of bushes, trees and debris in the walking passages. High brush and dead limbs make it difficult to pass through with children and pets. Otherwise, nice location.

Came to Finnon Lake to pick up discarded fishing line and lures that gets left behind and poses a danger to wildlife. The volunteers and the diner staff at Smoke on the Water were all so friendly. The only negative is the road is scary as hell, very windy with hair-pinned turns, in some places not wide enough for 2 vehicles and has a single vehicle bridge, yikes. Just drive really slow and make sure to stay on your side of road.

    The bathroom is very clean

This is one of the nicest i have ever went camping at! The bathrooms are VERY clean. And theres a tiny little beach area and the lake is HUGE. The review for me would get a 5/5 but the only con is that the store were you buy ice and food at franks diner , is only open on Wednesday threw Friday and not Monday and Tuesday. But this place has a-lot of wildlife! Theres lots of fish and lizards , frogs , grasshoppers and snakes but be careful .

What's not to love about this place! Peaceful, clean and family friendly. Lots of wildlife, including red eared sliders, rainbow trout and a pair of bald eagles! Two beautiful sand beaches and even a disc golf course. Not to mention the amazing Frank's Diner to fill you up with delicious food! I recommend it for all families big and small!

All alone at the campground on a beautiful late October morning.

A small reservoir near Mosquito with camping, catch and release fishing, and disc golf course. The campground is clean with large sites. It's not flat and is not good for the mobility impaired. There are tunneling critters leaving sinking hazards, too. There's an unpaved boat ramp for human powered vehicles but we launched our kayaks right from our lakeside site. Restrooms have flushing toilets, a sink, soap, and paper towels. There is a day use area, too. We saw a bald eagle hunting and were told there's a breeding pair with three eaglets nesting nearby. At the entrance there's Frank's Diner for great food in generous portions. All only about an hour from Sacramento!

We just left today, it's very nice quite place for tent camping. The lake is very clean and nice. Bathrooms are clean and the staff is friendly. Thank you for a nice time!

Can not say enough about this beautiful campground. We had 8 families come up to camp for the weekend. This campground was not only naturally surrounded by the beauty of Mother Nature, spotless and kid friendly atmosphere. We were greeted by our host Becci Calderon, I truly cannot say enough about her eagerness to help and make all of our 8 families camp experience to be the best experience as possible. With her hospitality and nature's beauty, can honestly say all 8 families are looking to make this an annual trip every year. We are all looking forward to another great weekend in our future. Thanks again, Julie Hall

We found a hidden gem. Although I remember being here once before, but didn't realize it until we pulled up to the deck and diner. It was closed when I was there in 2001-'02 time frame. Lots of history here. We came 4th July and it was very quiet, they had their 4th BBQ we got some of it then went to lake to paddle around. Campground was quiet too, few campers but not much. Nice to beat the crowds for holiday. Met some nice locals too. Glad it's only 30 min from our home. Drive Mosquito Rd over the Mosquito bridge, that was fun, a little creeky.

The people who work here, which I believe are volunteers are very very nice!!!! The campground itself was a tad dry and it was very hot the whole 4 days we were there. Extremely dry thin air, alot of algae in the water, overall very nice layout and we even came across a beautiful horse, but would never return in those extreme temperatures, no breeze whatsoever!!!

You can get through both the mine and the blacksmith demo in a little over an hour. Sometimes little attention spans can't handle a full days worth of historical education (myself included). Do not skip the blacksmith demo. The blacksmith we had was a great guy. Very knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. We very much enjoyed chatting with him, and we even bought 3 hand forged pieces he made. I forget his name but he was a totally cool guy. Our first stop was the mine cave that was very cold inside and educational - they give you a phone that plays audio with all of the historical facts while walking through the mine. It's about 15 minutes and we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff member who handles the cave tour was great with getting the 7 of us situated and explaining the rules. We also checked out the Blacksmith and the Stamping Mill - both were also very entertaining and educational. My daughter got to hammer a square nail into a tree truck - cool way to leave a little mark on the place. Gold Bug Park also offers Gem Panning which would did not check out, but we saw a couple of kids having fun while doing it. Entrance to the park is free, but the mine cave tour is $12 per adult, $8 per kid - 5 and under are free! Overall, we had a lot of fun! So many cool artifacts and history to explore. I thought every single staff member was knowledgeable, friendly and did a great job keeping our kids engaged! We would definitely come back to Gold Bug Park next time we are in Placerville!

There are absolutely breathtaking views at the top. I love it! I recommend this hike to everyone. My tip for this hike is to bring lots of water because you will need it. Come early to snag a parking spot because it fills up fast and there is a $10 fee for parking. ENJOY!

We arrived and quickly found a spot that we liked. Camp Host Dave came up and greeted us and helped up check in right at the site which was nice. He was very nice and said he had been at this location just this year. Our car battery was dead and he kindly helped us with a jump. 2. Sites along the lower loop near the water are LARGE and pretty private. Our site (Number 73) was in close proximity to the bathrooms and water spigot and had a private trail to the beach/lake. Site 84 is nice too with a beach view and easy water access. We will probably stay there next time. 3. The lake was great for swimming. Clean, clear water that was not cold. Our entire family (including our dog) swam for hours. Bring a tube to float on! 4. This campground is QUIET. I know it depends on the groups camping but it was very very quiet every night at 8pm. My husband and I felt bad quietly playing our country music because it was that quiet. 5. Bears will come through here. We were sitting by the fire at 11:30 and I saw a giant moving black blob with glowing eyes and we turned our flashlight on and yep.. Bear. Throw your trash away and put your food in your cars! 6. My ONLY gripe was that this campground seems to have a Yellowjacket problem. There were lots everywhere. With that being said, we were there two nights and none of us got stung. Maybe bring a few Yellowjacket traps to hang on the trees around camp. 7. No showers but they are a quick drive up the road at Fashoda. The closest store is Ice House Resort which is about 15 minutes away. We will be back!

Up Wright's Lake road you go until you've reached a top-of-the-world mountain spot called Wright's Lake. There are some hiking trails that extend you further into the nearby mountains, placing you at various lakes beneath these craggy skyscrapers, just west of Pyramid peak. We spent a night at Hemlock Lake, a beautiful little destination spot in this area for hiking and overnight camping. I hurrah this pristine little lake for variety of excellencies: first, the fishing was bountiful, and a respectful fisherperson will find themselves a tasty dinner amongst the wildlife jumping at the water's surface. Second, there is a half-rushing waterfall that cascades from higher-up snowmelt, feeding down into the lake. A short jaunt and slopey climb will catch you some of the prettiest vista-views this side of the Sierras has to offer. Surrounding both the waterfall and lake are gorgeous Jeffrey sugarpines. Put your face close to its rutty bark, and you will want to lick the delicious smell of these trees (especially for a hungry hiker). All this, but don't count on any time to sit and meditate. Half of the exercise I got out of this trip was from slapping and dancing around the mosquitos that inhabit the lush little 8500-foot lake. I won't complain, since it's not my place to judge nature, but I do largely suggest that you bring with you some sort of repellant. We used garlic cloves, which worked surprisingly well. But if nature's comfort is what you're looking for, mosquitos are only a necessary part of this package. I say, take the trip. Even if you don't like the remarkable hike or lake, there's enough camping spots and high-mountain lakes in this area to keep you and your family/friends packing here for for years to come!
