    Sunrise by the river

We planned a large group camp trip to American River Resort and our tween/teen girls ground had a BLAST bonding by the river. Gorgeous sunrise & sunset. Easy access to the river. CLEAN bathrooms and showers. Great tents on the platforms. The cots are not the most comfy, but they worked. I'd definitely recommend this place to other campers looking for a safe and family friendly environment.

Stayed here for 2 days and the experience was amazing. The raft guides were wonderful and the sites were huge. Amazing camp, staff, and rafting.

My boyfriend and I stayed two nights in the platform tent cabins and had such a nice vacation. we were literally a 30 second walk from the river! the cots provided were surprisingly comfy and the deck had a great view of the river. while we could've lounged around the river all day, we had a great time exploring coloma. try to go on a living history day, there are a lot of knowledgeable locals to chat with! also check out Troublemakers beer garden down the road... really fun space to listen to music and sip on some brews.

Nice resort along the American river. Many options for accomodations, from walk-in tent camping or canvas tent structures and cabins along the rivers edge, to tent and Rv hook ups in the hills above. They also have group camping areas near the river. The restrooms are clean and well maintained. There's a catch & release fishing pond and a swimming pool and a swimming hole on the river. They have a convenient store with many basic supplies and snacks and even offer river rafting trips. It does get very popular and loud on the weekends. The groups next to us were quite noisy until late night but we stayed on until Monday and the weekdays are peaceful with beautiful views of the stars at night. I recommend this place especially off season and on weekdays unless you like crowds and loud music.

Excellent tent camping location, spot #14 in front the rapid 'troublemaker'. Choose from cabins, safari tents, or byoTent. Tent sites have hard ground may be difficult to hammer your spikes. Also extremely dusty, no grass. fyi- tent sites do not allow vehicles. Can be far to park. Minimal showers, also a bit of a walk. Nice cold pool available. Campsites have plenty of large trees shade.

Great place for a group camping trip! We went in early May before all the summer campers and it was very quiet.

I hate dry no trees camping spots . This place was green ! In the summer!! Green! Tall trees and nice decent camping spots! All my friends had fun! We did tubbing and kids played in water on the shore/ shallow area. We bbq on the edge on the river . It was a very memorable Fourth of July weekend to remember!! Can't wait to go back! They have hot showers and restrooms!! They do have bugs . No biggie lol Did I mention. They have RV spots , tent spots , and small cabins! Love it!!! Plus I love walking up to their berry muffins fresh and toasty! Their berries are grown there ! They have a small store at the reception area that I find so useful!! To the owner! Thanks for the memories! We will be back soon!

And yes, you will be reminded at every communication that you need to read them. Including a text the day before you check in. If you ask any questions, they'll send it to you like you've seen in other Yelper's reviews. Unlike hotels or AirBnBs, be aware that the rate is for just 2 people. They will charge $50 more per person. We had a little one with us and we were charged $50 more per night. (And yes, they will meet you at check-in to make sure you don't bring extra people!) Our cottage had a queen bed and a sofa bed. Presumably with the extra charge, we would have been given enough towels and linen for 3. Nope. There were towels for 2. And the sofa bed was a bare mattress with a throw without a sheet. We didn't complain since we brought our own linen. Despite being charged a cleaning fee of $50, know that you will still need to haul all of your trash to a trash bin 50 - 100 feet of your cottage. As other Yelpers have mentioned, the place is tired and old: filthy floors, dusty baseboards, tight shower knobs, weak AC, broken porch light... The deck didn't have the nice furniture that was in the photos. Yes, it's river front but getting down to the river is treacherous with many jagged rocks and makeshift steps - exercise caution with kids and elderly. There are no banks, just jagged rocks. We were here in April and it is very, very buggy - lots of mosquitoes and big flying bugs were found in the house every night. Just one screen door. No screens on any of the windows or front door. Beware - they are sticklers with checking out. We left the cottage on time but decided to take a few last minute photos near the river. After paying $2000 for 2 cottages for 3 nights, we were charged - after Danika / Sherry gave us a discount - an additional $25 for not having left the premises on time! We would not recommend this place and certainly will not be visiting again.

Temps were warm enough (2nd week in Sept) at night that we could fall asleep to the sounds of the river. From the moment we stepped onsite for our initial tour, EarthTrek was the immediate and obvious top choice for us. The grounds and facilities are very well kept and it's obvious that the family takes a lot of pride in the way they care for the site. There are so many areas for guests to explore and enjoy - many of our guests raved to us about the beautiful, serene venue. The river provides such a soothing backdrop and the whole site feels very private and secluded. We really loved that our guests could book overnight camping, and we also opted for the breakfast burrito option on Sunday morning, which was a big hit and a really delicious, bountiful spread. Laura, who was our primary point of contact, is a dream to work with - just genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever come across, and so accommodating and responsive (which is exactly what you hope for when you're planning a wedding). Our wedding was very DIY and decor-forward, and Laura was so great about scheduling site visits with us so we could plan and take measurements. I could go on and on, but basically: EarthTrek is incredible and I highly recommend working with them at their beautiful venue.

THEREFORE, I searched ALL the YELP! photos I posted: I found a few photos dated 1/5/2019 as PROOF I did write my reviews for both locations. Disappointingly, ALL my photos AND reviews for James Marshall's Monument and Coloma State Park event MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEARED AFTER 2019! UNHAPPY! Anyway, in June 2022, I attended a Military Funeral I personally arranged at James Marshall's Monument for my deceased Army friend who passed away plus, instrumentally preventing his family from spending an egregious, heinous sum for funeral expenses, i.e., I contacted the Coloma State Park's Head Supervisor Ranger on my friend's family's behalf. Blessed, the Head Park Ranger Supervisor contacted my friend's family a couple days later who only had to pay $75.00 for reserving James Marshall's Monument location for my friend's Military funeral! The location presided a PRIVATE, dignified, Military funeral which involved the US Army Color Guards who fired off a 21-Gun Salute for my deceased Army friend, ample parking provided for all attending the Military Funeral, conveniently located picnic tables for food/libations setup, and more importantly, an easy, short stroll to James Marshall's Monument where the 21-Gun Salute was presided. My friend's family were so grateful to Coloma State Park's Head Park Ranger Supervisor for allowing presiding a Military funeral which was quite a distance from the Coloma State Park's American River parking lot. Reiterating, reserving the James Marshall's Monument location for my friend's family and all who attended my friend's Military Funeral, it was so PRIVATE, awesome, easy, uncomplicated set up due to the picnic tables for the food and libations were conveniently adjacent to the clean restrooms, and overall, a gorgeous, tranquil, serene, appropriate location presiding a somber, dignified, Military funeral. Finally, presiding a Military Funeral at James Marshall's Monument for my friend's family will always be remembered and revered. Best of all, all who attended my friend's Military funeral have ALL returned exploring James Marshall's Monument--again, James Marshall's log cabin, checking the construction updates for both St. John's Catholic Church and Emmanuel Church, Sutter's Mill, gold panning the American River, sent snail mail from the Coloma Post Office, ate at my friend, Noah's Argonaut Cafe, and hiked all the trails, too! BTW: Since I'm 100% Service-Connected Vietnam Veteran possessing a Veteran's Distinguished Park Pass, reserving James Marshall's Monument would be NO FEE for me!
