Bed bugs in boomtown cabin About 30 mins after laying down the first night my arm started itching like crazy. I went to the bathroom to see what was itching and I had multiple bites in my arms. I went back with a flashlight to see the bed and sure enough all over my sleeping daughter and my bed were bed bugs. I mean 5-6 I could see. We left the cabin immediately in the night and I will say the camp was very helpful in finding us a new cabin and it was a much nicer cabin. I had sent them photos of the bugs in the bed so they confirmed with their pest control person they said. They refunded out first night stay (not both since we stayed in another cabin). I think the one night refund doesn't cover the cost of new sleeping bags, pillows, and clothes we could wear home since all the rest had to be thrown away or bagged up for the laundromat. Just check your beds early in the evening. I am so glad I was immediately itchy and we could address it before brining it home because not everyone reacts to their bites. read more

I have a complaint. My family of 3 just recently stayed the campsite. My complaint is, I didn't appreciate being harassed by the staff for being loud cuz the site next to us said so. Instead of asking if we were loud, we were simply blamed for the family leaving beside us. All because the site next to us said so. I feel that the family next to us really didn't want to be there and used us as an excuse to get their money back. I go there about 3-6 times a year (used to). So, I know the rules. Once 10pm hits, we shut the radio and lower our voices (the staff loves showing up to regulate the rules). Had they had asked, I could've told them that the family next to us was bickering with each other all day and we could tell they did not want to stay there. They complained about the rain. They were complaining to each other about whose turn it was to watch their kids all day. Mind you, I know we were a little loud but we brought the noise down and shut the radio off once 10pm hit. Other tenants there agreed that we weren't even loud. I could've also told them that they started packing up by 8pm. So, they had already made up their mind to leave before curfew. Our last couple days being there was horrible for me. All I could think of was how I am a repeat customer and we got blamed for being bad tenants. When all it was is the next door bamboozling them to get a refund. We gave this place another chance despite have issues with them giving away our site last time. I feel that this place was great a couple years ago but had gone down in customer service since then. read more

If you don't like rules you will love it but if you want to sleep it's not for you. We left a day early because we just couldn't do it another night. The first night people were loud until 2:00 in the morning. The 2nd night kids playing Lazer tag shinning lights in our tents past 11. Our grill was covered in bacon pieces. It's very expensive to be left a mess. I saw maybe one employee drive by and one clean the bathrooms for the three days we were there. There are not enough showers and they go from freezing to burning. Toilets are backing up. read more

I've been camping here every summer for about 13 years. As nice a place as it is, it hurts me more and more to give them my hard-earned money. While I get that everything costs more as time goes by, they keep finding new ways to profit from their loyal guests. After being grandfathered in to regular sites for a decade, they forced us all to move a few years ago and blamed it on "leap year." Now they charge a "lock in" fee with every reservation. (Isn't that the whole POINT of a reservation? Jerry Seinfeld would like a word.) You have to provide your own shade in the summer, and their latest stunt is trying to sell you very expensive "weather insurance" for the rainy season. I'm pretty sure there are no 5-star hotels in El Dorado County more expensive than a riverfront cabin at Coloma Resort. Beautiful place, but do we really have to capitalize this much on California's natural bounties? read more

We stayed at a tent site at Coloma Resort and had a great time overall. The site was right by the river but tucked into a quieter, more secluded stretch, not the main part of the river, which made it peaceful and a bit more private. There was a pre-built tent frame that we were able to pitch our tent under, which was spacious and really helpful for shade. The ground was decomposed granite, which made it tough to get tent stakes in. Grass would've been nicer, less dusty and more comfortable, but we made it work. The site had water and electric hookups, which was a nice surprise for a tent spot, and the restrooms were super clean and close by. The river was beautiful. We went swimming, it was shallow but fast-moving, which the kids absolutely loved. We also saw a bunch of people tubing down the river, which looked like a blast. There's a small general store on-site that opens at 9am, basic supplies, drinks, firewood, etc. Super convenient. All in all, a lovely campground. Despite the dusty ground, we'd definitely go back again. read more

I've been coming here since I was a kid, almost every year for the gold rush reenactment. They have done lots of work, some is good, and some, not so much. I guess the old store burned down, which is shame because the new store has none of the charm, and about a tenth of items, as the old store. There used to be way more little nicknacks and kitchy camping gifts and things. They also got rid of the chicken coop and the little old west town. All the old facades of blacksmith shop, banks and hotels are gone. Not a single place to take corny old times photos and that's a shame. On the positive side, they have expanded a lot! Where a ropes course used to be they now have all sorts of lodging options. There are little cabins, glamping tents, bunk houses, a full cottage with deck, tent spots, rv spots and even two covered wagons. It is not cheap, but they have really cleaned up the property and we saw the crew cleaning leafs and taking trash constantly. It's right in Coloma on the American River, so you really can't be the location. It will get cold in the winter, but that doesn't stop people from rafting. read more

We've come with a large group once a year normally stay the three days. Our party does the South Fork one day the North Fork the next day this is a group of friends that own their rafts and they are all certified guides so it is an awesome time. Mike Williams our host he's a contractor extraordinaire out of Santa Rosa, California. Fantastic view and parking on the rivers edge is amazing. Easy in and out and the sites are large. Deer wondering around. Very peaceful. The bridge to get over the river to the resort is fun and interesting. I would recommend this place for a great family outing. read more

We stayed here the last weekend of September and there was NOTHING going on. I think the website should specify when the summer months are since we were under the impression there would be live music, kid activities etc. The shop website is outdated. It currently states they sell firewood. We brought all the food to cook and ended up not being able to since they don't provide or allow firewood on the campsite. We did not bring our own grill thinking we'd be able to use the one onsite. There was dog poop EVERYWHERE which made it hard for kids to play especially around the playground. We watched several owners not pick up after their dogs. We enjoyed our cabin, however, we had to set up our pack n play in the kitchen since we couldn't fit it in the bedroom or loft. Overall, we made the best of our stay but were disappointed in the lack of amenities happening. read more

It was in the upper 90's the whole time we were there. We got a cabin with a bedroom With a double bed, a full out couch also double bed, a full kitchen and lots and lots cabinet space, one bathroom. And most importantly AC in the room and in the livings also ceiling fans!! We enjoyed staying there. They have a pool and you can also go down to the river and cool off! We visit this place annually. The bridge you drive over before turning into the resort is a bit sketchy, but it's no problem if you take it slow. As of June, the resort has been making some nice renovations. The front gate is being upgraded to a nice decorative metal one with cobble stone accents. The old store in front of the gate where you check-in has been demolished. The new store for check-in is the white building to your left after driving through the gate. This resort parallels the American river, which is nice for fishing and other water activities. If the river isn't your thing, they have a swimming pool. The resort gives you a sense of feeling like you're in the Forrest. You can find some slower water to play in down towards the end of the resort where tent camping is located. I took a short video of the area and posted it in the photos. They have RV sites, tent camping and cabin camping. They offer a variety of different size sites and some sites can accommodate rigs up to 45'. If you select a river site, one thing to note is no sewer hookups. There is one dump station locate next to the general store. If you want full hookups, you need to select any site other than the river side. I believe everything is 30amp, so don't forget your adapters for 50amp people. Each site has a metal fire ring and a wooden picnic table. The cabins are nice. If you're looking for something a little different and kind of cool, they offer wagon rentals. The wagons have been converted into overnight rooms. They have also built some nice new cabins towards the top tier. There are two playgrounds. One is next to the swimming pool and the other is near the end by the tent camping. There is a small grass area on the top tier with two small soccer goals. There is also a child size chess set located near the front of the resort in the outdoor recreational area. If you want shaved ice or ice cream, they converted a small airstream into a little parlor. It is called The Silver Bullet. A couple things to note. River sites are probably the most difficult availability. One thing Coloma resort does that is pretty cool is give priority to re-book for the following year. So, if you rent a specific site and like it, you can rent the same site for the same dates the following year. You would need to book immediately at the end of your trip. If you do not, they will open up the spot to the general public. read more

Upon arrival, our cabin was not cleaned. Microwave didn't work, and half of the lights and outlets didn't work. Check expiration dates on everything in the store. We found that all the creamers were expired by more than 6 months. This is not worth the hefty price of the cabin. read more

Amazingly beautiful. Yearly resident for LABOR DAY weekend for the past 10yrs. Every year is a great time! Feel like tenting...pop it up. Glamping...get one of the cabins. We started going to Coloma October 2015 and we have returned every year for a family and friends reunion. The Campground is a favorite of our group. Many of the campsites sit right on the South Fork of the American river, offering a majestic view. On Saturday and Sundays you will enjoy sitting at your campsite, watching people rafting down the river. Some of the group will grab tubes or rafts and spend time on the river. The campground has a wonderful store that offers those items that you might've forgotten (marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers come to mine). We've also bought a lot of items through the years due to the fact that they have a great buyer with interesting gifts and clothing items. Our group often visits the pool, basketball court, a playground for the kids and more... there are areas in front of the campsite where you can sit along the river and put your feet in, also little areas where the kids can play in the water. The Internet seems to work well every time we're there, although we don't use it that much because we're in a large group. If you decide you don't want to cook, you can walk over to the Agonaunt Café, which is farm to fork offering yummy food and there's always a discount coupon in you're welcoming packet. They also offer beautiful cabins on the river that provide everything from bathroom to full kitchen with plenty of sleeping areas. They also offer smaller rustic cabins with a mini fridge, bed and barbecue. Our group has used these and have all been happy with the cabins. Right next to our campsite area is a big green grass area that allows the kids to play baseball, throw frisbees, cornhole etc.. In this area in the morning and evening there's always a family of deer grazing in the grass area. To top it off, the people that work there are always helpful, working hard to make sure that your stay is perfect. I just have to call out one person that is always there working hard with our group making sure everything runs smoothly... that person is Joey Simpson. Setting up any type of group Camping for 30 to 40 people is a hard task and I've been doing it now for 11 years and I just want to say Joey stood right beside me making sure everything has been perfect always going above and beyond. This was the location we chose for our inaugural camping trip in our new camper, and we've returned twice - all within April to August. The grounds are impeccable maintained and absolutely gorgeous. Be sure to snag a riverfront spot - the sunsets will blow your mind. There are staff members everywhere zipping around on golf carts tending to cabins, campsites, and common areas (i.e. bathrooms, pool, social areas). This campground runs like a machine and it shows! Everyone is SUPER FREAKIN FRIENDLY and all of our neighbors we've met each time were lovely and seemed so happy to be there. The ONLY thing we wish we could change is the check-in time. Currently set at 3pm, it seems a bit late considering check-out is at 11am. 5 stars, though. We will always camp @ Coloma Resort! read more

First time campers here. We camped in a tent space right on the river with direct access to a beautiful spot with clean, shallow water to wade and safely swim in. The bank is lined with beautiful blackberry bushes. The resort was very nice, quiet, well maintained and had nice, clean bathrooms. The grassy area has the most relaxing and beautiful view. It was a peaceful spot to drink tea and watch deer walking on the bank. Fun for our kid and our dog, too! read more

Every staff member I ran into or conversed with was super helpful and friendly. The grounds are kept very clean. There are tent and RV sites and the most adorable cabins. Spaces are decently sized and the surroundings are just gorgeous. We booked 3 nights at The Coloma Resort. From the outside, the place looked wonderful! We were impressed with the beautiful grounds, the appearance of the cabins, the Store, and the pool. We were in Cabin J. The cabin was welcoming and the air on. That night, we became aware that the air conditioner was right next to the head of the bed. It was loud! Hard to sleep that night. Next night we tried to open windows. All of the windows were broken and would not stay open. They provided sticks for us to prop them open. The cabin was fairly clean but needed repair in several areas. There was a coffee maker but no coffee provided. The last was when the cockroach was in the bathroom. For $260 a night, we should have had a better place and service. the stay was good but this place was not worth the price. Look elsewhere... read more

Had a beautiful spot right on the river (space 64). Campground was quiet and pretty empty this time of the year. Restrooms and showers were very clean. Cute little store where you check in. Fall colors and listening to the river all night were wonderful. Two dump stations on site. Good security. Easy walk to the State Park across the bridge. Lots of deer, geese and squirrel visitors. We camped here with a large group and had a pretty good time. The cabins are clean and mostly close together. There are even some cabins right on the river, and you can fall asleep to the sound of the babbling brook. There is a large Town Square area where large groups can meet together, i.e. if you stay at a cabin near the Town Square, it will be loud. There are plenty of bathrooms and water fountains around the campsite. Some of the bathrooms are quite nice! It's important to note that the heater does not provide much heat (1 star off). You can tell by feeling the lukewarm heat that comes out of it. We stayed here during a cold weekend unfortunately. I had the heater on all day and it barely got above 60F. The same heater is used in all the cabins. I tried to reach a staff member during my stay to ask this question and it was really hard to reach anyone...hopefully no one has any emergencies! read more

We camped here for the weekend in March . While the area is nice the lack of compassion and safety here is concerning. Saturday night when taking the trash we had an issue with gate being hard to open. Sunday morning it ripped my finger needing medical care. I let the man working there know he asked if I wanted 911, but we chose to drive to prompt care. He re to our campsite while we were packing apologizing and said he fixed the fence. I called and spoke to Steve.... no follow up. I sent a text... no follow up. I sent an email.... no follow up. They got my $$$$ though, and Im out $$$ in medical expenses and time off work. Thankfully, it was just a torn up finger and not more serious. read more

We've camped here 3x and enjoy being right on the river. It's beautiful but in the summer, it is super hot! There's no delta breeze that cools down at night so be prepared to either float the river, stay cool indoors in the AC or be sweating outside. The river spots are electric and water only (no sewer) but they do have a dump on site. If you have a storage container for your sewer, it makes it easier to stay longer on the river. They have a shaved ice trailer and in the summer, it'll take a while to get your order but the portions are large and tasty. They have a very strict policy on visitors (you have to register them 2 days before YOU arrive) and no exceptions are made on that policy, as far as I know. Not sure if you'll be able to enjoy this campground anytime soon as the bridge (one of the only ways in safely with a trailer or rv) was damaged a few weeks ago and is shut down. If you're planning to stay in cabins or tents, enjoy an empty campground while you can! Staff is always great! read more

Perfect even in off season. Perfect grass area for kids or to kick back and watch the peaceful river flow. Walk across the bridge to the cutest historic town where kids can gold pan (with real gold), explode the museum and become a "junior ranger". So much fun and history enjoyed by the whole family from 3 years to 38 years old :) There are a lot of workers that were constantly working to keep resort clean and upgraded. We will definitely will be back here at least once a year! read more

Extremely rude guy at the front with a dark brown long beard refused to allow my six year old to use their restroom. I realize it is private, but his condescending attitude rubbed me the wrong way. I had to cross a long ass bridge with my daughter who almost peed her pants. I live in the area and refuse to give a place like this business. We are polite and clean people. Maybe that guy needs some better people skills. read more

If I was rating just the scenery and backdrop it would get a 5. We stayed in a bunkhouse room as our 5th wheel was too tall to fit under the bridge coming into the park. Our room is like a dated motel 6 that was abandoned. Some outlets and lights did not work. The no pressure shower leaked all over the bathroom. The heater kicked on around 3AM and it set off the smoke alarm. The room smelled musky and like someone smoked in the room. This was definitely not worth $200 per night. read more

Visited with the family for the close access to the incredible mountain bike trails with shuttle service operating in Georgetown. This resort has a great location on the river, If I return to splurge on another family glamping trip, I will reserve South Fork cabin 62 for its incredible location on the river. The kids playgrounds and unique swing, makes this a perfect spot for groups and families. read more

This is a beautiful campground. Largest campsite I've ever had since I began RVing. Perfectly level smooth and more than enough room to camp not crowded in there 3 feet from your neighbor like lots of other places I've been. the driveways are wide enough for cars to pass each other lots and lots of flat ground for the kids to ride their bikes. Several large open grassy areas to play family games. All of it nestled right to a beautiful view of the American River and a short walk across the bridge to Coloma state park, the discovery site of the 1849 Gold Rush. This will probably turn into one of our return trips repeat destinations kind of place just behind Tahoe, and 'Cotillion gardens' near Felton CA. Weather probably means off season camping is the best, spring or fall, I'd imagine it gets really hot here in summer. (Edit) I should mention, they have RV spaces with full hookups, but if you want a river front site, you forgo the sewer. They have tent sites, with giant awnings over them for shade. Enough room for three large tents, and event spaces available for large groups ( probably not during Covid) and cabins with and without A/C. I've not seen a more comprehensive set up in a private park. read more

Highly recommend! This has been our family camping site for the past 15+ years. Great for glamping, camping, RV, and cabins with AC. They have river front sites and group sites (12 people) which my family and friends book. Wifi, bathrooms, electricity, and showers. 10pm noise curfew but we definitely stay up later than that, we just keep the volume down. Dogs allowed but they charge. Next to Trouble Maker rapid on the American River and plenty of access points for tubing or rafting. You can also fish. read more

The drawback is the cabin we stayed, it's filthy, we lift up one of the window blind and there was a ton of dead flies seems like it hadn't been cleaned for awhile. The first nite we stayed one of the cup on the Table fell off by itself. We booked for 2 nites but left early. Left the following evening. Maybe we'll try tent site next time. Maybe. read more
