Camp Lotus is a wonderful family run campground with lots of water activities and picnic areas. Situated beside the winding American Canyon river, this magical spot is located in Placerville. There are quiet little beaches that are kid friendly, where they can wade out safely. We saw lots of fish, kayaks, campers and day trippers. There was lots of laughter and playfulness all around. The surroundings are beautiful and wildlife is abundant. The little store that is there upon check in is stocked with the basics, and if you stay in a cabin, you get free delicious coffee every morning. Luann is there to greet you at check in and at breakfast, she makes hot muffins. My favorite is cornmeal blueberry.

Excellent place to camp! Camp is right on river. Lots of trees and grass. Quieter place on river too - so good for children. Like most campgrounds on the River, the camp spots can be close together but they have done a nice job creating privacy with landscape. (Rocks, trees) Restrooms and showers were clean. Little store and cafe has everything you could need if you forget something. I definitely will be bringing the family back here. Great place.

Best camp accommodations at the river, Camp Lotus!

Best accommodations at the river, no doubt! Campground owner is the best! He opened up his home (campground) for us when we were in desperate need and for that we are forever grateful. God Bless you, Campground owner!

This has always been a great place to spend our hot summer days, sitting on the river relaxing for hours as if time did not exist.

Awesome place to spend a weekend.  Things to know: 1) Very central for rafting.  Many of the rafting companies operate nearby or even in the campground.  2) The owners are very serious about the quiet times and no dog policies.  They patrol and make sure things get quiet at 10pm. 3) Tons of 20-something outdoor enthusiasts.  They can be loud, roudy, and fun if you expect it.  They can also be inconsiderate.  4)  There are lots of families too...know what to expect. 5) lots of camping right on the river - puck your spots carefully and call the office for advice. 6) the store is actually a pretty good deal considering there is nothing nearby.  Don't be afraid to go in and use the deli or get ice.

The first come first serve sites were almost all empty Sunday-Wednesday mid July when I visited. The creek is beautiful and there are lots of good swimming spots. We stayed with friends in a group site and several single nearby sites. There was plenty of space and fallen trees and meadows for our kids to explore! The bad: Idk why but checkout and checkin are both at 2pm, so the sites aren't being cleaned fully between uses. There was a bit of trash at ours and we almost overlapped with the group there before us. The dumpsters were full the entire time we were there. So many yellow jackets and mosquitos, but that's summer in California near the water for you. The worst, there were several bears that made the rounds scavenging every night. We heard them sniffing around tents, banging around coolers, and people generally letting off foghorns and screaming and dogs barking all night long. The campsite is not equipped for bears. The hosts are doing their best, but this is their first summer with this problem, and they aren't receiving support from fish and wildlife. There are no bear boxes at the campsites and very little signage anywhere alerting people to store all their containers and food out of reach at night. People are also not helping. We talked to one family with their food out and said to pack it up as there were bears out the night before. They said they had been coming to the campground for years and never seen a bear. They didn't pack up their food at night and the bears got it all, and they had to leave the next day. The stupidity was astounding. Overall, I would recommend it except for the bears! Hopefully the government steps up to give the host more support before something serious happens!

Great man-made lake that is around 4 miles to go all the way around, half of the path is paved so bike appropriate and good for jogging. When we went a portion of the trail was washed out and closed off but we were able to bypass it anyways with our dogs. Trail can start at the day use park then keeps going through the camp sites till you make the full circle. We regretted not bringing our swimsuits. We reserved campsite #5. All the campsites are all pretty secluded and spacious, but when we passed by #10 we were jealous in that it was the end of the culdesac and walkable to the lake and very secluded. Dog friendly. Vault toilets (no lights, bring headlamps). They have a potable water faucet. I thought the fire pits were well maintained. If you are bringing a RV/Trailer and coming from the South, make sure to take the Forest Hill route (slower route when it shows up on Google Maps). It is much better maintained and spacious. On our way up we went the quicker route and had no trouble as we just had one truck but the trailer in front of couldn't make a sharp turn and was stuck and actually damaged a portion of it, we were able to guide it through thankfully but go at your own risk.

I have been going to this campground for over 50 yrs, of course there weren't hosts back then, but they could be a bit more friendly. Last year, especially, they were great. Would also like to add, the hosts are not running it well. Come up to station after coming back from Kiva. There was 5 trailers deep, they had a cone in the bypass lane. Y??? Every one had to wait. Everyone was very friendly. The campsite is very level and perfect for riding bikes. The bathrooms have real toilets and showers and we're pretty clean. We loved our stay! The only weird thing is that we purchased a parking pass for the parking lot to be closer to the lake since we had kayaks to bring in. The lady that sold us the pass told us that she sells unlimited passes, despite there only being about 20 spots. We asked if that meant that even though we purchase a spot, does that mean there's a possibility of not getting a spot? And she said yes! I don't understand this method of selling parking passes. They should find a better way otherwise they are just taking peoples money for no reason... we bought a pass at 7:30 am and went up to the lot at 9am and we got one of the last spots. That's a big bummer for anyone else buying a pass.

I think it's a museum but it was closed by the time we got there. There is also a lot of grass and picnic benches to sit at. There is a huge dock that people can fish and swim at. There was even a ladder for people to climb back up or down from the dock to swim. I decided to dip my feet in the water off the shore and it was very rocky. Not much sand so definitely wear water shoes. They hold events and weddings here too. We saw on TikTok that there was a railroad that goes into the water. We walked toward it and found it was a boat launch. We saw the track in the evening so the picture wasn't as pretty compared to the videos we saw during the day time. The water is very blue and pretty. Very calming. The best part was as we heading out we saw a black bear roaming around the premises. It was my first time seeing a bear in person so we had to take pictures and videos. We saw the bear was tagged. We heard from some campers that she (assuming the bear is a girl) was walking around the campsite as well. That was the highlight of my day.

It's only about an hour away and just a short drive from Placerville, making it an easy escape into nature. We stayed in South Fork Cabin J, one of the resort's select pet-friendly cabins, and absolutely loved it. It was the perfect blend of camping and glamping with a fully equipped kitchenette including a stovetop, microwave, sink, toaster, dishes, and utensils, plus a private bathroom with a shower, two A/C units, and a spacious living area to relax after a day outside. My Goldendoodle, Bailey, had the best time exploring the property and curiously checking out the river. We loved relaxing in the Adirondack chairs along the water, and there was plenty of open green space along with giant chess, Connect Four, and cornhole. I also appreciated the multiple dog waste stations conveniently located throughout the resort. Check-in was incredibly easy since we arrived after 5 p.m. Our paperwork was waiting on the corkboard at the front gate, and we received our gate code by email the day before arrival. The staff were wonderful, especially Joey, the Reservations Manager, who took the time to recommend local activities, resort amenities, and nearby historical sites. The resort also has beautiful riverfront cabins and campsites, a cute camp store stocked with souvenirs, firewood, and forgotten essentials, plus a unique one-year rebooking policy that lets you reserve the same accommodation for the following year if you fall in love with your stay. We also highly recommend grabbing a coffee and a bite to eat at Argonaut Café. Overall, Coloma Resort is a beautiful, peaceful destination whether you're looking to camp, stay in a cozy cabin, or enjoy a dog-friendly weekend in nature. We can't wait to come back!
