    Lake view from our campsite

My wife and I really liked Fashoda camp grounds. Katie the Camp Host was Super Wonderful!! Not only did she go out of her way to show us where we could could swim, she found us an available campsite next to the lake. We stayed 4 nights We did have 1 bear visit our neighbors camp. Note: Follow all Bear guidelines, store food in bear box! We had the best time! Thank you Katie

Fishing in Union Valley Reservoir. Nice trout there!!!

Stayed here for two nights on a long camping road trip. Did manage to catch some excellent trout. There was also some cool nature sounds from the birds. However, most of the time is was drown out by the very loud adults and screaming children. They were loud until WAY past the supposed 10pm quiet time. The camp hosts seemed more concerned with making sure the showers were only open certain hours. For reference, it's from 8am-10:30am and 4-8pm. Also, it was $3 for three minutes and 25cent for each additional 20 seconds. Most expensive showers on our trip. Also, the vault toilets could gag a maggot. Also, make sure you have everything you need. The nearest market is about 10 winding miles away.

Beautiful site right near water. With bathrooms and showers but bring quarters$3 dollars for 3 min and 20 seconds for every quarter there after. Can't park on site but can unload there and park really close. Golf cart with grounds keeper comes by often... Definitely recommend. Very peaceful during the week.

Love it here. Always a great time and pretty much respectful co- camping site etiquette. I mean we're there to camp, it's outdoors, sounds travel but for the most part people respect the quiet time in the evening. The only issue I had was we picked a spot but too close to the dumpster and had a ton of foot traffic to get to waters edge. I am willing to deal with it though to have a waters edge campsite. Maybe you want more privacy don't camp as close to water. Plenty of wood for building campfires in the area by foot or scouting with car. Our location had a bbq charcoal grill and also a metal fire ring with grate. Don't waste your money or packing space with buying or bringing your own firewood. You will see the camp hosts selling it but wait to buy... unless you absolutely hate grabbing your own wood from nature. I like to come at least once a year for a mother - daughters camping trio and never have been disappointed. Our usual visit is later season end of July, into August or even September. Always great warm days and cooler nights.

With not much reviews available to read & pictures to look at I am glad I went with my gut and chose this campground for memorial day weekend! The grounds were well kept, the bathrooms were always stocked. The sites were well spaced but some were on a slant. I had a large group with 3 families. I booked sites 28 & 29. When we pulled up those sites were huge! Lucky for our group it seemed as if we booked 1 big ass site! Each site had a grill, fire pit & picnic table. The beach area was more like a muddy area but there were still dry spots to bring your lawn chairs and canopy down to set up & sit to watch the kids swim. They had a couple of walking trails & bike trails not too far from the campgrounds. They also had a boat launch and plenty of parking for your truck & boat trailer. Pros: SHOWERS, non rocky beach area (still bring water shoes), hiking trails. Cons: Timed showers, vault toilets, some camp sites on slants and you have to leave your cars in the parking lot but they do have loading zones to unload your gear. Tip: Avoid booking sites 1-6 & 30 they are on slants.

Pros: Beautiful area Clean pretty lake Beach area for swimming Boat launch Bathrooms Showers Large size camp sites Plenty of parking Bear boxes Cons: Filthy vault toilets Bathrooms have no lights Showers only open in morning and evening $3 for 4 mins of water Campsites are close together Campsites aren't very level for tents Can't park your car in your campsite(there's a parking lot above) Water spigots are only for taking water(can't even wash your hands there, brush teeth ect.) This campground isn't bad but for the price you pay per night and for extra cars I would expect more.

We enjoyed how shady this area was, & how large this area was for our group. We were able to place 5 tents in this area, two tents which were large tents for families of 6. Each site has a fire pit, picnic table, is near a rinse of station and bathrooms. There are bathrooms and well maintained but they are the definition of out houses. Bring a flash light at night as there is no lights inside. No showers here. The trail to the water is not to long, id say its half a mile, very do-able if your not bringing much or have little ones. If you dont take the trail, you can always drive 3 minutes down the road to the boat launching area & park there for a day by the reservoir. The parking fee there is $10 in cash. By the water it's very rocky, so do bring good water shoes. There was a bear cub that roamed this campground, the host let is know it has been around since April , and that there hasn't been sight of momma bear since, meaning either momma bear abandoned him or was left behind, he really doesn't want anything to do with human interaction according to them. From our experience he comes around mostly in broad day light and not at night but still kept us on our toes especially because our group had littles ones. This is the only reason I am ranking this campground to be a 4/5 stars.

That said boats in the lake are limited to 5mph and this was not enforced. The noise and waves from (slow, yet motorized) boats, and the music from their speakers compromised our experience of being immersed in nature. 2. DISPERSED CAMPING: we were planning on dispersed camping but absolutely couldn't find a good spot! We tried different dirt roads according to the official description but gave up. 3. CAMPGROUND: we ended up camping at Stumpy Meadows campground. The host, Dexter, was wonderful. However, the campground is sloped and the campsites are not well designed. Also, the campground may be remote but it isn't quiet. While located in a beautiful forest, it is close to the road and we kept hearing noise of fast driving trucks. Bottom line- next time we drive to a remote lake we'll look for a quieter lake with better camping options.

It's actually used by the El Dorado National Forest to actually look out for fire activity. There is even a helipad. Below the hill with the tower and facility building is a parking lot and walking path to the Vista Point. Gorgeous views all around. The path is flat, no elevation gain. The point is about a 1-2 minute walk down the path. The vista point is carved out of the hillside with views and f the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Crystal Basin. The point was dedicated in 2002 by SMUD ( the local energy supply company) and the El Dorado National Forest. Not only can you simply enjoy the beautiful scenery, they have informational placards. Ohh how I luv an information board. I learned that in 1958 SMUD started the local hydroelectric projects in the area. First with Ice House Dam and Reservoir. Then in 1971, they completed the "stairway of power" that is the 40 miles of tunnels, reservoirs, and penstocks that deliver hydroelectric power using the water and snowpack from the western slope Sierra Nevada mountains. Wow! What a work of technology and people strength. To think that's how we get our electricity! The vista point is free, it's free to drive around inside the El Dorado National Forest to look a loo. But if you stay long for a hike, picnic, whatever; then you will need to pay the parking fee. To get to the vista point is not easy. The road is rural, curving, uphill, narrow at points, and riddled with pot holes in various stretches. I don't recommend driving up here is a low profile vehicle. Leave your Maserati at home.
