    Potholes Area Trail
    R B.

Always an enjoyable camping experience, well maintained by EID all the way down to the outhouses and hospitality. Firewood is available along with Tent and Trailer sites. WARNING to hikers trekking to the Potholes, you will not have access via the campground and must park along highway and use trail head across from Silver Lake.

Fishing at Silver Lake. We canoed over to this side.

Ask the Community - Silver Lake East Campground

Is it warm enough for swimming and is there a beach?

During the summer months it's perfect for sitting on the shore and beach, swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking and boating too!

Don they have full rv hook ups?

RVs up to 24ft are permitted but no power is supplied at sites however, generators are allowed

You could rent motor boats and canoes at the Kit Carson Lodge where they also have a general store.

It's a beautiful place, but I had a few issues on my last particular trip. First, all the host staff that I dealt with were VERY rude and accusatory. My space (102) was advertised for a 30' RV plus 1 vehicle. My RV is 24' and barely fit, which didn't allow my vehicle to be parked on the pavement easily. Immediately after unhooking, several staff rushed over and literally screamed at me telling me I needed to park on the pavement or that I'll be fined and towed. I had 2 wheels on torn up dirt, barely off the pavement. I debated them stating what their site advertised, to no avail. So, I ended up getting my truck between two large trees and an inch from my RV to make it work because the main road is a good distance from the campground. I made it work, but the way the staff treated me was disrespectful and rude to say the least. My group had several other brushes with the staff and said the same thing with their encounters. You'd think that being a host at this campground would be a vacation-like work and total utopia but apparently not. My other issue is because the lake is a over a hill a ways from the campground, they only have one small parking lot that they make you pay extra to use, even if you're staying there. We got yelled at for taking 2 minutes to unload our beach stuff. So, a loading zone would be nice. Not sure if I'll be back, there's plenty of other campground where I don't get disrespected.

Great man-made lake that is around 4 miles to go all the way around, half of the path is paved so bike appropriate and good for jogging. When we went a portion of the trail was washed out and closed off but we were able to bypass it anyways with our dogs. Trail can start at the day use park then keeps going through the camp sites till you make the full circle. We regretted not bringing our swimsuits. We reserved campsite #5. All the campsites are all pretty secluded and spacious, but when we passed by #10 we were jealous in that it was the end of the culdesac and walkable to the lake and very secluded. Dog friendly. Vault toilets (no lights, bring headlamps). They have a potable water faucet. I thought the fire pits were well maintained. If you are bringing a RV/Trailer and coming from the South, make sure to take the Forest Hill route (slower route when it shows up on Google Maps). It is much better maintained and spacious. On our way up we went the quicker route and had no trouble as we just had one truck but the trailer in front of couldn't make a sharp turn and was stuck and actually damaged a portion of it, we were able to guide it through thankfully but go at your own risk.

Covid brought hordes of people many disrespecting nature. Ok I get it. You can't go on your cruise. But what I found today devastated me. Yes they took down infested trees a few years ago and left them EVERYWHERE. Yes are familiar path and beach were blocked now. Ok. But when I drove to our campsite today I cried like a baby. I was in shock. The amount of trees that had been cut in the entire campground was shocking. Not a few, not 50% - more. Although I am grateful for our time there and our memories that will never be forsaken - I am sorry new campers will never know it former beauty. Maybe you can see the lake now. May be that was the point. But our slice of paradise is gone.

Its has 2 windows on each side with very old mosquito screen that I filled in with napkins (the gaps). The people that come here have been doing so for years!! Literally 20+ or more so they have a sense of "ownership" and know everyone. It says Stockton Silver lake camp but its not in Stockton at all. They have day activities for the kids and smores and campfire songs at night. The cabins do not have bathrooms. You have to share with everyone else. There is hot water and shower area and toilets. For men, another for women. They also have washer and dryer and soap if you need to wash clothes. Towls are not be dried there only on your own clothes line. Everything is calm and relax and casual. Dinning is at 8am, 12 and 6pm. You can here the bell ring when its chow time. Cafeteria style food with everyone sitting together inside or out. The food is basic and included. If you leave on hike you can request a bag lunch the night before to take with you. They have coffe and water always (coffee is bad) and PB&J if you get hungry in between. There are no locks on anything and everyone is very polite and respectful. The food is always enough, some people would even get seconds but it does tend to be bland and repetitive. The flamingo ladies that have a main cabin seem to be the ones that know everyone. They dont like noise after 9pm but they are up super early. You will know what cabin by the flamingos and they host a margarita night where everyone takes a dish, snack and or tequila to share. They stamp a flamingo on you (its a inside joke). There is a little store for snacks and t-shirts and sweat shirts. We bought some and my kids won 2 t-shirts hunting for wooden bears. That they secretly placed through out the camp (in safe areas). They also have free paddle boards and kayaks. You have to drive to get to them, then walk a bit, but so worth it, its just difficult to find its all most hidden. You unlock everything and lock it back up when you leave. You sign up for that, we had no trouble and did it 2 days of the 3 we were there. To hike you need to have a guide take you. Our friend that invited us has been going there for over 30 years!! She showed us the trail (after about driving 15mins) and a hidden swim hole. It was so gorgeous!!! Patrons donate money to the camp to keep it going and I think thats why they feel its theirs. But it belongs to the city of Stockton. We took up the G section and were too loud the first night it seems. Ooops, next night we tried to keep it down. Hahaha. Anyways I loved the whole thing. ***Tips-take board games and books to read. ***Tons of mosquito repelent and those bug raquets that zap flies. **Take comfy old clothes. Hot during the day very cold at night. Boots for hiking. **Flashlights and coffee machine or contraption. I did and enjoyed my coffee every morning outside my cabin. **Take extension cords!! There was only 1 plug in the wall. This saved us big time and all the cell phone charging. ***There is no reception only wifi in 1 spot so try and let it go. I know its hard!!! **Blankets and linnens or sleeping bags. Snacks and alcohol for the night time when it gets boring. **Portable speakers and camping chairs and table. Enjoy the trees and the scenery. We reserved in December of 2015 to go in July 2016. They are only open 3 months of the year. I think? Everyone was nice and helpfull. Its very family oriented. Major chill vibes every day. :) You reserve on line pay half then the other half. They send you email reminders. Hope this helps.

So, meals were incomplete or cold or required asking for the most basic things. Unlike in prior times, there were no activities offered, but that is less important than health and safety. My biggest issue was the main campfire left burning all day long with no one to attend to it, and with a box of matches sitting on a nearby log. My family and friends are going to look elsewhere for a place to spend a weekend together.

The entire Federal Campground consists of spacious campsites intermingled underneath massive canopies of sugar pines, Cedar of Lebanon, and other deciduous trees: The Cosumes River softly babbles, emitting soothing water sounds in the not too far distance from our campsite which evokes a sense of calmness, peacefulness, and exuding a meditative quality not too many campgrounds comparatively possesses especially, CA State's Folsom Lake's Beals, Peninsula, Donner Lake, and Lake Tahoe Campgrounds which are disappointingly raucous, obnoxiously loud music blaring from portable boom boxes, and egregiously inconsiderate with the utmost abandon, people partying all night.
