The first come first serve sites were almost all empty Sunday-Wednesday mid July when I visited. The creek is beautiful and there are lots of good swimming spots. We stayed with friends in a group site and several single nearby sites. There was plenty of space and fallen trees and meadows for our kids to explore! The bad: Idk why but checkout and checkin are both at 2pm, so the sites aren't being cleaned fully between uses. There was a bit of trash at ours and we almost overlapped with the group there before us. The dumpsters were full the entire time we were there. So many yellow jackets and mosquitos, but that's summer in California near the water for you. The worst, there were several bears that made the rounds scavenging every night. We heard them sniffing around tents, banging around coolers, and people generally letting off foghorns and screaming and dogs barking all night long. The campsite is not equipped for bears. The hosts are doing their best, but this is their first summer with this problem, and they aren't receiving support from fish and wildlife. There are no bear boxes at the campsites and very little signage anywhere alerting people to store all their containers and food out of reach at night. People are also not helping. We talked to one family with their food out and said to pack it up as there were bears out the night before. They said they had been coming to the campground for years and never seen a bear. They didn't pack up their food at night and the bears got it all, and they had to leave the next day. The stupidity was astounding. Overall, I would recommend it except for the bears! Hopefully the government steps up to give the host more support before something serious happens!

All spots are on a steep incline. Majority of park occupied by full time campers living. A lot of marijuana smell and odd people coming out of campers at night. RV spots very narrow so no space to set up unless you do not mind picnic table over other rv spot sewer hose. No service at all so make sure you bring everything you need. The pool was over occupied which is probably due to complete lack of space or sitting for anyone. The putt putt golf was basically dirt. E-bikes very dangerous unless you are a pro because of the steep slopes. No paths for walking. I'd recommend trying anything else first. The drive is pretty long and winding so really not worth the drive.

It's absolutely not a resort. They charge you $19 to dump. They charge you $10 a night for a dog. The camp host doesn't even know his own rules. He told my fellow camper he couldn't turn his generator on until 9 AM and the paperwork says 8 AM. It is so dusty. It's like baby powder coming in and out of your rig they don't water anything down so it just floats through the air. The lady at the check-in is so unfriendly she should find another job the ladies in the restaurant and the bar were wonderful. That was the only good thing about this place. Do not stay there with your rig, but definitely have lunch or dinner.

Also if you are at lot 20/21 you are RIGHT by the entry for off roading people who are on the way to do the rubicon trail. Clean restrooms, clean trails, impeccable grounds and views, ample parking for me but when I was done hiking the spaces were full. Hiked to the viewpoint then walked the numbered trees loop. Saw bear, dear and likely raccoon tracks. Plus saw proof that "yes" a bear does poop in the woods. Lots of woodpeckers, chipmunks, ground squirrels, jays and junco birds, The trees are so large, incredible sequoias. Many of the huge downed trees have been preserved, propped up and or fenced. I hiked about 4 miles. It was a great day.

My family has been camping at Lake Camanche every year for the past 12 years. What started with…read morebabies, including one who was only 3 months old, has become a cherished family tradition. We typically camp with 40-55 family members, reserving multiple campsites and group sites to accommodate everyone. Many of our children have literally grown up camping here, and this annual trip has always been something our entire family looks forward to. This year, our group included nearly 60 people of all ages. We reserved multiple campsites and a group site, stayed within the occupancy limits, and paid for additional vehicle parking. We expected another fun weekend together, but instead it became one of the worst camping experiences we've ever had. On the first morning, we made a mistake. We woke up too early while preparing breakfast, and our music was too loud. A ranger responded to a complaint, and we immediately apologized, accepted responsibility, and made sure it would not happen again. Unfortunately, after that interaction, it felt like we were under constant scrutiny. Rangers repeatedly drove past our campsites, slowed down to watch us, and frequently stopped to tell us we were too loud even during daytime hours when quiet hours were not in effect. We were not throwing a wild party, we were simply spending time together as a large family. We lowered the music whenever asked, did our best to keep conversations down, and complied with every request. At no point were we told what specific daytime noise standard we were supposedly violating. The second night, we observed quiet hours after 10:00 p.m. and the next morning we remained quiet until after 8:00 a.m. Despite following the rules, the repeated drive-bys and warnings continued. Had the ranger simply asked us one final time to lower the noise, we would have gladly complied as we had throughout the weekend. Around 7:00 p.m. on our final evening, one family member was setting up a camera for our annual family photo. We had not yet gathered as a group. As a ranger drove by, the camera happened to be pointed in his direction while the angle was being adjusted. He stopped, accused us of recording him, claimed we were still too loud, and informed us that we were being evicted because we had already received two warnings. The sheriff was called, and we were given only 1 1/2 hours to gather nearly 60 people, pack multiple campsites, and leave or face arrest. The way this was handled was heartbreaking. We hadn't even eaten dinner. Our children overheard repeated statements about being arrested, became frightened, and several were crying. Instead of remembering our final night together, they now remember being rushed out under the threat of arrest. What hurts most is what they interrupted. The children and young adults had planned a surprise dinner for all the parents, aunts, and uncles. After years of watching the adults cook, they were finally old enough to take over the kitchen themselves. It was supposed to be a milestone after 12 years of family camping. Instead, it became a memory of fear and heartbreak. Beyond our experience with the rangers, we also noticed that the campground itself has declined. The restrooms were dirty even after staff had supposedly cleaned them. Two sinks remained clogged, toilet paper was left on the floor, and the restroom floors were still filthy. While cleaning the restroom, a staff member loudly yelled at several of the women in our group instead of speaking respectfully, making an already unpleasant experience even worse. We understand that campground rules exist for everyone, and we accept responsibility for our mistake on the first morning. However, there is a difference between enforcing the rules and making guests feel targeted throughout their stay. If large groups are expected to remain nearly silent during the day, then perhaps the group campsites should be located farther away from individual campsites. After 12 wonderful years of making memories here, it is heartbreaking that our family's tradition ended this way. We will not be returning. Thank you, Lake Camanche and EBMUD, for turning what should have been another joyful family reunion into an experience our children will never forget... for all the wrong reasons.

The staff was extremely rude and, at times, had a very aggressive approach when addressing us. Their communication felt unnecessarily confrontational rather than helpful or professional. The website also does not accurately advertise what guests should expect during their stay, which was very frustrating. Throughout the day, we felt like we were constantly being bothered and watched by staff. What made the experience even worse was hearing staff talk about us afterward. That is extremely unprofessional and made us feel uncomfortable during our stay. It's a shame because the campground is beautiful and has so much potential, but the way guests are treated can really ruin the experience. After this experience, I honestly don't know if I'll ever come back. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works on improving both customer service and the accuracy of the information provided on the website.
