One of our bucket list hikes. We went Saturday Sept 16th 2023 around 11am. The weather was about 82 degrees, We came from Citrus Heights it was about a 40 min drive we came up Salmon Falls Rd very curvy road. When we arrived at the parking lot there was Free Parking, big area, but with all the many trails offered and Horse trailers, could see the lot filling up fast during the cooler months. Good idea to get there early. There is one vault toilet in the far corner of the parking lot. Looking at the maps at the information board, there are many trails available to go on in this 1,414 acre park. This trip our destination was the Movie set cabin and then down to the South Fork of the American River to rest and enjoy sitting by the water and let London cool off her paws. We took the Cronan Ranch Road to get down to the movie set cabin, its very wide as it is a closed service road. The trail is along the grassy rolling hills with clumps of oak trees, it was beautiful. Along the trail there are very few shade spots by the big trees. You are mostly out in the open and exposed to the heat and sun. Make sure to bring lots of water and sunscreen, if hiking in warm temperatures. The hike was mostly down hill into the valley to get to the cabin which is approx 1.5 miles. We stopped and looked around at the cabin which is gated off. Alittle about the cabin- The sole purpose of the cabin was to serve as a movie set for "Love Comes Softly". Stars Katherine Heigl, Dale Midkiff and Skye McCole Bartusiak. There are a couple of picnic tables opposite of the cabin under a huge tree which makes for a beautiful picnic spot. My husband and I will make many future trips to Cronan Ranch. Dogs are allowed off their leash, but make sure to control them around other people, horses and bikes.

Cronan Ranch Trailhead is in Pilot Hill, California. There are about 12 miles of loops and trails for hiking, dog walking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, bird watching, and even hang gliding. The trail can be easy, including gently sloped to difficult with serious challenging mountains. Most of the trail paths are exposed to the sun so make sure you are prepared with protective wears, hat, sunblock, and water. Cronan Ranch connects with the South Fork American River corridor trail that runs from Greenwood Creek to Salmon Falls. This place is super Epic! The best part of hiking here today was the art and seek event. I found a piece of art, a beautiful mushroom glass made by Lara. WOW. I just now have to make something and putting it back in the nature. Come, explore, experience nature, and fall inlove!

Great place to go for a mild hike or aka a walk. Hard core hikers, you know those guys with hiking poles and hydration backpacks, would probably consider this a walk versus a hike. There are 12 miles of various trails. They got relatively flat ones, gentle sloping ones, and steeper ones. But all the better because the hikes (yes, I'm sticking to using the word hiking) means it's suitable for the kiddos and folks that don't hit the gym very often (I may or may not be speaking about myself). Better yet, parking and entry is free. Free! But this place is popular, the parking lot usually fills up quick especially on the weekends. Trails are shared by hikers, horses, mountain bikes, and dogs. There are restrooms in the lot and more along the river off Cronan Ranch Trail. To enter the trailheads, you have to walk over or under entry gate bars making it non-ADA accessible. I took the Cronan Ranch Trail all the way down to the river. Gorgeous views along the way. Each season will have different foliage. After all the recent rainstorms, the water run off from the hills were flowing down into the culverts by way of nature's created little streams. The sound of trickling water along the hike was relaxing. I went a bit overboard taking pics of the mini waterways. They were beautiful. The river was magnificent. However with all the recent rains and the time of year, the river is raging right now and the currents are strong. I hear in the summer, it's nice to stay in the shalllows along the river's edge for a dip. Another thing to note is that the trails aren't shaded. There are hardly any shade trees along the trails. There is no potable water sorce around. So take a note of that and plan accordingly in hotter months. There is a dilapidated wood cabin surrounded by a fence. After the hike I read some older Yelp reviews mentioning it was built in 2002 for a TV movie, "Love Comes Softly". Next to the structure were a couple of picnic tables under a big beautiful oak tree. But there are no trash cans around, you have to haul out your own trash. Another tip: don't stray to far away from the trails, there are rattlesnakes, ticks, gopher holes, and poison oak out there.

Located near Auburn Cronan offers multiple trails to hike. Our hike was about 5 miles round trip with some elavation lots of hawks and even sheep lol. The payoff was nice dip in the river before heading back. It was a bit hot on the trek back but survivable in the low 80's. There is a bathroom at the entrance and plenty of free parking. Overall a nice place for a day trip hike.

Awesome hiking spot about 50 mins drive from Sacramento. I got a little nervous on the way up because all the signs said parks were closed but once I got to the site, there was an open dirt road parking lot. Parking was busy but there were plenty of people coming and going. Once inside the park, there's wide open exposed trails which make it easy to be "physically" distanced from others. It's better to go in earlier in the morning since there's not a lot of shade on the flat trails. There's easy access to the river and really peaceful spot to relax. If you want shade, there's hilly trails with nice incline for a good workout. Dogs are allowed. There's lots of mountain bikers and they tend to be respectful.

Cronan Ranch Trails Park became a very busy trail for all the people wanted to have some exercise or just some fresh air. Many families come with their kids or their dogs. The main trail in the park is so wide and makes it easy to have the social distance. When we are there at around 11 am. The parking lot is completely full. We have to park our car on the side of the road. The trails are very easy and comfortable. Good for the whole family, any age with or without your dogs. So many kids with their families walking and they are happy. One of the good thing about this COVID-19 situation is it help families close together!

Rocks we found. In progress being painted.

This is review number Maestro or Maestra a few notes on the piano if you please Twenty Five. We went hiking December 27, 2020 then again yesterday of January 1, 2021. People mention a house. Yes there is a brown house. It was used in year 2003 for movie Love Comes Softly. Great movie, after yesterday hike we watched the movie. Many trails here. Think in town El Dorado Hills, California. There is an Up And Down Trail. Dogs are allowed. Many people ride their horses. There is a river, yes we picked rocks to take home and paint our "Masterpieces" or is it "Master Pieces?" Good way to spend the day, we all wore our masks. Until the enemy Mister Corona Virus permanently destroyed, please ah please WEAR YOUR MASK.

Beautiful day hiking with my son at a small town near by named Pilot Hill. There is ample Parking and restrooms at the parking lot and again just across from the river. The gushing river was breathtaking and very welcome on this winter day! The scenic trails were simply beautiful with numerous happy friendly hikers, doggies and horses along the way too. The only one factor I didn't like is that there are no shady areas along the trails-just open sun beams which is surely going to be too hot during the lovely summer months. If not very comfy hiking in such conditions arriving early morning or later in the cool evening hours would be a good suggestion to note. There were numerous trails to venture enter however staying in the main trail will lead you to the river. As much as I miss all the beautiful hiking trails I enjoyed over the years in the Bay Area-I am grateful we all have lovely sweet nature everywhere in this world with beautiful scenic hiking trails including my new valley home area too!

"The land for this park and river trail corridor was purchased by the American River Conservancy, BLM and other partners over a period of 16 years and placed into public trust to be used for recreation and wildlife conservation. " Beautiful rolling green hills, 16 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and biking, picnic tables down on the American River, watch the rafters go by, and an old rustic movie set. There is lots of Poison Oak, so don't touch the 3 leaf bushes! There are rattlesnakes here, but they prefer not to tangle with you, keep your eyes open, and prepare to give them the time and space to move along.

A great place to explore when weather is cooler. I've taken a few different trails here lately & feel there just isn't enough shade for a summer hike. It is really pretty & a good workout, though I wouldn't consider any of the trails I've taken so far to be strenuous. There is an old looking structure that apparently was built for a Hallmark movie called Love Comes Softly. And it's none of your biz if I've seen the movie & liked it. (I did.) There are also a couple good spots to access the river & enjoy a picnic. As another reviewer mentioned, the trails are east of the hills so if you're hiking with only an hour left before sunset (like I did last I was there), you will run out of light & warmth sooner than you think.

He had lots of knowledge about the California gold rush and it was nice to learn about it as an adult who didn't grow up in CA (I'm sure my 12yo loved learning about it too). While we camped at Earthtrek, it was super helpful that our trip included breakfast, 2 lunches (one lunch mid-rafting trip), and dinner. All meals were delicious and it was nice that there were gluten free options. The OARS site is spacious, with clean facilities, and a small shop for items. Now on to the rafting experience! For some background, my husband was the only one who had ever done it so my kiddo and I were newbies. Along with another kiddo and adult, we rafted through class 1-3 rapids and I never felt that we were not safe (despite me being the weakest swimmer in the family). Alec was truly a guide in every sense of the word. He prepped us before taking on the rapids - gave us the route we would take, what to expect in terms of how we were to paddle and what we had to do. We played some fun boat games and spent some time floating in the river which my husband and son loved. Also included were the always fun brain teaser riddles that had all of us entertained during the floating portions of our trip. After completing the class 3 rapids and all staying in the raft, we felt on top of the world and wanted to do more! If you have ever thought about trying white water rafting, do it - you won't regret it! It's truly an experience and a great time in nature with the family. OARS is a professional and inclusive company, with great guides!

This was my first time going both whitewater rafting and camping, and the entire time I felt taken care of, safe, and catered to in ways I hadn't even expected. I don't know how many times I shouted "Team Audrey!" as she expertly navigated difficult rapids. Roman was the guide responsible for riding ahead of us with all our cargo and setting up camp, and every time I was more and more impressed with the breathtaking set up he did with all of our tents, eating areas, and shaded spots. Dustin was a worthy team leader who made sure our trip went smoothly and on time, and was awesome to talk to and joke around with. And McClure was a thorough teacher and guide who is clearly passionate about what he does! I've noticed some reviews of people complaining about things out of Tributary's control like the bathroom quality or the heat or the other parties that would camp nearby. And even though that is technically not Tributary's juriscdiction, I still felt as if the four guides with us did everything they could to anticipate these problems and lessen their impact on our trip. Like they had a handwashing station for us, and had plenty of shaded areas for us to rest in. Not to mention they really took care of the quality of food we ate, giving gluten free and healthy options as well as snacks and drinks for us. Audrey, Dustin, Roman, and Mcclure. You four have a forever client in me. It is because of you guys I have such memorable stories that I will be telling until I am old. I can not thank you guys enough.

When leaving for camp, don't leave in the afternoon like our group. Due to an accident on the road, we were stuck in traffic for HOURS and had to set-up our tents in the dark. Bring a headlamp. Canyoneering - Although I recommend this activity, here are caveats: no bathrooms available and travel time is an hour each way. Emergency bathrooms are in the bushes. During our return, I saw a reservoir that the bus should stop at for bathrooms before and after. Know your group's limitations. Because we didn't know any better, our high school group went on the 6 hour LadyBug trail which I liken to Navy Seal training or somewhat like a heartier version of the Kalalau Trail in Kauai. Included in the hike are about 10 jumps into the very cold water and an optional high jump 10+ feet high, and lots of slippery rocks to navigate which is where many people fall. Do not do the LadyBug trail unless physically fit. With teens/kids of varying fitness levels, I highly recommend a short time of canyoneering and more water play. Canyoneering becomes no fun after hour 3. Perhaps the Evergreen trail is best for students of varying fitness levels as it has some canyoneering and lots of waterplay which our students couldn't get enough of. A couple of people in our crew fell off the trail due to soil erosion. Wear clothes that dry fast. Slow drying clothes mean your clothes remain wet and you become cold. High performance clothing is best. If you sun burn easily, wear long spf 50+ pants, a long sleeve shirt, and fast drying socks with shoes that you can hike AND swim in. Also, if your face burns, consider wearing a fishing face mask. Having a laundry line for clothes to dry on was useful to me. I wore Keen Uneek sandals which worked out well. If balance is poor or you do not do regular cardio/strength work, I don't recommend canyoneering. Beware: Lots of Poison Oak. If prone, bring Calamine lotion or vinegar and baking soda for relief. White Water Rafting - Guides are all about safety and provide not only a safety lesson on land before you get in the boat, but a safety lesson in the boat. Even with a class 3 rapid, several students and a chaperone fell out of the boat which may be scary to some, but you do get a lesson in "if you fall out of the boat". While experienced, our guide was thrown forward into me on one of the rapids. No need to wear any socks with your shoes, but good water shoes/sandals are recommended. For adults/chaperones, there's coffee and tea, and electrical outlets which was helpful to me as I needed to re-charge my battery that powers my CPAP machine. Having a solar powered fan was useful to me in the evenings when the air was warm and still. Providing food that is good and healthy must be one of the values of the camp as they do not allow junk food. Additionally, the camp will try to meet dietary needs like gluten-free. Dismissing tables is random and not fun when you're constantly picked last. I'm guessing the food tends to be saltier to prevent dehydration? For the in between times, apples and oranges and water are located in the kitchen. Lunch is provided on the hikes. For White Water Rafting, lunch timing is logistically poor because you start at 11:50am, then you have to hurry to the boats by 12:05pm. I don't like the rush to wait method of timing. Although the camp has a canopy for "sleeping under the stars", most of us brought tents which helped keep the dust out of everything. Camp is super dusty. If you do a 3 night trip, there's not a lot of down time, but when there is a couple hours, you'll want to be able to rest in your tent instead of the open. Moreover, there's a swing and a volleyball net, After dinner, there is an evening devotion centered on the Bible and don't forget the mosquito repellant AND a relief ointment. There's only 4 showers and four faucets in a trough sink for the whole camp so plan according.

We did a two day south fork trip, with a stop for the night on the river bank. Our guide Cryin' Bryan(just kidding Brian!!) and bonus gear guy Gator, were absolutely amazing. The were kind, helpful, had the best stories and cooked the best food. We did 21 miles of river over two days and it was unbelievable. Things we learned on this trip... -Gator taught me how to make a camping mocha(more like chocolate coffee when I made it!) with instant cocoa mix, coffee, creamer and water. -A tortilla wrap with PB&J and trail mix is the thing of dreams. -The front right seat of the raft is the 'hot' seat(or wet seat) and you will get hammered repeatedly. Haha. -Camping on the side of the river is magic. Pure. Magic. -Hospital bar has its name for a reason. -Composting toilets in the woods smell like a gerbil cage. -Brian's love of Star Wars and pineapple fried rice lead me to believe we could be real life friends. -You can make lifelong friends out of strangers you meet on a rafting trip. The meals they provided were amazing. Well beyond normal camping fare. For sure a perk with the trip. With things like chicken salad pitas, pancakes, sandwich wraps and fajitas, we were never hungry. We upgraded to the canvas tent they have at the campground for the first night and it was wonderful. The little front porch and getting to hear the river while we slept was magic. The newly upgraded bathrooms were probably the nicest I've seen at a rustic camp ground. The shower stalls are outside, but each one has a locking door with the shower stall and a little changing area with hooks and a bench(and the rain shower heads were great, but know the water pressure isn't the hardest, but not the worst either). When the 'Boss Man' picked us up from the river on the last day, it was really neat to get to chat with him. He asked for anything we think would add to the trip, and the only thing we can think of would be to bring along a yard game for the overnight trips, like ladder-ball or something for on the river. But there is absolutely nothing we would change. Enjoy my million pictures. I really couldn't pick and choose what to show, so I showed it all! We can't wait to go back!!

Lastly the bus to get back went great, but they kind of left us alone right after we got back to camp, even though we had some questions and were going to leave a tip (we left our wallets in the cars).
