Gave it a 3 because the service is good. I ordered sweet and sour pork with fried rice and my daughter ordered kung pao chicken which is okay. My husband ordered Mongolian Beef which didn't look or taste like Mongolian beef. Husband said it's good but definitely not a Mongolian beef. WORTH THE WAIT!!! I never thought I'd be saying the best Chinese I've had in the great gem state is in Burley. But here I am saying just that. Everything is made fresh and worth every second of the wait time. From start to finish we were there an hour and a half. From the soup to the rice and noodles and mains...oh my. We had the Chicken Stir Fry, General's Chicken, Mandarin Chicken and Walnut Shrimp. Everything was PHENOMENAL!!!! Will be back again for sure!! Don't read the wild reviews that are bad. The wait is long, but if you plan for it and call in an order to take out it's worth it. The food is good and the portions are large usually enough for multiple people, it's definitely a great deal and good food. I also can't recommend enough you have to get the chili oil for your noodles it's awesome my wife and I always have to get extra it's that good. read more

My wife & I were told by my brother-n-law that the China First restaurant was the best Chinese restaurant in town and Yelp listed it as number 2. So, we tried the place as we were anxious for some good food. We both like to eat and cook Asian cuisine, including Thai, so we were excited to taste our first Chinese food in Burley. First, the waitress and cook were very friendly. We hit the restaurant before the busy dinner hour and had a chance to talk with them. When we reviewed the menu though, the prices were very high - 6 Crab Rangoons for $14.95! That's right, $15. The regular dishes were $20-29 apiece. When the waitress came for our order, she said that there was a smaller portion menu available. The one we were looking at was a serving size for 2 or more people apiece. From the smaller portion menu, I ordered the Mongolian beef and requested 3-star spicy. My wife ordered the chicken moo-goo-gai-pan, 1-star. After waiting for at least 20 minutes, the waitress noticed our concern and stated that the cook made every dish from scratch so that it would be awhile. This idea of freshly-made food eased our apprehension. Finally, the chef brought our dishes to the table and the portions were indeed generous. But, I was very disappointed at the appearance as the sauce for both dishes was a thickened gravy texture and taste, not Chinese! My Mongolian beef was not spicy as requested, even though there were red peppers in the gravy. My wife's dish tasted similar to canned La Choy Chow Mein. As my final view of the food, even though we were both hungry, we could only eat about half of our food and did NOT want a to-go box! How many times does that happen in a good restaurant? It had never happened to us before. Save your money and go elsewhere or buy some canned Chinese food at the grocery store. It will be cheaper and taste better. read more

The worst Chinese food in Burley Idaho I ordered the stir fried pan noodles with chicken and pork and vegetables all I got was pork tossed on top which had no flavor there wasn't one vegetable in it at all the noodles were overcooked the pork was overcooked it had no flavor at all. Their portions I ordered a small it couldn't even close the lid it's fine if you are going to use those noodles for something else but as a single person I should be able to get like a half of a small or whatever it's the worst place ever read more

I'll start off by saying this, the staff was very nice. What the real bother is the service. We arrived and ordered within 5 minutes of being seated, it took well over an hour to be served. It's insane! There was no communication between the kitchen staff and relaying updates on our order. The menu was ridiculous, there was no order to the menu whatsoever. It was in complete shambles with little to no description of the food. On top of all the mentioned above there was zero COVID regulation inside this restaurant. Not a single customer was required to wear a mask, neither were the staff. Social distancing was non existent. The staff in the kitchen weren't even wearing gloves or hair nets?!? WORTH THE WAIT! You may have to wait for your meal; some in your party may get their meals before you, but seriously...this is a small town restaurant. Everything was FRESH! We're in Burley for the boat regatta & wanted something different. My husband is Asian and fairly picky about his food in general. He claims this was the best Chinese food he's ever had! (The menu/signs outside may be confusing...they serve Mexican food & some sushi, too). My veggie fried rice was full of fresh zucchini, broccoli, & green onions and tasted good. It was WAY too much for me to eat at one or even two meals! My husband's GIANT seafood platter took longer because the chef had to actually peel all the shrimp-there were A LOT (no frozen stuff here)! Is the atmosphere fancy? No. Wait people decked out? Not so much. But I give stars based on food quality (and in this case quantity!), and the kindness of staff. So, for a small, quirky restaurant, this place delivered. read more

I came to this location not knowing what to expect. It has 2.5 stars on Yelp, but I'm always up for giving places a try. I came during their slower times in the afternoon. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean this location is. It roomy and definitely has an inviting atmosphere. When you make a quick left turn, you notice their MEXICAN FOOD MENU! I thought that was absolutely awesome! There is a variety of food here including sushi. I had the #3 which was chicken stir fry noodle, sweet and sour chicken, fried shrimp, and pork fried rice and a large drink . The price of this was $15.50 plus tax. Which is the average price of many of their items on the menu. At first I thought to myself "I really hope the portions are big and good for that price." When the order came out, I was blown away. It was a great size and oh my goodness! It was delicious. I was not disappointed by it. I couldn't finish the food so I definitely had to save some for later. The only "issue" which really wasn't an issue is maybe a little more flavor to the egg flour soup and a little less onions. Overall with the gentleman's service (Lance) and the food, I decided to give this place a 5 star rating because they have definitely earned it. We aren't from the area, so I'm glad I stopped to give them a try. If you're not from the area, you should think about trying it out. The restaurant is clean, well lite, and roomy. I had the General Chicken. While the sauce is a little more sour then what I prefer it was good. Batter was crispy, fried rice typical of many like restaurants, egg was also good. To start the meal egg drop soup was provided. I enjoyed the soup even with the corn in it. The corn actually added to the flavor. All the food was served hot, none of this lukewarm stuff. With out a sought it is an American Chinese restaurant and judged accordingly. Service was slow and unfortunately the server didn't get our order right. Fortunately the owner was kind enough to correct the issue and our bill. We came at 5:30pm and had to wait an hour before our food was ready. Food was not great. I could hardly tell the difference between the Sweet and Sour Pork and the Orange Chicken. Its redeeming qualities include a clean environment and they serve you with a lot of food. The two we purchased were much more than we could eat. DO NOT EAT HERE! This place seemed extremely unsanitary, the women working there had her half eaten bread on the tray with our food and then proceeded to eat it as she walked away from the table. The general chicken was leftover from the previous day and was hard as a rock. She asked how big her tip was going to be at the table. They have open containers of food just sitting at the front of the restaurant. The fortune cookies were even terrible, they tasted like butt. We ordered takeout the other night and ordered two orders of the chicken stir fry noodles. My family could barely make a dent in one order! Never again! I walked in to place a takeout order, was given a menu, said he would be right back to take my order... no worries. A few minutes later, a guy took my order, gave me a total, ran my card.... no worries. Then, it started. He told me it would be about 45 minutes to an hour. Huh?!!???!? I asked why so long, to which he said, "there is a table of 6 ahead of your order". Again...huh!!????!?! There was one table of 6 and one table of 2 who were already eating. He said I could wait or come back. I sat in the car for almost half an hour and went back in. "It's still gonna be at least 30 minutes," I was told. I asked why, and he mumbled something about everything from scratch. Ok, benefit of the doubt. Finally after another 30 minutes, he came out with my order. So, in essence, even though everyone in there was scurrying around quickly, this is the slowest chinese restaurant I have ever been. As for the food... mediocre at best. It was no better than any other average place. And remember that mumble about "from scratch,"? Hard to believe. They probably do "hand make" the crab rangoons. They are not the usual rangoon. Filled triangles that remind me more of an empinada. There was so much cream cheese in them, that that's all you could taste. Extremely slow service combined with less than stellar food means never again. read more

The only reason they got two stars from me is because the soup was really good. That being said the rest of the meal was terrible. When the food came out 45 minutes after we ordered we didn't mind because like I said the soup was good, but as it got closer there was a strong sent off ketchup coming from the sweet and sour chicken. So we automatically thought that the chicken was going to be it's down fall, but one look at the chow main and it was clear that the soup was the only bright spot of the meal. The shrimp and pork cow Mason were exactly the same thing cabbage fried noodles and shrimp or pork just sitting on top. That old Chinese lady is the most unprofessional, unbelievable, greedy person. That place is disgusting I found a hair in my food and when I pointed it out she had the nerve to touch my food with her bare hands and try to hide it with her hands and then when I pointed it out to her again on her hand she claimed it was a bean sprout and instead of offering me a new plate or a refund she just tried giving me my food back after picking the hair and she said no when I asked for my money back. I wanted to find a good local Chinese restaurant to feed that occasional need for takeout. I called and tried to order based on their online menu. I wanted a quart of General Tso's chicken for me, a quart of broccoli beef for my wife, and a quart of chow mein to share. You can't get General Tso's in a qt, only family size. Ok I'll upgrade us to family size and replace the fried rice with chow mein. Placed the order and was told it would be ready in forty five minutes. Fifty minutes later walked in the door and waited another fifteen to get my food. Brought it home and it was delicious. Way to much food though. Family size is just as it sounds. Fast forward two weeks and I called to order again. My wife liked General Tso's chicken so we planned on getting that (only available in family size) and change the fried rice to lo mein. Lo mein is only available as a quart side and can't be substituted for the rice. I told them to forget it and ordered pizza instead. Slow, unhelpful, and unwilling to make an order fit what you want. read more
