Food was excellent, especially for dim sum Tuesday! Service was dismal. At least the host acknowledged my existence... he even had to ask if I had been served and of course no, no water yet in 90 degree heat wave. Server never came by so he even took my order. I had to flag someone down for a check and more water. I'd go here for the food, but the service was terrible.

Honestly, it's average food at above average prices. The ambiance is what you're paying for here, because the space is pretty cool. I was surprised at how busy it was, despite the average tasting food. It is loud and difficult to have conversations, so that is worth considering. I got to sample quite a few dishes, and aside from Siu Mai, I don't think there's a single dish I would order again. I love Peruvian food and Chinese food, but this didn't work for me. The prices are not absurd by any means, but for the same money there's better places. Service was also really slow. Food came out decently fast, but it took forever to pay.

I had no idea there was another José Andres spot in a two block radius - and it was worth the visit! Our server was attentive and made a great recommendation on the cauliflower when we decided to get another dish. We especially loved the ceviche Nikkei - great flavor and texture. The Hong Kong rich noodle dish was so so compared to the rest. And the dessert - yum! Tasted like caramel with passion fruit ice on top. The decor / ambiance is both modern and also low key - they have metal chairs, and funky lights. It doesn't have the higher end feel -- if that's what you want, try Zaytinya.

Came here with my friend and had a delicious meal consisting of Ceviche Nikkei, Lucky 12 (4pcs of 3 different types of siu mai), and the Aji de Gallina. My favorite was siu mai! Out of the three types of siu mai, the siu mai tradicional was my favorite. The Aji de Gallina delicious but not the best I've had. I do think fusion restaurants generally are always half-good at traditional dishes and miss the mark. My friend and I were most impressed by the dessert: ponderaciones de kiwicha! The banana ice cream it comes with was DELICIOUS, it pairs so well with the cocoa powder! I would come back just for dessert and also want to try Dim Sum Tuesday discounted deals. Service was fast, and the lights inside the restaurant are super cool I loved the ambiance. Random but the bathrooms also are very interesting very on theme.

Cheeseburger on weekend brunch menu - 5 stars. foreground is crispy pig skin with spicy sauce (free)

We enjoyed our weekend brunch. We order 2 ceviches to share, a tuna and octopus. All of us loved the tuna. One didnt care for the octopus. For entrees, we ordered the cheeseburger from the brunch menu which was fantastic. We didnt care for the plantain sides though. We also shared the Concolon fried rice and added shrimp, which had really interesting spices. I would come here again. Cocktails were kind of a miss though. Waitress wasnt very familiar with the cocktail menu.

We're fans of Chef José Andrés whole make the world a better place vibe and have made it our mission to try all of his DC restaurants whenever we're in town. This time up it was China Chilcano...Pervian/Asian/Spanish fusion food with lots of vegetarian options and unique things to try. We (my wife, son and I) all got variations of the tasting menu and each made different choices from the options available...and we each had different experiences. I had a bit of a "the grass is greener" experience as I tried bits of what my son had ordered and generally preferred what he got in terms of taste and texture. Universally, the food was gorgeous and presented in a photo-ready manner one would expect from this kind of establishment. The desserts were also unique and worth trying. (Often desserts at a nicer place can be standard variations of the same thing you can get anywhere...what's on the menu here is worth sticking around for as you can't get it anywhere else. I also had a Pisco Sour Cocktail...I'm a fan of trying the things that are unique to where I am...in this case, the cocktail looked and tasted great, but it had more of a standard sour vibe than anything else. If the Peruvian pisco liquor had any unique taste, I wasn't able to perceive it in this cocktail. Service was perfect.

Lomo saltado

Not one of Jose Andre's best restaurants i just admit. It's probably at the same level as Jaleo. The ceviche and Hamachi was ok nothing special. My clients enjoyed their lomo saltado and tallarines saltado. My shrimp saltado was ok but a little bland. Servers were friendly and the ambiance is nice inside with fun decor throughout the restaurant which is pretty big. I'll try other places next time I'm in the nation's capital. Would recommend you do the same.

Vibrant, innovative, and flat-out delicious. The fusion menu here is incredible, and the tasting menu (plus the cocktail pairing!) is 100% the way to go if you want the full experience. The service was seamless and collaborative, making for a very welcoming atmosphere despite the high energy. A perfect spot for anyone wanting to step outside their culinary comfort zone.

Came here before a show at Warner Theater - a little far from the venue but not a bad walk! We started with the brussel sprouts and yucca fries - both were incredible. A bonus was their ability to accommodate for gluten allergies! For my main I got the Tam Tam with a fried egg - it was so flavorful and a perfect portion! Highly recommend for a date night or dinner with friends!

Travel Check in, went to DC for dinner and it also happened to be "Restaurant Week". Super cute place, the place creates a menu with different fusions from different cultural menu items. Super exciting coming from a Foodie. Food; Restaurant Week came with three courses and a dessert. Started off with the Kam Lu Wantan, which was sooo good. All the courses were different and eclectic with flavors that burst in your mouth. I wish I took better notes on the names of the dishes, everything was fresh and delicious. We have a server recommended bottle of wine that paired perfectly with everything. Service; We sat outside with the view of the street and lights. Everyone was so helpful and friendly.

Modern Chinese food with a flare...a bit too much flare for this girl. Beautifully decorated with an edgy cocktail menu and attentive staff. The menu is fusion meets traditional Chinese flavors. The tofu appetizer was good, crispy, light flavor with a tangy sauce. I also ordered a soy noodle dish, the noodles were shaped like coins so they were way too thick and chewy for my liking. Make sure you have a reservation, the wait is pretty long.

Cauliflor Saltado

It was exciting to try Chef Jose Andres' China Chilcano, featuring Native Criollo, Chinese Chifa and Japanese Nikkei cuisines, honoring Peru's diverse heritage. We were a group of six, so we were able to order a good sampling of dishes and share. I don't drink much, but tasted a few sips of the Chilcano, the popular and refreshing Peruvian cocktail which contains Pisco, lime, Amargo Chuncho bitters and fever-tree ginger ale---it was good! -- Dancing Yucca - Yucca fries, Aji amarillo mayo, kabayaki sauce, bonito flakes; -- Cauliflor Saltado - Wok cauliflower, cauliflower purée, green onion, chili de arbol, sesame; -- Ceviche Nikkei - Big eye tuna, soy-cured egg yolk, ponzu, puffed quinoa, avocado, jicama, red onion, furikake; -- Aji de Gallina - Peru's most precious dish! Aji Amarillo chicken stew, fresh cheese, pecans, botija olive, egg, rice; -- Lomo Saltado - Beef filet, tomato, soy sauce, Aji Amarillo peppers, potato, onions; -- Aeropuerto - Fried rice, egg noodles, crisp sweet potato, seasonal vegetable, soy bean sprouts; -- Plus, we had another dish which I didn't remember the name of, but photo included! Everything was tasty, and we all enjoyed it very much. The melding of the flavors and ingredients, and the attention to detail was really great. I especially enjoyed the Ceviche, chicken stew (Aji de Gallina), Lomo Saltado and Aeropuerto. Service was friendly and efficient, and the decor was beautiful! Ambience was great as well. Recommended. We all took a ride-share to get there, so I'm not sure about parking.

Tam Tam
Lily P.

Solid restaurant with flavorful and interesting dishes. Plates are a bit small, but you can still expect to be full and without leftovers. I tried the Donburi Ji Song (without avocados or cilantro) and the Tam Tam noodles. The chicken in the donburi was quite flavorful, but the portions were small. I thought there would be more chicken with the amount of rice given. The Tam Tam noodles were excellent, and I would highly recommend this dish. It combined the delicious knife-cut noodle texture with a unique spicy sauce that I thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant overall has an interesting concept - Chinese, Japanese, and Peruvian fusion food. I would be curious to see how more of their dishes taste with this unique cultural cuisine fusion.

Do they serve halal meat?

Appears they do not @dmv_halaloholic

How is the parking situation? Especially for Friday's night. Thank you.

Our rez was for 9pm and we found street parking around the corner. There's also lots you can pull into around the corner. But cars were pulling in and out on the street so give it a shot first.

Is there pet friendly seating? We have a small dog

Yes they have outdoor seating that allows for space for a dog!

Is there normally a line for lunch?

No. We've walked right in and seated right away a few times....never a line at lunch time in my experience.

Is pisco hour at the bar only?

Yes - bar only

So was the overhead music. Guess I expected a more authentic Korean experience, but the place was more or less an Americanized Korean bistro. Still, the foods seemed authentic! We ordered a few things to share... Mandu, Dolsot Bibimbap, and this Ssam Board. For drinks, my husband got some beer (?), and I got this fruity cocktail (??). First, the positives! The Mandu was really, really good...and quite meaty! The Dolsot Bibimbap was good in that it came with a generous load of fresh veggies. Now the problems. The Bulgogi in the Dolsot Bibimbap was problematic. It was a bit too fatty...and too chunky...and just hard to eat. It was also a bit bland! They should have cut it up a bit...or provided us with proper cutlery, like a fork and a knife! This is a pet peeve of mine...but nowadays, hardly any restaurant gives you the full set of cutlery. Just fork, or just chopsticks!! Then the Ssam Board. While it looked luscious, I personally had a problem with the meat. While I love Galbi, cuts of Galbi was all-out rare. The waiter didn't even ask for our preference, by the way. If I knew it'd be prepared that red, I would have ordered something else. If it was medium-rare, for instance, I might have liked this dish. My husband prefers a much more rare cut of meat than me, yet even he thought this was too red. Also, I expected something more than raddish for sides. Not sure if this "Board" was worth $42. We also tried this Black Sesame Ice Cream dessert. I loved the flavor...but nothing too special. Service was a bit off as well. While friendly at our table, our waiter wasn't too attentive...especially in the beginning. If he stopped by our table earlier, I might have gotten them to bring back the Ssam Board to cook the meat a bit more. Frankly, I was underwhelmed with the foods, the presentation, even the service. Overall, there were just too many things amiss (or just underwhelming??)...so much so that I doubt I'll pick this place again.
