Everything is amazing! I've had most the dishes on this menu and love them all! I became vegetarian a few months back and this is one of the few restaurants that is just as great as before! Definitely my favorite restaurant.
Llapingachos were great to try and kind of reminded me of a pupusa but breakfast style! I loved the avocado sauce and tomatoes paired with. The Encocado mahi mahi was probably my favorite. The coconut sauce paired really well and reminded me of Thai curry but leaning more towards the nuttier rounded flavor profile. It goes really well with the green sauce they have and the plantains! The mahi mahi was really tender. Well priced, nice way to explore Ecuadorian cuisine. Decor was cute inside the restaurant. Service was quick and attentive. Note that Amex isn't accepted but other credit cards are.
We love this place!!! Today we got some different drinks, limeade and chicha morada (blue corn) both were tasty. Our table got the honrado con papa - the meat was super tender and flavorful and the potato cheese pancakes had a nice crunchy finish and gooey inside. We also got seco de carne (my fav) and chaulafan which is like Ecuadorian fried rice. Everything was amazing. We also really love the green sauce they serve with the entrees.
Amazing food! I didn't really know what to expect as I haven't tried Ecuadorian food before but what stood out the most to me was how flavorful the meat was. We tried entrees with chicken, steak and pork and I couldn't believe how good every kind of meat was. Whatever they marinate it in is soooo flavorful! The portion size was big and we all left really full. For the quality and portion size I think it was really reasonably priced! We went on a Saturday and it was busy, there was a line out the door. But the food was worth the wait! Most of the entrees came with a green sauce that was so good we asked for two more servings of it. Inside the restaurant it feels like you're actually in Ecuador with the colors and decorations. I'll definitely be back!
If you've never had Ecuadorian or Andean cuisine before, Chimborazo is the perfect place to start--and if you have, it's the kind of restaurant that feels like coming home. My first visit was during early-fall patio season, but even as the weather cools and the patio takes a well-earned rest, the same warmth and flavor can be found inside. Their interior is spacious, cozy, and welcoming--like being invited into someone's (very stylish) family kitchen. That feeling isn't an accident. Chimborazo is family-owned, and you can taste that care in every bite. Every dish feels personal--like it was cooked by someone who wants you to leave happy and full. It's not often you find a restaurant that nails both authenticity and atmosphere, but Chimborazo does it effortlessly. During this visit, I sampled: - "Guanabana" juice: I'm usually a big fan of guanabana, but this version didn't quite hit the sweet spot for me--it leaned a bit on the bitter side. Still, it's an adventurous choice, and if you're feeling curious (or brave), it might just surprise you. - "Muchín de Yuca": Deep-fried cassava croquettes filled with queso fresco. These little bites were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Served with an aji criollo dipping sauce, a form of (not spicy) chili pepper, they were good, but not as great as the empanadas. - "Empanada de Carne": As a self-proclaimed empanada connoisseur, I can confidently say this one hit the mark. The flour empanada was fried to a perfect golden crisp and stuffed with tender, well-seasoned beef and a mix of vegetables. You could practically taste the care that went into marinating and seasoning the filling--it was savory, satisfying, and honestly, a little addictive. -"Churrasco": This plate was a flavor-packed powerhouse. Grilled flank steak arrived juicy and tender, accompanied by rice, a fried egg, beans, sweet plantains, and freshly cut French fries. The beans stole the show for me--slow-cooked to perfection, rich, and full of flavor. The combination of the soft white rice and sweet plantains made every bite comforting and balanced. Generous, hearty, and undeniably satisfying, this dish is the kind of meal that makes you appreciate the art of Andean comfort food. -"Tres Leches": The perfect ending to an already incredible meal--and easily my favorite bite of the day. I've tried my fair share of Tres Leches around the Twin Cities, but Chimborazo's version has officially claimed a spot in my top three. It's creamy, perfectly sweet, and soaked in a dreamy milk mixture that's rich without feeling heavy. I'll admit, I stretched it out over a couple of days to make it last--eating it in careful quarters like it was culinary gold. Some desserts are worth savoring slowly, and this one is absolutely one of them. The service at Chimborazo deserves its own round of applause. Even during the busy lunch rush, everything ran smoothly without feeling rushed. My waitress was friendly and attentive, taking the time to answer my (many) questions about the menu with genuine enthusiasm. She even offered a free sample of their homemade Limonada. Like the food, the service struck that rare balance of warmth and professionalism--proof that great hospitality is just as much a part of the experience as what's on the plate. Looking forward to my next visit, and in the meantime, I hope you'll give them a try! Pro tip: come hungry, and don't skip the "Tres Leches".
Fantastic place. Good food. Nice staff. The ambiance is packed but it's great. I would recommend them to anyone.
Really authentic, unique flavorful food. We tried this place after seeing a movie at the lovely heights theater. Delicious coconut shrimp platter and the empanada I had was super good. Delicious potato fries and sweet plantains. Full of people! Very popular place. Very fun to try something different. Only cons: expensive (30 a person) and parking lot is TINY
This was a fun place! The food was good and it was our first time here so the server gave some recommendations. I got the pork plate, the meat was really good and I like the cheese stuffed pancake like item. The corn wasn't very flavorful so I ate it with the sauce. I really liked the cheese empanada. My friend got the coconut shrimp dish and really enjoyed it as well.
Went to Chimbarazo for an early dinner for work and it was such a good experience. It's cozy, intimate, with comforting food and lovely people. The service was superb, so kind and attentive. The food was fulfilling and flavorful. The Ecuadorian fried rice, the ceviche, and yucca were PHENOMENAL. Highly recommend Chimbarazo and can't wait to go back.
Amazing and delicious. The flavors are strong and the service is so nice. There are many amazing options on the menu but it's hard to pick something new when the first thing I tried was so good. The Seco de Carne is a plate where everything tastes amazing together. The meat was very tender and I added a fried egg. Free street parking is a nice plus.
Finally went here and we were so glad we did. I went with my vegetarian family members and they loved it. I also thought there empanadas were yummy. Definitely try their soups as well. Great little parking lot. Service was amazing. Cute place!!
If you want to try a different cuisine and try new food, I'd highly recommend Chimborazo! Every time I go to Chimborazo I leave more excited to go back! Food is full of flavor and cooked to perfection! The servers are always kind and knowledgeable about the menu.
This is a wonderful spot! The ambiance is casual, bright and colorful. The service was good. We ordered the shrimp encocado which was creamy and savory. We also ordered the chicken Lomo saltado which was a great combo of veggies, meat and sauce with a hint of spice. Overall the food was tasty! They offer date night specials on Wednesday's which comes with a bottle of wine and 2 entrees (options vary weekly) for $55.
Amazing! Despite the sorta long service and wait times, the food was extraordinary and a good introduction to Ecuadorian food in this cozy Minneapolis neighborhood. I don't even remember the name of my particular dish (so glad the menu has pictures!) but it had cuts of meat, rice, and overlayed with a tangy and aromatic sauce. There are so many dishes to try here and it warrants many more future visits to try the other unique dishes offered! read more

So a couple of things you need to know about this place, if you haven't been before the front door is locked, you have to go around the back where you will be greeted by the hostess, you have the option to inside seating or patio seating, the service was excellent, my server name was Paige I believe sorry I'm bad with names but she was very sweet, attentive and nice. Now the food, I'm originally from Ecuador and all although I make and cook my own food, I love to support my fellow Ecuadorian business, I am visiting from San Diego, CA and we don't have Ecuadorian restaurants there, so when I came across this place you bet I had to try it, and it did not disappoint, so good! So if you are visiting Minneapolis or live here and want to try something new, I recommend this place a 100%. Oh and the ambiance is very nice too, read more

Have been wanting to come here forever! Finally made it over to Northeast to try @chimborazo_ne for some authentic Ecuadorian food If you haven't tried it before, this is the place to go! Everything was super fresh, and came out so fast. Very friendly service, I was surprised to see so many American customers. Started with a Mango Mimosa (on their brunch special for $6!) and traditional Ecuadorian apple soda called Manzana. We tried both their beef and cheese empanadas, I really liked the beef. Main Meal- Chaulafan * Ecuador's version of super flavorful fried rice with pork, chicken, shrimp, and eggs (the shrimp were HUGE!) Churrasco * traditional plate with Beef, rice, fried egg, beans, fried sweet plantains and fresh cut French fries Try something new!! read more
We ordered their Lomo Saltado. This was a pretty disappointing meal for the $17 charge. The beef was nicely smoky and salty, but it wasn't perfectly tender. The potatoes were slightly undercooked. And the tomatoes were mushy. The rice and avocado were well-executed. But this experience didn't line up with the rave reviews I've seen. read more

I've been a couple times now and the chaulafan is definitely a go to if I don't feel like cooking for myself for dinner that night. It's delicious, good portion size, and filling. The churrasco is good too but I just keep coming back to the chaulafan. Really good both in the restaurant and for takeout. I almost prefer takeout as the restaurant can get busy and there might be a wait line. Parking also isn't the easiest in this area as well so be aware of that when coming and plan ahead. Overall a great place to get some filling and delicious food. Also the green sauce is incredible and you should ask for extra read more

The ambiance was bright and cheery. The service was good- friendly and efficient servers. We tried the yucca fries- pretty good and enough for 4 people. We tried the Saltado with flank steak. It was tasty but the portion could have been larger. Next time I'll try the Churrasco, given it also has flank steak but also has beans, plantains and fries. They had an IPA, (Fair State Party Forward) but I wouldn't recommend it as it was too light and was more like a watered down session ale. Tried the chocolate cake dessert, shared with 3 people, and it was tasty. A few parking spots in the back, otherwise street parking. read more
Some may call it heretical, but for those of us who like to be spontaneous sometimes I was thrilled that Chimborazo doesn't take reservations. Why should I know what food I will be in the mood for 17 days in advance? Show up, wait in line - it moves fast, especially for two people. And don't be a novice, read the sign that says go in the back entrance. Inside, the place transports you away from Minneapolis and into the casual Ecuadorian atmosphere. You can quickly see how much the owners care, and there's something nice about waiting and watching the cooks in the kitchen. Once seated, we ordered the yuca fries, which showed up 45 seconds later. The fries were good - the garnish was a little heavy on the vinegar, but that may just be a personal preference. I've had lots of yuca fries, and the sauce/garnish here were unique, so I appreciated having an additional flavor to "fried." I ordered the mahi mahi encocado. The sauce was akin to a curry and quite flavorful with the rice, and I have to say the plantains were some of the best I have had. read more

Quality ingredients and quality customer service. We came here on a whim to give it a shot and man, did this place not disappoint! Started off with a nice glass of Malbec and we shared an amazing Empanada de carne, and the sauce it came with was incredibly delicious! Ordered the Saltado which was packed with flavor, but what stole the show for the night was the Encocado with Mahi-mahi and shrimp. Man, was the coconut sauce to die for. Going back soon just to have that dish all to myself. Thank you for a great dinner Chimborazo! read more

The food was hands down amazing. It was a lot of the food for the churrasco but loved the chicken. The service was quick but efficient. She mentioned about specials that sounded really good. The ambiance was pretty quaint. I'll make another trip here to try a different dish. Try the Tres Leches for dessert. It's to die for and one of the best in Minneapolis! read more

We came here on a Monday night and got seated (as a table of 3) pretty quickly! The food also came out very quickly. The portion sizes are very generous and definitely could have shared a plate for two. My favorite was definitely the yuca fries!! Highly recommend- super crispy and the garlic topping was so good as well. The meat is a little on the chewy side and hard to cut but the seasoning was great. Would come back again! read more

I would never have come here without my bf to be honest, but so happy he dragged me to this place. It looks super sketchy, like a hole in the wall, but the food is amazing. I've been a couple times now and both times left so satisfied. The staff are all very nice and willing to explain the menu to you if you're not familiar with anything. The flavors are out of this world. I still don't think I'd eat there alone but I would do pick up to go for sure. It looks like there's a patio in the back which could be nice in the spring/summer. I also think there's only street parking if that's important to you. read more

Ambiance is very nice, food is great, and service is great. I didn't order the most adventurous option here (just got a salad with chicken) but even still the chicken was cooked wonderfully. Will definitely be back! read more

Chimborazo got that yummy yum. This food was on point! Vibes were authentic, and reasonably priced. What I ordered: - bottle of wine - weekly special (lamb chops) Pro tips: - restaurant does not take reservations, however if you call 15-30minutes before you arrive they will make space -they don't take American Express -if there is a wait go to Twin Spirits to wait out the rush Things to try: - empanadas -tres leches -yuca fries read more

The food was good, the place was casual and the the service was decent. For starters my friend and I shared the Yuca fries and the shrimp ceviche. The Yuca fries were on point!!! Plus that green sauce on the side was delish. We agreed that we could have just had two orders of the yucca and would have been satisfied because they were just that good! We really wanted the sweet plaintains without the cheese but they were sold out for the night. I had the Beef Soltado and my friend had the Chicken Soltado. No complaints here just good flavor! I had enough left overs to take some home and enjoy on round to. This little spot has some charm and would go again and try some other dishes. read more
Amazing local Ecuadorian restaurant! Very unique menu with lots of options. The llapingachos are something cool and recommend ordering at least one - potato pancakes stuffed with cheese (who wouldn't love that). The chorizo was great as a protein for the llapingacho dinner along with the fried egg and rice. Super tasty. Service is amazing and the waiters are attentive and friendly. Easily got a table for 7 on a Friday night, which was a great surprise. I have also been for breakfast on the weekend, and it was equally as amazing. Highly recommend! read more

After all the reviews, I just couldn't plan-tain my excitement for this place ;) Here's the lineup: Churrasco (Flank steak marinated in highland spices and grilled. Served with rice, fried egg, beans, sweet plantain, fresh cut fries, and curtido) Caldo de Bolas de Verde Green (Plantain dumpling filled with meat and vegetables in a savory peanut broth) Chimborazo was no bore at all. The interior is humble with cultural adornments galore. It was quiet for the first hour, after which this place got poppin'; we didn't see a single table free during our departure The Churrasco was my choice. I'll admit, the plate looks a bit confusing... but it bore its burden of proof quite well, blowing past my expectations. The beef was a flavorful medium-rare, served slice-it-yourself style, which is my preference. The fries weren't bad at all, the beans added much needed moisture, and the sweet plantains were a perfect compliment to this savory-forward dish. And whoever's idea it was to put an over-easy egg atop rice... oh ya, it's pretty nice. A few vegetables were a nice way to freshly furnish a dish sourced from the Andean highlands. And finally, the Curtido (green sauce) deserves a comment. It's a lightly fermented Cabbage Relish--delicious and spicy, it reminded me of a subtle wasabi. It was also gone by the end of the meal... My fellow foodie tried the soup and thought it was pretty good, but its clear the Churrasco embodies the true character of Chimborazo! This little place is a fantastic way to stamp your palate passport and try something new! read more
