Cumin Beef (Spicy) - spicier than we were expecting!! About $20

Came in close to their closing time and were seated and served immediately (understandably.) Ordered cumin beef and a prawn/chicken dry pot. I liked how they gave a generous portion of rice for the table. We knew this was a szechuan place and were expecting that numbing spice, but we agreed that the spice level here was still beyond what we were expecting, especially with the cumin beef. The flavors were great overall. Still on the pricier side (about $20 a dish) with very average portion sizes.

It's been a minute since our last visit and I can say the taste and quality of food is still the same. Service is great and we are greeted by the nicest Chinese ladies. You have to be patient with communication but they never get frustrated. They also have this new Sichuan bowl that I haven't tried yet as I wasn't sure if it was hotpot or what-it says no broth but you get to pick meat and veggies like in a hotpot. Ambiance is still the same-quiet and pretty relaxing especially since we went on a Thursday afternoon

Unbelievable. Services was friendly and fast, the menu incredibly expansive and everything was delicious. We probably ordered too much but it gave us a chance to try everything. Egg rolls were great and the pot stickers were spot on. We had the green beans which were flavorful and perfectly prepared. Be warned on ordering; know your spice level. We got the popcorn chicken at a level 1 (just right) and the fish at a level 2 (had me sweating quite a bit). The flavors really popped. Sesame chicken was great, not your standard version from a regular Chinese place.

We are frequent customers for their location in St. Louis and took our friends in Columbus to eat at this location. This is a smaller restaurant in a shopping strip malls. Great foods and services. We love fried green beans, fried fish fillets, and stir fried beef. Not a fancy restaurant but it is the type that you can come everyday either by yourself or in small/large group.

Chilispot is so delicious! The dishes are packed with flavor and there is truly something for anyone. The service was also good! I recommend this place if you're craving Chinese and want a little bit of spice!

Great option especially if you like mala flavored spicy food! The fried chicken or fish with hot pepper is a must if you like that crunchy fried texture with a kick. It's just the right amount of spicy and the roasted peanuts add a nice nutty flavor to the dish If you like dumplings, then definitely try their steamed dumplings in chili oil. It's one of the less spicy options and a pretty good deal for the price. The spicy boiled fish is also one of my favorites! The fish is so soft and there's plenty of garlic, scallions, bean spouts, and other veggies to mix with rice. The portion is also really generous so you can share with friends! The mapo tofu is also really good but beware because the Mala flavor is really strong so your mouth will tingle! Service is really quick and there is plenty of seating indoors. It's definitely a good place to come with a group so you can share a family style meal!

I visited with my partner and their friends for dinner. I ordered the mopu tofu and my partner ordered the popcorn chicken. We had recently tried Szechuan food so we had a good idea of how this place should have compared. The tofu was silky so hard to eat. The food itself was not spicy at all even though it had two pepper signs and there was an abundant taste of ginger. As a vegetarian, I had this, eggplant, green beans and the fries as my ONLY options throughout the entire menu. Overall, our group thought the food was average and no one is going to come back. Portions are large and you pay for it but I would recommend going to a Thai place that would be more flavorful and has similar serving sizes.

Boiled Fish With Spicy And Numbing Sauce (Spicy)

My husband and I came across this restaurant when we needed to kill some time at the BMV right around the corner. The restaurant was quiet and clean, service was quick and friendly. We ordered way too much food but it was all delicious. My husband had the boiling spicy fish and is still raving about it! The wontons and eggplant were delicious! My spare ribs were meaty and had great flavor. 10/10

We had an amazing meal for Chinese new year. We had dinner for two - we got egg rolls and potstickers to start. For dinner we got the chefs special beef vegetable dish and my partner got the beef tripe broth bowl (super spicy). It was very delicious and flavorful. We could taste either jasmine or lavender in the sauce too. All dishes come with a big bowl of white steamed rice. For dessert we tried the pan friend sticky rice cakes that come with brown sugar. It was really interesting but good!! Overall this is a very unique Chinese restaurant!!

Authentic Chinese food here. Hundreds of dishes to choose from but I only came for the salt and pepper popcorn chicken. Seemed like every table had ordered some version of the popcorn chicken. Really enjoyed it. Would like to see a popcorn chicken option with a general Tso's dipping sauce on the side. Also had a spicy chicken dish as well as the Szechuan wontons. A little spicy for us, but the wontons were on point.

While I'm not much of a spicy fan, two of my friends love the heat, so I suggested we meet at ChiliSpot for lunch. Our service was quick and both ladies serving us were pleasant with a smile. I went safe and got their pork egg rolls and cucumber salad. One friend got their Mapo Tofu, the other went with their Kung Pow Chicken and a bowl of spicy pork wontons in chili oil. My egg rolls were good, tasted rather fresh, not the frozen kind; all-round good flavor. Loved the cucumber salad! The thick cut cucumber was fresh and the rice vinegar (?) was lite and yet enough to coat the veggies leaving a great cooling sensation to my mouth. Two thumbs up. I did try one of the chili oil pork wonton, and I was surprised I was able to tolerate the small bit of heat; I will admit I didn't dunk the dumpling, so take my statement at your own risk. I love southeast Asian "spicy", as you can taste all the flavors of the food BEFORE you feel the slow build of heat. It's nothing like your boring Tex-Max "spicy" where your entire mouth is on fire and you can taste a darn thing! My friends love their dishes, both commenting we should definitely come back and try more on the menu that has even more spice. Yikes! ;D

I am so glad we came across this place. Chilispot has some of the best food with affordable prices. We just keep coming back for more! When you first walk in, there is a counter for to go orders. The restaurants is also decorated with plants. If you are eating in, they will walk you over to a booth or table in the next room. They have so many selections on their menu but some of my favorites appetizers are their egg rolls (crunchy with the right amount of filling) & their spicy wontons. We have also tried a variety of their entrees and have liked everything we have tried. Their spice level is just the right amount and everything has been seasoned perfectly.

I've only gotten take out - either picked up onsite or through Uber Eats. Restaurant is clean and staff is friendly. If you enjoy less Americanized versions this place is for you. Everything I've ordered has been explosions of flavor in the best possible way! My go to's: Toothpick lamb and Storm fish fillet however the cucumber salad, bok choy, cauliflower dry pot, and chongqing chicken are all amazing too. read more

Chilispot has a really good variety of authentic dishes. Mayo tofu, beef noodle soup are my usual orders. They're pretty good quick paced service, and overall is ok. The dishes are plastic though, which is a little strange. The use of plastic wear is a little disappointing. But overall it's pretty good. read more

Ordered delivery a few days ago. The delivery was so fast! The delivery driver arrived 15 minutes early than the estimated time. The food was very well packed. They put the food into a plastic bag first then the paper bag. The food was very impressive, authentic. I was so full because the food was so great. I'll order with them again next time. read more

We came here hoping for some great authentic Chinese food. Full disclosure, we did not have the hot pot. First off the service was a bit " pushy". The menu is pretty extensive and we were taking out time through it. The lady came twice and stood there. But I guess better than being ignored. Anyway, all of the dishes that we ordered ( i.e kung pao chicken, spicy wontons, a fried rice, and a noodle dish)were overly spiced with peppercorns!! Seriously overdone. Best Sichuan food I've had in Ohio. Love the dry pot lamb spine and cauliflower. Always get the cucumber salad and the sliced pork in garlic sauce. So fresh. If you ask them to make it spicy they do not mess around. Great service too. read more

The absolute best Sichuan in Columbus and better than the few places I've tried around Cleveland. Honestly, RIP, but I'd still be saying that even if my dearly departed Hong Kong House was still open. This place slaps. Chongqing Chicken? Amazing. Fortune Chinese used to have the best (the one on Olentangy not the one in Dublin) but they were also wildly inconsistent and "fine" most of the time. Chilispot's Chongqing Chicken? Exponentially better. Dry Fried Green Beans? Killer. Twice Cooked Pork? Perfect (no chunky slices with unrendered fat, this is made with patience!) Eggplant with Garlic Sauce? Best believe it's silky smooth. Lamb with Cumin? Do it. Wontons? Never enough. Please, eat at Chilispot. We can't ever lose them. read more

HIDDEN GEM! This place is off the chain delicious. We wanted to order takeout, and it was a little tricky trying to figure out the menu and delivery in English, but we called on the phone and they were super helpful and accommodating- they answered all of our questions thoroughly and were friendly. They'll check on allergens for you and even honor your requests (for less spicy or an allergy notification) in the comments on a delivery app order- where many restaurants don't even let you put a single comment in these days. It's not cheap but not super expensive either- and the quality is aces, so well worth the price. Standouts to order: Salt and Pepper chicken (which for some reason is in its own section on the delivery app, not with chicken, so look for it), fried fish, won ton, bok choi with mushroom- but everything we had there was delicious and we can't wait to try more dishes. For locals: they have a fried fish dish that is very similar to the twice cooked fish at NE Chinese- but this one has peanuts and different vegetables (more variety, cut smaller) and maybe a little bit more mouth numbing spices and a tad more complexity. I love the one at NE so much and order it so often that my dining companion was actually shocked when I whispered "I think i like this even better than NE..." But it really is THAT good! We were delighted with everything here- highly recommend. read more

I went here once when it was still a hotpot restaurant and I'm so happy it took a creative culinary turn for the better. Bless Chilispot. Hands down, some of the best food I've had in a long time. The spice was REAL which is hard to find in Columbus. The fried fish was to DIE for and I still think about it to this day. It's 03:16am right now, and I am in the EMERGENCY room and writing this review!!! The system requires me to give one star at least! Otherwise I will give you nothing!!!!!! Because they are killing people!!!!! We ordered to-go and the potatoes in the dish should be rotten potatoes. Because the taste of potatoes is very strange, not the taste of fresh potatoes. Three hours after eating, I started to have severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. This is my first time trying this restaurant, but the impression is very bad. After going to the hospital for an examination, the doctor said it was food poisoning. I don't understand why the chef still uses germinated potatoes. I am really very angry! One of my favorite things to find in Columbus is when a restaurant lives up to its five star rating. Oh boy - this place is something special and I plan on coming back to try the remainder of the menu. The noodles in the beef spicy beef soup were cooked so perfectly and the beef was silky smooth. Broth was swimming in spices and had the perfect amount of heat. The rice was sticky and paired nicely with all of the sauces from the assorted chicken we got. The portions are huge and Kung pao chicken was some of the best I've ever had. The orange chicken was super crispy and had a nice sweetness while the popcorn chicken was cooked nicely and had a great spice pallet. The dumplings were something else - swimming in spicy broth. Oh boy - the water refills were plentiful with this meal and we walked out of there with three huge containers to take with us. We will definitely be seeing you all again soon! read more

I've never had Szechuan food so I was excited to try this out. We ordered their wontons, Mapo Tofu, and Kung Pao Chicken. We forgot to ask for a time so we just drove their and decided if it wasn't ready, we could just sit in the car and wait. It was about 15 minutes from our apartment and they were ready when we got there! I was a huge fan of their spice level. It was nice and spicy with plenty of dried chilies and peppercorns. (Those who don't like spice can probably ask to omit these!) The Mapo Tofu was incredibly rich and delicious. The Kung Pao Chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful. This all lasted my partner and I a good 3 meals together (6 meals combined). They also reheated really well! We're definitely coming back the next time we crave Szechuan food. I'm already dreaming about the next time I get to eat their mapo tofu! read more

We've been looking for a good sichuan style place since landing in Columbus 5 months ago and tonight we struck gold. If you enjoy robust complex flavors with a lot of garlic, peppercorn and chilies, this is the place for you. We ordered the water cooked fish ("numbing/spicy boiled dishes - select fish" which included extremely generous portions of tender fish in an explosion of flavor that makes its chili oil sauce), chong qing chicken (like popcorn chicken, but spicy and better), and the green beans (layered ginger, garlic, scallion and salted pork adding to a delightful mouthful). This is the same location/store as Mr. Pot - unclear if it is new owners or a rebranding while dine-in hot pot is on hold due to social distancing. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu! read more

We were at Chilispot for dinner. It's crowded, and we waited some time without any water or food. The restaurant did provide a free cold noodle dish which tasted great. Overall, the beef dish portion was good and tasty. This is in a strip mall which has several Chinese restaurants. read more

I was impressed! Friday night my husband and I decided to try this place. We go go the Kenny Center all the time and have seen this restaurant. Tonight we had a take out order which was Chongqing spicy popcorn chicken and numling spicy boiled fish. Both are very good! By far the best Szechuan style chicken I've tried in the town. The boiled fish is also great! They gave you lots of food. I think one dish can feed 2-3 people. I'm glad there's more authentic food in the town and it tastes great. Highly recommended! read more

Came here with group and reviews among us were very mixed. First thing I'll say is that servers are friendly and everybody is accommodating. The food all kind of came out in bits over the course of ten minutes which was a little annoying. Portions are quite large so you could reasonably get away with one entree for two, or one entree plus one appetizer for 2. I got the popcorn chicken which seems to be the most popular item on the menu. Me and one other person in my group got it and really liked it. Definitely is as spicy as it looks but very good flavor. Only downside is that it is a dry rub so it kind of needs a sauce to really be mixed in with the rice. And both this entree and really most of their entrees don't really come with any real amount of veggies. Other things I tried were the kung pao chicken which was mildly spicy but pretty good flavor. Again could definitely use more veggies. Pot stickers were what you would expect. Didn't try the orange chicken so can't personally comment but somebody in my group got it and was underwhelmed. And as noted in other reviews, vegetarian options are limited. However I would guess that if you asked for a tofu substitute on many of their menu options they could accommodate this. Overall definitely worth a try if you like Szechuan. Just would like more veggies in some of the dishes and maybe a more robust vegetarian selection. read more

Authentic Sichuan inspired menu. The food is absolutely fantastic and made from scratch. I've never had authentic Sichuan style Chinese food and I was blown away with the spice and flavors it packs. One of the owners took my order and he was so genuine, he took his time making recommendations and told me about their recipes. The portions are really big and fun for family style eating. This is a great addition to Columbus's Asian culinary scene. Can't wait to come back, there's so much goodness to try with a menu like this. read more

The Kung Pao Chicken was tangy and spicy. The walnut shrimp was a treat. The creamy sauce perfectly complemented the candied walnuts and huge battered shrimp. The egg rolls were warm and a decent value. The food was ready on time and online ordering was a breeze through their website. One word of caution, it asks you to tip when ordering online, which is fine but when you pay in store there will be a second tip line, which can lead to doubling of tip. Be careful. read more

I'd really like to give y'all 5 stars. Ordered for the first time and I really enjoyed the Szechuan Flavors. I'm a Szechuan kinda guy, so much so my favorite spot knows me by name and my order. Chilispot doesn't just throw a shit ton of chili's at the dish but I can really taste the entire dish and the chili's brings the flavors out more. I really loved the Szechuan Wontons, I've had them else where as well. The Szechuan Clams were really good. However, they were the smallest clams I e ever seen. There were a ton of those small things though. The smaller clams or mussels are just very difficult to eat and the protein itself was smaller than a dime. So invest in larger clams. Your patrons will appreciate it. read more

I'm extremely picky about Chinese food. With a Chinese mom who was an amazing chef, and spending summers in China, I just can't with most of the food here in Columbus. Until now! Originally went here for hot pot, but they didn't have any that day. We split the fish and noodle soup between three people and it was more than enough to fill us up. 90% of the people here were Asian so you know it's authentic. I had to hit this place up as soon as this made the Columbus Monthly's Best New Restaurants of 2022. This was worth the long wait to pick up my carry out. I met a ton of cool people waiting too - mostly international students. The star of the show was the dry fried string beans.They were perfectly scorched and loaded with garlic. The eggplant was drowned in a sauce reminiscent of American BBQ which I wasn't expecting but pleasantly surprised. The mapo tofu was super "schezwany"making your mouth numb and it was exceptionally aromatic. I cannot wait to go back and try more of the menu! Don't come here if you are in a rush. read more

There's a large area with large round tables to right and to the left are booths and almost all of them were full. The menu was a mix of Americanized Chinese, traditional Chinese and included Dim Sum as well. There were a number of dishes we didn't know much about and there were dishes being enjoyed by other customers that looked delicious. The wait staff was more than happy to explain the dishes and/or show us on the menu what someone was eating. They took very good care of us and shared the tasks of bringing our food, filling water, and just checking in. Now the food. The food came out very quickly! We all received a well filled bowl of rice. First out was the string beans, perfectly cooked, not droopy, and the flavors of garlic and hot peppers. Even though the peppers were there the heat was not overpowering at all. Next was the shredded pork with garlic sauce. The textures of the pork and bamboo shoots were a nice contrast and the sauce was perfectly balanced and craveable. The special grilled lamb, I was told, was some of the best in the city. It was tender and well spiced. Even when he said he was full he just couldn't stop eating it. For the dim sum order we got the shrimp dumplings, soup dumplings, scallion pancake, and sesame balls and they brought a soy sauce and a chili oil with them. The shrimp dumplings were tender but the dough was pretty sticky. I think this is normal and they were tasty with some of the oil on them. The scallion pancakes were very thin and gummy, this is the only thing we ordered that I would not get again. The soup dumplings were very small but packed a lot of flavor. The dough did stick together a bit so unfortunately some of the soup did leak out. The sesame balls were the hit and we're just the right amount of sweetness that we considered them desert. They were large, at least 2" in size, with a wonderful sesame seed covered exterior and a soft, sweet center. Chuan Jiang Hao Zi is a wonderful somewhat hidden gem. If you want traditional Chinese cuisine including all the different offal they have it and I would totally try it here over anyone else if I was brave enough. Portions were a good size for the price. I highly recommend checking them out!
