If the restaurant relies solely on text notifications, it might be worth adding a backup method, such as calling the phone number provided or calling out names outside before giving away a table. Because of this mix‑up, we weren't seated until 8 PM, and the hostess never apologized. My friend politely explained the situation to our server and asked if anything could be done to make up for the inconvenience. The manager came over, but instead of greeting us or acknowledging the issue, the first thing she said was, "What's going on?" After I explained, her response was simply, "We are busy." She offered to comp only one drink--even though we were paying separately--and still did not apologize for the long wait or the mistake.
