The encebollado was not flavored much. For the goat stew, I would say is a 5/5. The yellow plantains and the patacones were also delicious. I randomly ended up here on a weekend when they have a special brunch menu. Living in Queens for…read morethe past four weeks, I was really craving menudo, but since this area doesn't have many Mexicans (more Latin America), I realized that it wasn't possible to find menudo. Well, I got lucky here. I wanted to try Peruvian food and noticed on their menu that they serve cau cau. It's a Peruvian tripe soup with potatoes instead of the hominy that's in menudo. The cau cau was delicious. The tripe was tender with just a slight chew. And it had none of the gaminess of tripe. The potatoes were tender and really gave depth and body to the soup. It's definitely a lot lighter than menudo and there's not much acidity to cau cau, but I loved it anyway. They brought over two hot sauces. Both were delicious, but I preferred the spicier red one. I wasn't sure what to do with them since I had just ordered soup, so I started by trying to mix some of the red hot sauce into the soup. It didn't make much difference to the soup. So instead, I would pick up a spoonful of tripe and potato and then spoon on a dollop of the sauce on top. I'm sure people were looking at me like I was crazy ("this guy is putting hot sauce on each bite of soup..."), but it was worth it. It was pure deliciousness. I also got a cup of passionfruit juice. It's definitely just poured out of a container, but it was perfectly chilled and tasted great. The sweetness and acidity went really well with the hearty tripe soup. I'm so used to be offered orange juice, apple juice, or cranberry juice that just the taste of a different kind of juice made it extra special. If I lived in this area, I'd get this cau cau every weekend.

However, they did seat me right under the AC and it was dripping right on me so I wasn't too happy for that but it was a full house. Everything always comes out sizzling fresh and portions are huge so you can actually consider sharing with one other if you don't have a huge appetite. I think I had the Casuela de mariscos which is so so rich in flavour and soup. Loved this dish so much and having steak on top of that? Amazing!! Service was great - our server was attentive and got us everything we needed. Sometimes the other servers don't pay much attention to you but maybe that's just the vibe here. Would still return for the food bc it's one of the best!

We drove all the way out to Maspeth because I was craving lechon and once I saw the pictures online…read moreof Lechoneria New York 1, we immediately got on the highway. Street parking was pretty easy to find, as it was on a mostly residential street. The place was basically empty when we got there with about 2 tables occupied. The menu says one price but they charged us a different price. On the menu, there is a very small sticker that says "prices are subject to change" in Spanish but was not communicated to us until I pointed out the price difference. There is also a surcharge for credit card. Their dish la lechona Colombiana was quite unique, you're presented with a piece of the skin on top of a bed of fried rice consisting of beans and lechon meat with an arepa on the side. The skin was definitely very crispy and flavorful but I really wished there was more of it. The chaufa tasted a bit old, with rough pieces of pork. My boyfriend agreed that we both preferred lechon with the meat intact. It was his first time trying bandeja paisa whereas I grew up with it and had it for many years from different restaurants in different cities. He liked the amount of protein in it, however he didn't really like the overall taste as much. He didn't like that the carne asada was so chewy and hard to cut, not to mention we were charged an extra $2 for it (before tax + surcharge) and wished we had just kept the original carne molida it came with. As for the chicharron, I liked the portion they provided. However, it had the same problem as the carne asada except worse. The chicharron was so frustratingly chewy that I was at war with it for so long before I finally gave up and decided to wait until we get home to throw it into the air fryer to crisp it back up. For context, we ate the food right away since we were nowhere near home so the chicharron and carne asada really should not be chewy at all. As for the rest of the bandeja; the chorizo was juicy and flavorful, the platano was alright (nothing wrong with it, I just prefer my platano maduro to be more soft), the aguacate was borderlining going bad and was probably refrigerated for that reason, the fried egg and white rice was decent, and both arepas were room temperature (this varies by restaurant, but typically arepas are best served warm or slightly grilled before serving - for those not as familiar with Colombian food, it's like eating a room temp tortilla vs a nice warm tortilla - it really makes a difference!). Overall, the meal was halfway decent (good in portion size, OK in taste, bad in texture) but we would've appreciated more transparency with the pricing. I noticed a couple other reviews mentioning hidden charges so definitely heads up on that.
