MUY RICO! I always drive by this restaurant and hadn't had the chance to try it out until now. They have a small parking lot in the back and you can also find street parking: I went right at lunch time so it was a little busy but we managed to find a table to sit at. I ended up ordering chilaquiles verdes and my friend ordered the huevos rancheros, the food came out promptly and looked amazing! We also ordered agua de guayaba which was delicious. The chilaquiles verdes had the perfect amount of sauce and they weren't very spicy, the huevos rancheros were perfectly made as well and came with a side of tortillas. Definitely give this place a try if you want authentic Mexican food and of course support a local business!

I grew up in Highland Park and lived walking distance from Chico's. As a kid, I never got the chance to try it, but I'd always pass by -- whether walking home from school, church, or just around the neighborhood. Now, years later, I came back to visit my small hometown -- which has definitely changed with gentrification -- but I was so happy to see Chico's still standing strong after all this time. And after finally eating here, I understand why. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted warmly by the owner himself -- super welcoming and down to earth. I couldn't decide between two dishes, and when I asked for a recommendation, he offered to combine them: green enchiladas and carne asada on one plate. That alone deserves 5 stars! The food was absolutely delicious. Even my brother, who ordered the chilaquiles, couldn't stop raving about his plate. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with love. The space is small but clean and charming, with a nostalgic vibe that instantly made me feel at home. I'll definitely be coming back every time I visit Highland Park. This place is a gem -- and it's easy to see why it's been around all these years.

Better late than never is how the saying goes. However, I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner, but I'm glad I finally did. If you are looking for good, authentic Mexican Food Chico's is the place. In addition to the tables of happy diners, there was a steady stream of people coming in to pick up to-go orders. The place is small & quaint, and the festive décor adds to the appeal. The chips were fresh, and the salsa was flavorful. I ordered the Camarones a la Diabla and it was fantastic. You can request the level of spiciness - extra spicy for me, please. The Diabla sauce was addicting - I wanted to lick the plate. The shrimp were juicy & tender. The Spanish rice was fluffy, and the refried beans were creamy. Both were tasty. The homemade flour tortillas were fresh, warm, & soft - perfect for soaking up all that yummy sauce. After my meal I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner Alberto, who told me this family-owned restaurant opened in 1991 and he's been working here every day since. He loves his customers and the community, and they all love him back. During the pandemic they asked him how they could help, and he said, "Order food," so they did daily in order to keep this beloved neighborhood gem afloat. Their dedication is an attestation to how good the food is here. The 5-star reviews are legit. *Beer & wine only. *Small parking lot or street parking.

I woke up craving tamales and have before gotten pozole for pick-up here, which was delicious! When I saw they also have tamales, I had to return for more. The salsas are rich and the Cafe De Olla was absolutely delicious. We asked for them non-dairy and it made the coffees even better with the Mocha non-dairy milk drinks. The service was wonderful, we had our food within ten minutes of sitting down and everything was so fresh. The ambiance is very family and community restaurant oriented. We saw some teens sitting alone and enjoying their food, a few couples and families. The place looks small on the outside but it's cozy on the inside. I absolutely will be back and highly recommend :)

Staff were absolutely wonderful and very helpful with menu items and deciding between the 'crispy' or regular Caesar wrap. I love the industrial Italian atmosphere when you walk in. I brought my food home and loved the crispy look of the chicken inside the wrap! I got extra dressing on the side. It's VERY GARLIC-E! Very good but very strong garlic and I'm a garlic lover. It's decently sized which is nice because I was able to save half for lunch the next day however, I did use a different Caesar from the fridge in an effort to minimize my garlic intake the 2nd day. Would highly recommend trying this place! I am looking forward to trying additional items off the menu as well!

Probably wouldn't be coming back again even if a friend wants to grab a quick lunch, I would contest and pick a different spot due to difficult parking and food wasn't great. The J Stilly -for the price of their menu, you would expect the over all sandwich to shine.. They're not cheap. Decent size but not huge. Bread was what put me off. Bread is quite tough and dry, it was missing that bouncy moisture that amazing bread has. Maybe they don't have a great starter yeast? Content of sandwich was good, flavor was there. But the chicken also wasn't great, it wasn't too dry but wasn't good either. Also sandwich was quite wet and dry at the same time, too much sauce and bread sucked that it didn't soak up any of it.. The Spicy P - same bread issue. Since the chicken cutlet was deep fried it help with it from being dry but it also wasn't juicy. Also very wet sandwich, too much sauce? The Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap -this was great, one of the best chicken ceaser wraps I've had flavor wise. Tortilla also had a good chew to it. Since we ordered the crispy chicken one, it wasn't dry.

"Yicha" more like "Yi-naw."…read more I really wanted to like this place, but the experience just didn't justify the hype or the prices. The food looked like it was trying very hard to be trendy and "experimental," but underneath all of that, most of the dishes were surprisingly bland. Not bold, not nuanced, just lacking flavor altogether. For a restaurant positioning itself as elevated Korean-inspired food, the actual taste felt forgettable. The portions also felt wildly overpriced for what you get. Small plates are one thing when the flavor delivers, but paying premium prices for tiny servings that don't leave an impression is another. It honestly felt more like paying for branding and neon lighting than for quality food. And the biggest red flag? The restaurant was nearly empty at 7:30 PM on a Saturday night. In Highland Park where good spots are packed on weekends, that tells you a lot. Atmosphere and cocktails can only carry a restaurant so far if the food itself isn't giving people a reason to come back. I already know the response will probably mention "modern interpretations," or "playful experimentation," but none of those things excuse bland food and poor value. Reinventing a cuisine is fine but .... it still has to taste good.

Dried bread and dipping sauces were brought while we perused the menu. Our food came quick. First was the chicken soup we ordered as an appetizer. It was delicious! Warning - the red salsa side dish is super hot. We tested it first, added a small splash, and loved it. Next was a sliced beef and marinated onion sandwich. It was well filled and really tasty, our favorite of the night. The green salsa that comes with it is a perfect compliment - savory and spicy like a molé, but not too hot. We will order this again. Then came the beef heart, not a dish for everyone, but a personal favorite. Seasoned with a great dry rub and cooked on wood skewers, it was on par with the best yakitori I have ever had. What made it even better, however, were the sides. The hominy was perfectly chewy and seasoned. Mixed with the green salad, the potato chunks, and some of the green and white dipping sauces, well, it was an excellent compliment to the dense beefiness of the roasted heart chunks. OTOH, the salsa that comes with the beef heart, while full of chopped scallions and such, was far too sour for my taste. It was like pure lime juice. I tasted it and set it aside, only adding a few bits into my mix of sides. The final nice touch was the price. Total for three dishes was $40 before tax and tip. We will be back.
