I did like the cured and pickled trout. A lot. And the ricotta toast. The hot chicken sandwich? Way too much breading on the chicken and overkill on the pimentos. Crispy on the outside, creamy inside. Served with a side of house ranch-ish dipping sauce. Well seasoned. 9/10 - THE NASHVILLE CHICKEN SANDWICH. Pimento cheese, house pickles. A stand out of comfort food that just works in this restaurant. 10/10 This place is DOING IT. If you haven't yet, take a second and ask for a recommendation on a great natural wine (which is just wine that hasn't been f***** with too much). Delicious, interesting & unpretentious! We have eaten here twice and were not disappointed. The apps are inventive & delicious - the mains are homey and on point. We recently had the smelt appetizer- AMAZING! We have enjoyed the pork cheeks, oyster bahnmi, green tomato po'boy with shrimp remoulade, and the spicy chicken sandwich. The drinks are phenomenal too! Prices are reasonable and service is friendly. The gratuity is included and both times our server made a point of telling us since the receipt from the register includes a space for tip. I have been following Chicory on Instagram for months now. Their photos made everything look so good... But that's sorta the point of instagram, right? Still I watched the photos and liked them, promising one day that I would give them a try. Well yesterday was the day. I ordered a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, chips, and a Casamara Amaro soda. What. A. TREAT! First of all, the sandwich feels like it is about 5lbs. I got through about 1/3 of it and I wanted more but wouldn't be able to manage a food coma on a Wednesday. The biscuit is house made and buttery- just perfect texture and flavor. The chicken is juicy and seasoned so that the heat hits a few seconds after the bite. The flavor of this sandwich is spicy and complex without being overwhelming. The chips are also house made. Thin and crispy without being greasy and tossed in a southern seasoning. Even cold they were delicious. I ordered the Casamara Amaro soda because I hadn't heard of it and was up for an adventure. It is herbal, dry, and has rootbeer notes to it. It reminded me of an upscale cocktail without the booze. If you want a sweet, crisp soda this isn't for you. If you are hungry and looking for flavorful and upscale food, give Chicory a shot. If you want casual fine dining, Chicory is it. I had the pork cheeks with grits and my husband had the barbecue pork sandwich. It was pricey. We ended up leaving with an $88 tab. They charged us a 20% gratuity. But the food was divine and the drink was really special. It was made with whipped egg white and bitters swirled on top. We also had to wait an hour for our meal which is why the 4 star. The decor is exquisite. Old pine floors, beautiful lighting. Take a trip to the bathroom. The wallpaper and paint color is gorgeous. A promising start -- Olympians, let's please not let this place go away! I'd been very excited to try Chicory since I heard of its opening. Due to COVID, I've only eaten Chicory's food via takeout so I can't speak to the sit-down service yet, but the meal that I got was exceptionally tasty and nicely conceived. I could not resist the weekly lunch special, which was a pulled-pork sandwich with onion rings and slaw inside the sandwich plus sides of smoked BBQ beans and homemade cajun-spiced potato chips. It was a great quality meal for the price point ($15, I believe), and the flavors of the pork, onion rings, and especially the beans were tops. It's clear this team knows their way around the BBQ pit, and I hope those beans are a permanent fixture on the menu (and in my life). Definitely one of the most flavorful meals I've gotten in this town. I'll be excited to return for takeout again soon and hopefully to sit and dine in someday too. We finally made it to chickory, on advice from friends whom we met there. We had such a great meal! Tapas style menu, w prohibition style cocktails. All cocktails looked good, as a table we tried half of them. We had the duck, the clam toast, the sunchokes, the mushrooms, the trout sardines, amd the galette. Was impressed w each dish. Been here twice, first time was a great experience with a friendly and engaged staff, great food and drink. Really high quality. Second time, while still wonderful food the staff was absent. Brought us the food but that was the end of it. No return, no asking how everything was during the course of the meal, and didn't seem that interested even at the end when we said great food... barely an acknowledgement. Saw them on their cell phones tho. Too bad. We spent a good chunk of change too. I don't expect them to fawn over us but geez. I guess when you automatically add a 20% gratuity you don't make an effort? First time we even left additional gratuity, this time 20% would not have been given. Great menu, great service. It's one of the few restaurants in Olympia/Lacey/Tumwater area that delivers a truly good dining experience from beginning to end. Perhaps my only suggestion is that they should keep their menu updated online. At a recent visit to Chicory, some of our diners had limited menu options because the menu was shellfish-heavy and we had shellfish -eating restrictions among our diners. We had checked the menu online but it turned out that it was outdated and didn't reflect the actual dishes being offered. It's nice to be able to peek at an accurate menu online to make sure that the dishes being offered will accommodate all guests. read more

We were a party of 5 and had a reservation (a must) and were seated immediately. It got busy fast and most tables were taken by 6pm. Major complaint.....VERY, VERY, VERY NOISY! For the price and service, could not talk without yelling, so most tables were talking very loudly. The menu is very unique but we needed the waiter to translate most of the dishes because we are not versed in Creole food so did not understand the majority of the dishes. However, we did find that most of the dishes were somewhat spicy. 2 of us have a low tolerance for spicy food. So the already limited menu became more limited to about 3 dishes for us. The food is pricey, but very nicely plated and great flavors. I ordered the hand made gnocchi, it was delicious. Our friends ordered the shrimp with grits, the cold pea soup with lobster (although the lobster was almost invisible), the pork chop and the seafood Gumbo. No complaints, except the pea soup was overpriced, everyone enjoyed their food. We had researched the menu on line prior to coming, but found the menu was somewhat different from what they currently offered. It was explained that the on-line was a sample only and changes seasonally.....huh? The wine menu very limited although the unoaked Chardonnay was very good. Here is the rub.....they tack on a 20% gratuity to your per-tax bill (which they advertise as a service fee). We are normally very generous tippers, but we like to be able to decide our gratuity, not have the restaurant assume that all service is worthy of 20%. Which in our experience was not the case. Our waiter answered all our questions, but not in a very friendly manner....I got the feeling he was a little annoyed and was very matter of fact. Also no substitutions on anything. I was contemplating the chicken sandwich but did not want the pimento cheese and asked for a different cheese and was told no. We ordered dessert, and I wanted the ice cream which came with 3 different flavored scoops. But two were milk based and when I asked for 3 scoops of the sorbet, he said no. I then said I could not order it because I do not do well with milk products. He then said in that case we can make and exception I can give you one scoop.....huh, why can't I have 3 scoops for the $10 on the menu. He said no, but I could have one and it was the smallest scoop I have ever seen for $4. We all decided that it was not worth a repeat. read more

I love this place! We shared a bowl of dressed up Beignets that were exquisite. The Shrimp and Grits were the best thing I've eaten in a long time: grits were fluffy, pillowy, and perfect, topped with bacon, Shrimp, greens and the pot liqueur produced by the combo. Had an early Galentine's lunch the Friday before Valentines, the food was delicious. The parsnips are a must try, they were fried like tostones and came with aioli. My friend didn't like her drink and the waitress graciously took it back and brought back a different one, which she loved. I liked that they had beer as well. Our COVID-19 take-out experience: We were blown away by the deeply scrumptious Cajun flavors at Chicory. Each dish we've had there has been balanced wonderfully between savoriness, sweetness, and acidity. The flavors rich and also subtle. Every dish seemed prepared from scratch and would melt in the mouth. And, the texture - holy moly! We love the variety of textures in every dish. So delicious! Everything we ordered was unique, flavorful and delicious. I couldn't recommend this spot more highly. The watermelon and tomato salad soup concotion was so special. Loved it. The carrots had a little heat and nicely grilled. The starters we're good but i didn't love them as much. The chicken liver looked beautiful but didn't taste too livery. A little bland. This place....I can't even. To say the food was delicious is an understatement. I had the gumbo and my SO the Nashville chicken sandwich with BBQ pit beans. The gumbo was loaded with flavor and the smokiness from the sausage just elevated it to an entirely different level. And it was the perfect amount of spicy, which is to say that I was sniffling about halfway through (for reference, I'm Mexican and grew up eating chili peppers in most of my food). As for the sandwich, my SO said the the fried chicken was *perfect* and the beans were out of this world. But the beignets....the BEIGNETS. I don't think they have them all the time, which is probably for the best as I would be there every freaking day ordering them with coffee. The beignets were otherworldly. I wanted to grab them and have some privacy with the beignets. The look on my SO's face when he took a bite was of despair - despair from knowing that he could never find a beignet that even begins to compete with the heavenly taste of the one in his mouth. And the beignets paired perfectly with their French press coffee; even the coffee was outstanding. The service is the cherry on top. Everyone was kind and very personable. They were also very attentive! My coffee cup was never empty. Also, one of the servers had an amazing pair of earrings and knew what death positivity is, which made me so terribly happy. My SO and I can't wait to go back. I hope they have beignets :) read more

The Nashville sandwich was delicious but it only comes with a side during brunch. The side salad was a generous helping and the dressing was tasty but there was TOO MUCH! It was drenched. After reading the reviews I was expecting more for the money. Too pricey for what you get. And they automatically charge a 20% tip "because they share it with all the staff. " servers are supposed to share their tips. Getting the food out in a timely manner and service at the table are all part of the service. I always leave at least a 20% tip at least, but being required to leave it doesn't feel good. servers are not entitled to a tip--it is earned. Will I go back? Maybe in 6 mos or so.
