Five stars - great We went here after pickleball on a Tuesday night. Because it was late, there were not a lot of restaurants that were open. We are sure glad that we discovered The Westside Tavern. The restaurant is a standard bar. You can order food at the bar, or you can sit down and a server will take your order. Service was a little slow, but it was not slow enough to impact my review. I got the Big Easy burger with tater tots. I had never seen a burger served with a sandwich bun, but it worked out great. The burger is large, so a bigger bun made it more manageable to eat. The burger itself was delicious. I liked the tater tots, but they paled in comparison to the fries (my partner got fries with their burger). We would definitely go here again. read more

Came here on a Saturday, early afternoon. It wasn't super busy...but a little busy. The waitress did not seem very friendly and interaction was very short. We realized that it was because she was by herself. We ordered the Gouda Kale Dip and Philly. The food was mediocre. Some of it house-made, most of it not. She commented to us and other parties that she was working by herself because they never know how many customers will be there for the day, and they don't want to pay to staff just in case they are not busy--and how hard it is for small businesses owners. We totally get it, but...come on. Part of effectively and efficiently running a business is being able to project by analyzing data from previous years and trends for current time frame. The customers should not have to suffer because there isn't enough staff. If anything, consider an on-call employee, or have a manager or owner that is willing to come in and help until things die down. While the waitress may not have been doing a horrible job, it just was not a good look. Going out for people is expensive these days (not just for the business owner), I don't think good service or quality of product should be sacrificed. Otherwise, I can see where this place could have a lot of potential. It is a beautiful space. Some improvement in the food and staffing is required though. read more

My wife and I stopped into Westside Tavern for a late lunch on the way home from Oregon. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Indoors is clean and roomy. There are several tables that can accommodate larger groups for easy conversation and socializing. Outdoor seating is available. There are a couple TVs throughout and a single pool table. There were no pull tabs. An ATM is on-site for those who need to withdraw cash. Happy Hour is offered daily from 4pm-6pm. Food menu has a nice variety of burgers, sandwiches, wings, appetizers and salads. Food and drink orders are place at the bar counter. Ordered items are delivered to the table. Westside had a nice selection of IPAs on draft which happens to be my beer of choice. A full bar is available for those who not care for beer. I had a Bodhi for $7 (hh) and my wife had a Manny's for $6 (hh). We shared the Southern Chicken Sliders for $14: two fried chicken sliders with lettuce, onion, pickle and mayo. I love this place! We live quite a ways away but anytime we're in Oly, this is where I want to go. The vibe is chill and nice, great servers and bartenders and awesome food. Also a great place to watch the Seahawks games. I quit drinking earlier this year so I hadn't been in for a while. We had lunch there a few days ago though and they have an extensive NA beer selection which is really nice. I love all of their sandwiches and burgers and we also love their hot wings (Note to manager: Please bring back the blue cheese sprinkles on the wings!). You can't go wrong here. Service is generally good (3 stars), but can be inconsistent. We've usually have friendly, efficient servers, but there are times when only one server is handling the bar, inside seating and patio seating. Not good. The service can be very slow. I'm sitting at a table as I write this, enjoying my beer, but it's 2:15PM and we have been here 1 hour waiting for our 1 burger. Way too slow!! Ambience is better-than-average for a bar, not divey at all (4 stars). They have a pool table, 1 TV, mostly high-top tables, with patio picnic tables. Good background music. The place always has a nice vibe. Prices bring the review down (1 star). I realize we are dealing with inflation, but they have raised the prices so much that we can only afford to eat here if we share. Fortunately the Super Deluxe Burger, at $17.50 is shareable. They split ours so we each had a nice serving of burger & fries. The prices for appetizers are insanely high. It's frustrating to see how many places have raised and held higher prices since the pandemic. I hope they are passing the increases along to the staff. Today for lunch, we split a burger and each had one beer - before tip the bill was $33 - $39 out the door. Could only leave a 3 star or 2 star, but I give this food a 2.5. My wife had the Hogwarts and she absolutely loved it. On the other hand, I had the prime time and let me tell you, the horse radish quite literally set my nose on fire. Every time I took a breath after a bite it felt like an allergic reaction in my nose. Same thing for my wife when she took a bite of it. Westside has great food and drinks! From the pot pies to the potato skins to the burgers, every food item we have tried has been delicious. I like to change it up and order the speciality drinks and have not been disappointed. It gets pretty busy in the evenings so seating can fill up, but service has never suffered in our experience. Like most bars on the westside, it's always a diverse crowd with a mix of college students, regulars, couples, and friend groups. Ordered the tavern burger and tots with a draft beer. Burger was fine and juicy, preformed patty but still a solid burger. The tots were spot on too crunchy and seasoned and still warm. Service was also great, place was empty on a Monday afternoon but food came out fast and the bartender was nice. Unfortunately the greatness ends with the tab. $9 for pint seems really steep and wasn't sure if the glasses were proper pints. So lunch for two with a shared dessert and tip came to over $70. I am super satisfied with the food and service here. We had the Boss burger with fries, and the beer battered fries are seriously the best fries I've ever had. The burger is also not only delicious, but so big it's practically two meals. I came here very hungry at lunch and I'm leaving with leftovers for a complete dinner. We also LOVED both the hostess and the bartender. Super friendly, helpful people. My only complaint is that they didn't have any dark beers beside Guinness, which honestly isn't a very flavorful or interesting dark beer. But the bartender was helpful in explaining beer and cider selections and ended up blending two ciders for me to create something with just the right sweetness. All in all, this was an excellent experience. Great people, great food. Edit: I forgot to add, this place is super dog friendly. They have a large, comfortable outside patio that has gates that close--the bartender even offered to let us close the gates to let our dogs enjoy the patio off leash. I really love this place: great almost dive-bar w/ an American food menu, spacious seating inside and out and a great staff. There are a lot of regulars that hang at the bar - always a good sign. The wait for Hash was long, so I gave this place a try. Another person recommended the wings, so I got the Korean wings. Next time I'll ask for more sauce, but they were crisp with the chicken itself having flavor. The carnitas tacos were surprisingly good. Tortillas was toasted, pico was fresh - the pork seasoning just needed a little more. As far as the service - Vicky's an angel. There was a clear sign "order food and drink here" that I didn't see it until after I sat down, but she brought me a menu and took my order at the table. This is one of the little sister''s favorite spots in Oly. Her and her bf are regulars and even have their own mugs at the tavern, they are that serious about this place! I loved the chill casual vibe with both inside seating and patio tables as well as a nice big bar with lots of space. There's a pool table, other bar games, and tvs to keep track of the game; it seems like the ideal spot to hang with friends. This place has got the casualness of a local tavern but the menu of a bistro giving you the best of both worlds. We ordered at the bar and then had a seat outside. It was very easy to make friends here as everyone was social out on the patio and super friendly. They had a good selection of gf drinks available including beer, ciders, and wine. Their sheet nachos were also gf and quite delicious. The serving size was huge with delicious cheese covering every corner of every chip, corn, black beans, spicy jalapeno, and yummy shredded chicken. We easily finished off that massive cookie sheet of salty cheesy crispy chips. Definitely a fun place, locally owned, with a good wholesome vibe. I like that the people who work here get to know the regular customers so well and my sister says she always feels safe here because of this. Think I found my late night grub spot. I'm a pretty big fried fish fan and tend to stray away from ordering at a bar unless there are a bunch of good reviews. Well we will not be going back. Not will our friends. We watched a bartender be so rude to other people. It turned us off. We didn't even know them. But felt bad for them as the bartender was a total asshole. Not just to them! But to other patrons. Not cool. Again the food and atmosphere was great sans the one asshole who thinks he has to King Kong everybody. No one likes a bully. It was hard to settle- too many that sounded delicious, but i decided on the Slayer and he went with the Hell Raiser. We both had fries. I'll be up front and say when I first visited this tavern it was only for a Gin Martini w a Twist (a damb good one at that) but after getting comfortable I decided to glance at the menu and I became seriously intrigued! To call this a Tavern might confuse you but dont let it lead you astray, this is no normal "Tavern" and its definitely no dive bar in my opinion. Extremely clean and well laid out for flow throughout the place. If you know the sayings about a food establishments bathrooms telling you the story of the kitchen, well I'm here to tell you the restrooms are squeaky clean!!! As is the Tavern Itself! The staff was very engaging and treated us like we had been there for years! Very delightful and comfortable! If your into beer, well they have you covered! So much so that you can get on a wait list for a mug club you can personalize and make your own! I love the personal touches of places like this, they make it feal like home!! As I stated earlier, if its cocktails your after then this is the Tavern for you, offering excellent mixed drinks at a very reasonable price! Now onto the not expected culinary travel of being at a tavern, all I can say is I was blown away!! We ordered a kinda tappas style happy hour just to get a feel for the cuisine. Thai Fried Brussel Sprouts were first up and were perfection, crispy yet not charred or burnt as you might get elsewhere! We had Thai chili sauce on the side n chose the dipping method rather then having them tossed in the sauce. Perfect accompaniment! Next up we dove into one of our favorite snacks, fried pickles! These aren't your average fried rounds or spears that normly are over battered, no not at all. These are Pickle Fries that are very thin in cut dusted with a light crispy crunchy breading and flash fried!! Best fried pickles I've had the pleasure of enjoying to date! How can you get any better then this you may ask yourself? Well loosen up a buckle on your belt and order the Jalapeno Bacon Mac!!! Not your average Mac n cheese at all, not even close! This one is extremely creamy, full of flavor that is not only balanced and complex but not overly spicy at all! The way its finished under a broiler with added cheese on the surface as if it was french onion soup elevates this dish to out of this world! Ranked in my top three Mac n Cheese Bowls of all time!! Make sure you dont miss out on this! Last but not least we ordered Fried chicken sliders!! Just as with prior items we enjoyed so much these didnt disappoint us in the least either!! Lightly batter, slightly crisp and extremely moist and succulent on the inside! The little fluffy buns of air and accompanying sauce made for an amazing foodie slider! Tavern or no tavern period. I cant wait for us to get back and try the Burgers everyone raves about and many more items on their menu! I'm sure from my first experience, this is sure to be one of my go to spots in town!!
