Voyager cocktails

This is a fantastic local spot. I love how they do food. Unique and flavorful combinations. They get packed quickly since its a small space (even on a Monday night.) plan ahead and make a reservation. We did not and sat at the bar. Its pretty tiny- only seats 4. We had fun chatting with the bartender as he slung out all the drinks. We both had the voyager cocktail and shared the shrimp and grits. The grits were creamy and delish. The shrimp were decent- just a touch over cooked. Its worth following them on instagram to see what specials and menu changes they have. Highly recommend for a classy and unique dining experience.

HOW DID A DISH FULL OF CARROTs change my life?? Ok, that was a bit extreme, but seriously- the flavor combination of the smoked carrots, parsley, pimento, spicy matcha splat, and toasted buckwheat and whipped feta... holy smokes. It made me sit back and look at my husband like I just woke up. Amazing. Attentive server, sweet- answered all of the questions I had. Hubby had shrimp and grits- I tried a bite and that ham in there with the grits. Wow. The IPA is delish. We came early so there was only the brunch option, they close the kitchen from 4-5 to set up for dinner. Quiet. Intimate. Relaxed but romantic. Will come again for dinner!

On a recent trip to Olympia, we looked up places to eat and Chicory came out on top, boasting an interesting menu and tons of recommendations. When we entered during a brisk weekend morning for lunch, we were asked at the front if we had a reservation. While we didn't have one, we were still seated immediately since there were only two tables filled at that point. During our entire time there, the restaurant wasn't ever over half full, so I was surprised about the reservation question. I supposed dinner might be the prime time to visit? At any rate, we ordered two items off the menu: Biscuits & Gravy ($12) - This is a pretty small portion, with a single buttermilk biscuit sliced in half, then split and covered with a ladleful of sausage gravy. The gravy is served piping hot, but like all sausage gravies, it cools down rapidly. It's thick, rich, and quite herbal tasting. There are bits of chaurice mixed in, tender, fragrant, with a of a spicy quality. The biscuit is fluffy and tender, with an interior that isn't overly dense, and an exterior that has a harder crispy buttered shell. The biscuit has no layering, instead breaking apart kind of like a dense cake. The interior tastes a little like flour, or perhaps corn meal? Like dough that's a bit underdeveloped maybe. At any rate, the texture is pretty good and it combines well with the gravy. I do wish the serving size was a little bigger! (4/5) Chicken & Waffles ($20) - This dish firstly comes with a Belgian waffle on the bottom, with a nicely crisped exterior and a fluffy and vanilla-y interior. It's topped with a large piece of boneless, skinless fried chicken thigh. The chicken is quite heavy on the breading (a good thing in this case!) and is fried well, resulting in an exterior layer that's pleasingly crunchy. The breading is seasoned well with a spice blend that's a bit tangy and a bit spicy - they probably use this same thigh in their Hot Chicken Sandwich. The chicken is not dried out but is a little less moist than I'd expect out of a fried chicken thigh. Still, it tastes good and the texture is good. On the side, they give a pile of stewed collard greens. They are tender and tangy with vinegar and seasoned nicely. I feel like they don't add anything in this dish other than collards, vinegar, and salt, which is good but a bit boring. They also include a couple of wedges of poached apples - tender and sweet. Two condiments enhance this dish. Firstly, what they call a buttermilk syrup. This is a thick syrup that's quite buttery, nutty and sweet, almost like caramel or toffee. Delicious on the waffle. The other is a hot honey that's pretty spicy with a bit of sweetness, working perfectly on the chicken. (5/5) Note: Chicory charges automatic 20% gratuity. They do state this on the menu, and the server will also reiterate this so there's no surprise. Chicory cooks some pretty solid dishes. I definitely recommend it for anyone visiting or living in Olympia. Bathrooms - Two unisex rooms

Eggs Benedict..... wow!

Wonderful service and menu, everything we ordered was fantastic! Really the eggs Benedict here is the new gold standard!

Came here for brunch with a couple friends that were visiting and this place did not disappoint. Probably the best chicken and waffles I've ever had and it comes with the most delicious syrup and a dip for the chicken. Biscuits and gravy were great. My friends liked their baked eggs very much. We will definitely be back

Most of the dishes we ordered were quite yummy! The staff were all super friendly, but I have to say my favorite thing about this place is the ambiance. The decor is phenomenally done, super well thought out, right down to a brass (rather than silver) colored metal straw in the mocktail we ordered. Gorgeous interior!!

Squash soup

My friend has been raving about this place for some time now and I finally had the chance to check it out with her and her partner. So good. I decided to try the squash soup because I wanted to see if my taste has changed. (I hate squash soup and I wanted to give it another go.) I'm so glad I ordered it because it was delicious. I loved the crispy lentils that went with it too. I will def be back to try more of their menu.

What a romantic and refreshing spot in Olympia. I love the service and small intimate space. The variety of drinks was great and the food splendid! We will be back!

Beet Gazpacho

Came here for a delightful dinner experience, was suprised at the quality of the food/atmosphere. Live piano music was amazing. The beet gazpacho was a standout.

We stopped into Chicory on a whim. We've driven past a few times, saying "we need to try it out" , this Sunday was the perfect opportunity as we wandered downtown Olympia. Comfortable yet elegant ambiance, open seating plan and a small bar at the end makes conversation easy over some incredible food! I had the Shrimp and Grits which was amazing! It hit all the right spots. Creamy, cheesy, spicy, I was full but wanted to eat it all! My hubby had the Hot chicken sandwich on a giant homemade biscuit. The servings were huge, we both got two meals from one visit which makes up for the little bit higher price tag. Service was quick and attentive. Definitely a place to come back to, next time we're bringing friends to enjoy Sunday brunch with mimosas!

This is my favorite fancy dinner spot, across time and space! Their menu is inspiring in ways I could never predict, and the people working there have a clear passion for food. The balance between flavors and textures is always there. Not to be dramatic, but I always cry at least once! If you don't get booze, it's also more reasonably priced than I would expect from a restaurant serving this quality of food. I hope to come back time and time again! P.S. the sunchoke salad: if you aren't a salad person, it doesn't matter. This is a must must must!

Chicken sandwich

What a wonderful place! Their chicken sandwich was crisply breaded yet moist and tender. You can have regular or spicy. We chose regular. It came with tasty lightly seasoned potato cubes. The shrimp and grits were so good-a nice brown sauce served over creamy grits with prawns so tender. Little bits of smoky ham and bites of greens accompanied it perfectly. The only thing I can say, the Bloody Mary could have a little spice to it -was a little bland. I'm sure if I asked, it would have been accommodated as the Service was attentive, music was at a good level and the decor is charming. We will definitely be back-can't wait to try more of their dishes.

Panisse

The food was amazing! We had a group of six and everyone was loved it. We ordered the Nettle Dip, Oysters, Crab Dirty Rice, Panisse, Chilled Asparagus Soup, Wedge Salad, Halibut, Clams & Mussels, Pork Chop, and Lamb Roulade. Also got dessert- Olive Oil Cake & Kulfi. The drinks were yummy as well- highlights: Mockingbird, Wayfarer, Lemonade, Voyager. Pork Chop was my food highlight- the sauce was perfect- citrus mustard seed goodness. Just dreamy. Super happy with the time spent, farm to table values, kind and knowledgeable staff, ambiance of the space, portion sizes, and unique well-crafted flavors. Will recommend to all, and come back when I move to the area later this year. My kind of establishment! Thank you!!

Handful of small plates available for happy hour with the purchase of a drink. I got the onion burger, shrimp skewer, and asparagus. The burger was juicy and a great size. It also came with a handful of matchstick fries. I really enjoyed the shrimp skewer as well. My friend tried the lobster bisque. The soup was delicious, but it was more of a tomato soup with chunks of lobster. Will definitely go back for dinner some time. They also had a great selection of whiskey. I also really enjoyed the ambiance.

She was pleasant and sat us in the sunshine on the patio. I was sad to see so few patrons. I will review the best part first: THE COCKTAILS: The spirits and craft cocktail selection was huge / the beer & wine not so much. My Old Fashioned was perfect! Food: Seafood Rosé Pasta (bay scallops, shrimp, northwest manila clams, rosé prosecco cream sauce, grilled bread) -- inconsistent cook on the different seafoods & the sauce was meh. Not worth $42.00 Grilled Romaine Salad (white balsamic bleu cheese dressing, gorgonzola, cherry tomatoes, aleppo toasted hazelnuts) -- plenty of romaine, could've been grilled longer / not much quantity of tomatoes or toasted hazelnuts -- basically a "side salad" for $15.00 Lobster Bisque (house smoked tomatoes, roasted red pepper, cream, butter poached langoustine lobster) -- tasted more like roasted tomato / red pepper soup (no lobster or seafood flavors) - there were 4 small pieces of poached?? langoustine lobster on top - I question poached because the pieces definitely had a bite to them. Worth $15.00 -- no. Due to reviews we had the Baklava Crumble (pistachios, honey, vanilla ice cream) -- basically cut up (very chewy, not crispy) baklava tossed over ice cream for $14.00 -- maybe a bad night for this dessert? We like to support small Olympia businesses and will go back for cocktails but the food costs are too high - we don't mind high costs IF we come away satisfied - unfortunately the food didn't measure up to the cost. As we drove away, we saw the "Budd Bay Cafe" was very busy - I think next time we'll have cocktails at Cynara, then cross the street for food and wine. We were intrigued with the "Clam Chowder Entrée" which is served à la minute (Washington manila clams, bacon, cream, celery, roasted potatoes, grilled bread) -- is it a deconstructed chowder?? $33.00 Sorry no pics.

She…read morecomped the food my husband ordered because she saw he barely touched it which was very nice of her so we tipped well. The food was just alright, but I was disappointed with what I got and was expecting more quality for the price. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Who and I was given a plate with a small handful of still-crunchy sliced bell peppers and zucchini that seemed that they had been in contact with heat for all of 30 seconds next to a pile of potatoes that were cold from sitting. The chicken breast was just meh, not very thick, not very moist, not very seasoned, not very much of it. Small amount of sliced prosciutto on top. I just think for $30 this was a ripoff by at least 1/3 of the price; I would expect an actual chicken cordon bleu at that price instead of this quick-service deconstruction. The blackberry mojito I ordered for I think $15 tasted pretty good but was missing the presence and flavor of any alcohol so there was no complexity, just ended up being a $15 refreshing fruit drink. My husband ordered an appetizer (Sirloin Diablo) for $27 and got a small bowl of steak tips submerged in a barely spicy (Diablo?) cajun cream sauce like a soup surrounded by some painfully plain, thin, unseasoned, boring grilled bread. It's not bad or very good by any means and just wasn't his thing, but charging almost $30 for that? At their prices and the way they are presented I was expecting a really satisfying dinner but walked away feeling like I would've been just as happy eating some standard fare at a local diner for half the cost.
