I brought in the documentation for my Echo line trimmer Model CDST 58 Volt to see about troubleshooting an odd sound under the Echo 5 Year Warranty. Although I had documentation that it was purchased in a similar Power Products store...not online, not in a back alley the man behind the counter asserted the paperwork I had was "From a Big Box Store" (oh the shame however falsely attributed) AND was a Chinese knock-off. Further he said even if it was "real" it wouldn't be under warranty because it was purchased in 2022. Here are the facts: Purchased at Red Bluff Outdoor Equipment which is decidedly not a Big Box Store. It is not a knock off, and was apparently made in South Carolina. So I'm thinking you should not be so accusatorial. Your job is customer service and rather than to belittle me. Try reading the paperwork which plainly showed the Five Year (consumer) warranty. Reading at 5th grade level should have been a pre-condition of working customer dis-service IMHO. Happily, when I called Red Bluff Outdoor Power Products they volunteered to look at my trimmer and make repairs under warranty if needed. Dude get glasses and an attitude adjustment. It turned out to be less expensive than we thought it would be, and we left there with a full tank of gas and line already to go. CPE are liars only interested in selling new equipment. I called before bringing my BSC to them and was assured by Pam the manager that there was a mechanic on duty who works on older BSC equipment and that they have a few customers with older BCS tractors they've kept running for years. When I dropped it off I mentioned that Earthtools is the last parts distributor based in the US to both Pam and the mechanic I handed it off to. I let them know when I dropped it off that I'd fired it up but it wouldn't idle. When I returned the invoice stated the following: UNIT IS VERY OLD - This was already known. STARTS ON PRIME THEN RUNS WIDE OPEN FOR A SECOND AND DIES - This was explicitly told to them when I dropped it off. AIR FILTER IS AN OIL BATH STYLE - This was already known. NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS UNIT - Patently false here's the url: https://www.earthtools.com/replacement-parts/ RECOMMEND CUSTOMER INVEST IN NEW EQUIPMENT They did not give me any diagnosis of what parts are no longer working and need replacement. I offered to order a direct engine replacement from Earthtools that takes no adapters just a straight swap and they refused to do the work. I had no opportunity to have my $ I paid for a diagnosis go towards a repair. I don't believe that I received a diagnosis and was charged $90 to be told falsehoods about the availability of parts and to be steered toward the purchase of new equipment. The clear impression I got from them was we don't want to work on this and you should buy a new BCS off our showroom floor. Seems pretty SHADY to me to set one expectation when bringing in a new customer, then not follow through on what you said you could do and charge a customer for that. Very unsatisfied with the "service" I received and would recommend folks spend their hard earned money anywhere else. If the owner of the business reads this and wants to try to make things right I believe a full refund is appropriate so that only my time was wasted and not my money as well. read more

Chico Power Equipment did a pretty classic mechanic small engine repair scheme of telling me my saw was lean scored and need 250$ in repairs. None of these Diagnostics were asked for and the simple tune up was not done. 37.50$ for their opinion. Not to mention the things they said were wrong, were made up. Suggested buying a new saw. Did 30 min of repairs my self and it runs great...wish I bought a new chain for the 40 bucks..broken clutch and fuel line? Neither needed replacing.. read more

Took my brand new ride on lawn mower in for the 25 hr warranty service check which they said, the oil looks good and probably just needs an air filter. Mechanic calls a week later and says it going to cost $230 for the tune-up. 12 days later still not started so I picked it up and took some where else that doesn't take over 2 weeks. Girlfriend brought mower in for repair. Told them had been sitting for many months, now no spark, even after changing spark plug. They said $40-100 to fix. 4 days later they say it has a bad coil and they want $135 to fix! No spark usually means bad coil if the spark plug is good, so I would have expected the estimate to include replacing the coil. It appears they will give a reasonable estimate to get you to leave your equipment, and once they have it, raise the cost to fix. Even worse, I checked the coil with an ohmmeter and it appeared fine. It was just a little rusty so I wire brushed it, put it back and it started on the first pull! THIEVES!! read more

I called & described a problem with my riding lawn mower, asking for repair, described the problem & was told to expect around $200 in repair charges. Picking up the lawnmower is $36, so I asked them to do the work. Took a week for the pickup, they got the mower & recommended a bunch of work I did not ask for, and wanted $575.00. When I balked, the price dropped to $450. I decided not to have them do the work. When I called to come pick up the mower, I was told:"The pickup is $36.00, the redelivery is free. Also there is a $36.00 diagnostic fee." I was never advised of any diagnostics charge; ended up spending $72 with Chico Power Equipment for nothing. I am very disappointed with this company & will not be doing business with them again; have used them several times before, always expensive. read more
