My favorite is the chocolate milk tea with rainbow jelly. I also love the chicken gang jeong and the Korean fried chicken. I always get the Korean fried chicken plain, and its the best chicken I ever had (anywhere). You can order them on Doordash but their online menu is pretty fairly limited. What not to get: STDs from the gorgeous girls at U Pitt and nasty boys not from U Pitt that come here to pick them up. What else to get: Black Milk Tea with Tapioca Balls. What else not to get: Creepy Staring Syndrome with Blue Balls. I've been coming here for what seems like a decade, although it's not been much more than half of that. It was one of the first places I tried bubble tea when I came to Pittsburgh and I thought it was pretty good back then, but over time I realized that this korean-style boba, while being good, is not the best. I would definitely stick to the regular milk tea, as the other ones are a little on the sweet side. The real star of the show here are the Korean fried chicken wings which are still excellent after all these years. I'm not quite sure how this tiny little place manages to make them so well, but they do. Service can be hit or miss with some friendly people and some not at all friendly people, but based on the wonderful memories I have of this place and the excellent Korean Fried Chicken - which we don't expect in Pittsburgh, especially not for such a cheap price - then based on my memories of bubble tea and all the hot people that come in here and the cute branding and what not, I'll give five stars, but with reservations. For awhile, Chick N B was one of my fave things in Pitt. The bubble tea the girl recommended on my first visit was an original black tea and it was yummy. My fiancé and I were in the area looking for a quick bite. We saw this joint and we're super excited as they advertised KFC (Korean fried chicken) -- so we had to try it! We got the Chicken Gang Jeong which were nugget chicken bites deep fried and coated in a korean spicy sauce. The chicken seemed over fried as it was a bit tough and dried out. The sauce was solid full of flavor and spicy, which was the saving grace! For that, it gets a 2.5/5. We also got an order of the Takoyaki, which did take a bit longer to make. Great food, but consider ordering ahead. The locations is small, but COVID protocols are in place. There is a plastic shield protecting the cashier and a wall of stools and tables prevent you from coming within 6 ft of the cash register. (Downside - it was somewhat difficult to hear the cashier) Because the restaurant is small and much of it is blocked off, you'll wait outside for your order to finish if happen to order in person. Mine took about 15 minutes. I recommend ordering ahead of time, especially during winter. I purchased a small order of Korean style fried chicken. It was 10 pieces of chicken wings, cooked perfectly. The Grubhub driver forgot the bag with the chicken and hung up on the restaurant when they called him, so the MANAGER drove my order over to me. Be prepared for this place to get busy, cuz it looks like it's very popular with the students. - Drinks menu. Dudes, their milk tea menu is legit! There are many different flavors of milk teas and a variety of teas. There are also a variety of mix-ins- bubble tea/tapioca, jellies, and popping bubbles. You can ask for no ice or less ice. You can also adjust the sweetness, which I love. I love love love milk teas, but I'm not a fan of it being overly sweet, so I ordered my drink to be half sweet and no ice. That this place allows you to adjust your drink is awesome and I appreciate it. - Food menu variety. They have chicken wings, a variety of fries (seasoned fries, sweet potato fries), tako yaki, calamari tempura, etc... It's a nice variety, but it's all snack food. These aren't full meals/bento boxes. - Food quality. The chicken wings are yummy! Nicely flavored/seasoned and it's not a thick batter covering the chicken. I don't like fried foods that are drenched in thick batter to the point that you can't really find your food. The batter is light and crispy. That also means the chicken was tender and warm. My spicy soy garlic sauce was definitely spicy. It had a nice kick to it, but wasn't overpowering. The chicken was not drenched in sauce, either. - Food containers. As mentioned earlier, this place caters to students. As I mention below, this place is more of a "dine n dash" situation, so their food containers are meant to be portable. Your milk teas are sealed and they give you the fat straws individually wrapped, which is convenient. Their chicken comes in cute take out containers that are portable, which is super helpful. - Layout. There is seating with napkins, disposable utensils, and plastic gloves to help you stay clean when you eat your finger food. Pretty helpful. What's Not - Price. The small order of chicken wings is $10.99, which is kind of high given that you only get the chicken wings. Any additional mix-in for your drink is $.50 each! Call me old school, but I'm used to bubble tea shops that automatically include at least one mix-in. I wouldn't be surprised if you had to pay for an additional mix-in past one, but just adding one mix-in is an additional cost. Not cool. For the amount of money I paid for the chicken wings and the drink, it wasn't enough to make me full. - Portions. It's not bad, but it's not enough to make you full. I had a ten wing box split between two flavors...soy garlic and the sweet & spicy. The soy garlic was less saucy but a great tang with a slight brininess from the soy. The sweet & spicy started off sticky-sweet then a bit of a kick from the spice. They were both great, but i'm gonna give the slight edge to the soy garlic. Came here with my SO for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. We had the Takoyaki balls, the soy garlic chicken wings and Thai milk tea. I absolutely loved the Takoyaki balls since they loaded the top with the perfect amount of flakes, mayo and sauce and the inside was soft, warm and delicious. They also gave a great portion for the price. We both loved the wings too. Crispy, not overloaded with sauce and unbelievably tender. The tteokbokki has the rice cakes, fish cake, cabbage, and cheese for $1 extra but is too sweet for my tastes. I have also tried the chicken gangjeong but wasn't the biggest fan. The takoyaki is not bad though. I am not the biggest bubble tea drinker but the drinks that I have gotten from here is pretty much on par with other tea shops in Oakland. Not too pleased with my most recent visit here. Yesterday, I got the $8.99 lunch special that comes with your choice of bubble tea, chicken tenders or wings, and fries. I got the matcha green tea as recommended by a friend. It's a new flavor and it's pretty good. I chose seasoned fries and enjoyed them. The chicken tenders were the problem. There were two problems actually. The sign on the wall advertising the lunch special said you choose between 5 chicken tenders or 4 wings. I chose the former but saw that my receipt said 4 chicken tenders. I thought it was just a mistake so decided to wait until I got my food. Sure enough I only got 4 chicken tenders. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was better that I didn't get all five because--see photos--they were way undercooked and unevenly cooked. Not golden brown like they're supposed to be but more like a light yellow mostly. In the past, I've tried the wings and didn't really see why people liked them so much. I've also tried their Thai milk tea a few times and it's always too sweet. Service is good though; the ladies who work there always serve with a smile. Got the milk tea with tapioca, which was pretty good. Only complaint was the price (almost $5). Also had to try the chicken wings. I got the sweet and spicy and they were surprisingly good. Uhm hiii Chick'n Bubbly, we see you! I haven't been to Chik'n Bubbly for years aside from picking up, and on Saturday I went in to eat for the first time in ages. Still has limited seating, and the chicken is still really solid (you can choose from two flavors, sweet and spicy or ginger soy), and the bubble tea is still great.
