So I decided to try Chicken Salad Chick in Carmel Commons based on the reviews. I ordered a traditional sandwich with 1 side to go. Opted to not get a drink because it was already over $11 but I did add a $1 for a small tip so 12 bucks for lunch. Let's just say the best thing about it were the Ms Vickie's chips I selected as a side. Not only did my sandwich not look like the pics online but it had no lettuce, tomatoes nor onions much less the celery that was supposed to be in the recipe per the ingredients they listed. Now either they forgot to dress my sandwich or didn't bother to make me aware that if I wanted lettuce, tomatoes, etc I needed to request it. Because I went by the pics I'd seen, I assumed mine would be the same. When I say I am so over eating out unless it's fine dining & that many of these small and/or local eateries need to be ashamed of what they serve & charge for so-called food, it's no exaggeration. Many of these places need to go out of business because they seem to not care about providing quality food & service to paying individuals. Only about getting your money & especially a tip. The food was wholly unsatisfying, no taste or flavor to speak of & not done well at all to be their specialty item. In short, it was a step above garbage--a ball of something they call chicken salad smashed between a small croissant. I'm even more frustrated because I left a small tip though it's not an establishment that is traditionally tip dependent & my order was to go. Needless to say, I am not interested in going back. To top it off my tummy was a bit upset soon after to put it mildly. Given I have so many bad experiences consistently whether this place or others where I'm dropping $11-15 frequently on small size & barely edible food, I really really need to commit to not supporting these places or limit drastically where I eat to those handful of places where I've had mostly good experiences. Chicken Salad Favorites: Sassy Scotty - ranch, bacon and cheese Buffalo Barclay - ranch and buffalo sauce Pam's Parmesan Caesar - this is a seasonal, but it really should be permanent as Caesar goes amazing in chicken salad. The design is upbeat, girly and southern. The menu has a variety of classic, fruity, savory and spicy chicken salads. You can get it as a scoop, on a sandwich or on a salad. The combos also come with a side, drink and cookie. For sides there's more salads like pasta salad or broccoli salad, soup, fruit, chips and probably more. There are a few non-chicken salad sandwiches as well as pimento cheese. So far I've had the seasonal cucumber dill and the buffalo chicken salad. Both were flavorful in their own way and it hit the spot. I've also had the broccoli salad and soup and both were good. It's all very fresh and feels light but you also get a lot of food. I had the basic chicken salad on croissant and it was super fresh both the bread and the chicken salad. I love that the chicken salad was shredded and not cube like. You could also really taste the chicken since the other ingredients aren't overwhelming and they use the exact correct amount of Mayo. While in the area, and remembering I had seen some great reviews, I decided I would check out Chicken Salad Chick. So, something to point out. This was a late day lunch, due to an appointment, so when I arrived at 2:50pm there was only one other person in the restaurant. I was happy to see the staff were wearing masks, signs directing you on how to proceed to order, and tables blocked off to accommodate social distancing. I proceeded to the counter and having never been browsed for a few and chose a scoop and soup, since it was 44 degrees out, ha ha, and requested my order to go. Due to the fact it was just one other person and I my order was ready within 5 minutes. I chose the Jalapeño Holly scoop and a cup of the Potato Soup. Upon getting home I was truly impressed. The scoop was very generous and delicious, just the right hint of jalepeno. As for the soup, they had safely wrapped in the bowl with plastic wrap and put in a to go box with crackers. The soup was good, but needed a little more flavor, somewhat bland in my mind. My son went up to the counter to get a fork for his fruit cup and THREE different staff - one of whom seemed to be the manager - looked directly at my son and didn't speak to him or acknowledge he was there. I went to the counter and the manager walked behind me as she approached the counter to ask "did I need something"? - that's an icky way to address customers and then she gave me the fork. A few minutes later, the cashier and food runner (who also looked at my son but didn't acknowledge him) were cutting up with a long line of people in the building so the manager interrupted her conversation with customers to say that they needed to quit talking and cutting up and then she got back to the customer. It might go without saying, but this wildly popular place is a real chick joint! My wife and I have had nothing but great experiences on our half dozen or so lunch visits, and that was once again the case today. On each visit, the comfortable and cheerful dining area was packed with happy diners. Around a dozen recipes of freshly made chicken salad are available. For around $10, you enjoy their lunch special which includes chicken salad (big scoop or sandwich), a delicious housemade side, dill spear, large fountain drink and an iced cookie. They also offer homemade soups, egg salad, pimento cheese and tossed salads. I went with the Fancy Nancy (chicken salad with Fuji apples, seedless grapes and pecans) on perfectly toasted whole grain bread with lettuce and tomato. As always, it was superb. The broccoli salad is the best I have ever put in my mouth. It has a very slight sweet vinegary sauce along with shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, topped with real bacon bits. The tea is good and the cookie with butter cream frosting is a bonus. I enjoyed it so much I had to buy a second (for $1.50). My wife was happy as usual with her classic scoop. Even though the decor and atmosphere is definitely geared toward women, it doesn't seem to bother the handful of husbands that always seem to be there. In fact, they even have a men's restroom, but it has Chick Magnets on the door, whereas the women's room says Chicks. It has a definite sweet southern vibe. Service is friendly and attentive. Sanitation score is always high (a 97.5 this trip). It is well-managed and has been since its opening two or three years ago. It is easily a Gotta Try. I give it 5 stars.
