Chicken Rico has the best Peruvian chicken period. The chicken is well seasoned, tender and juicy. The plantains are caramelized to perfection. The black beans and rice are delish. Turned around and walked out of one of my favorite restaurants (Chicken Rico - Eastern Ave) this afternoon I noticed no soap and no visible sign of a soap dispenser in the men's restroom! Very concerned the employees handling the food had not taken time to go to another sink with soap to wash their hands after using the restroom. That will always stick in my head so not planning to eat at that location ever again! read more

Fantastic chicken!!! The chicken comes right off the spit, and they cut it up in front of you. I bought a whole one which includes two sides. The plantains were sweet and wonderful. The rice was fried, which was unexpected, but very good. It was enough food for three adults for $18. This is a takeout place. The chicken sells out as soon as it is pulled out of the oven. I waited 10 minutes until a new batch was ready. I highly recommend this place to grab a great meat on your way home. read more

Try this place at least once. They have an authentic approach to counter service and customers are mostly hispanic. A lot of us gringos I saw that came into the place were looking around kind of anxious, but if the locals like it that tells you something right there. The food is not Mexican but has an interesting taste of south of the border. And you get heaping servings of steaming roasted chicken falling off the bone, and hot sides served on the same plate, which you pick out and they serve it up. Every dish has interesting sauce with it. You order and can just point to stuff if you don't speak spanish. They are used to it. Northern VA has a lot of these peruvian chicken places too, but in terms of Baltimore, this is as good as it gets. Get a half of a chicken and the sides: yuca fries are amazing if they are fresh, and the plantains are also amazing if fresh. I think what makes the chicken so good is that the flavor is not just on the outside of the chicken, but it is throughout! My friend and I hypothesize that the chickens must be soaked in a brine of flavoring and sauce before they rotate it in the ovens. I kind of hate to give a lower rating to a Yelp institution, but I truly think that this place is pretty much average. Prices? Okay. Menu selection? Okay. Service? Okay. Food quality? Okay. I just find it okay after two visits far apart. The chicken is cooked well, but the seasoning just isn't my thing. I'd frankly prefer to have some good old Royal Farms fried chicken. Chicken Rico is love...especially when you go there on Valentine's Day. You go through a "cafeteria style" procession line and pick what you want. We shared a platter with 1/2 chicken, 3 sides and a can of soda. Thank God we didn't go for the whole chicken like we originally planned because we would have waddled out of there. The chicken was so juicy and full of flavor - they are not shy about those spices! For the sides, we got the yuca fries (huge and crispy), coleslaw (so creamy and yummy) and the corn on the cob (just eh, needed salt). The mustard-like sauce that came with the chicken was our favorite and we practically licked the container clean. The desserts on display were tempting as well so of course I got one of each: rice pudding and a caramel cookie. They were both nice but the chicken was the star. There were a lot of people doing take out but I liked eating at the restaurant; it was very clean and spacious. This will definitely be my go to place for chicken cravings! read more

I stopped by last night at 8:30 for a late dinner. I got 1/2 a chicken along with fried yuca, and salad for $7.99. This is no fancy place, but it is the ONLY place I have ever had chicken like this that has a grilled flavor in all of the meat. I don't know how they do it, but it is honestly the best flavored chicken I have ever had. The place has a fair amount of simple tables and chairs. They were fairly busy even at 8:30 pm. I went because of yelp and I'm glad I did - I'm planning on eating there a couple times a week now as I'm always in the area. The TVs were tuned in to a soccer match but they kept going in and out because of the thunderstorm. I would have rated this place at 4 stars for parking issues, but the chicken flavor just outweighs the hard to find parking by so much that I've still got to give it 5 stars. read more

This place is everything I've ever dreamed and wished for, and MORE! I've eaten here more than extremities I have on my body, including my hands and toes. The chicken is so delicious, tender and flavorful. It cooks in a large oven and churns over and over for hours. And it comes out like heaven. We always get a combo of dirty rice, platanos, and fries. The rice is kind of like a Spanish Chinese fried rice, but better because it's not so greasy. The fries are steakish and so yummy. The platanos are so amazing. Crispy and mushy at the same time. It's so amazing. And don't forget those mystery sauces that are green and yellow, spicy and creamy. Yummy too. And, it's 10 bucks a pop too worth it. If you want the true first experience, you gotta get an inca cola. It tastes like smarties and cream soda. I'm so thankful I work 5 minutes from this place because it's so amazing. This is a quite good Peruvian chicken place, likely the best in Baltimore, but not quite as good as El Pollo Rico's locations in the DC area. Reasonable prices, too. I find the sides to be a little inconsistent. I love yucca but I think Chicken Rico's, due to the cooking or the seasoning, is only average. The plantains aren't so great, and the coleslaw is just normal. But the chicken quality is very good - I don't think it's quite up to EPR's level, but it's still excellent. Chicken Rico is a no-frills place with amazing chicken. The meat is moist, the skin is crispy and delicious, and the seasoning is out of this world. A whole chicken with two large side dishes is only $14. We usually get plantains and beans. Both are excellent. This is definitely one of the best deals in town. So. F*#%ing. Good. I got the half chicken with spinach & potatoes and steamed veggies. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the spinach & potatoes were not what I expected but I was very pleasantly surprised. I've never had spinach & potatoes like that and I can't wait to order them again. The steamed veggies were not amazing but they're steamed veggies. I also got the yuca fries. So good. I dipped them in the mild sauce, mmmmmm :) Highly recommend. If you've ever been to Nando's and thought that was good, this will blow your mind. read more

I had never heard of Chicken Rico until I visited my friend in Baltimore Maryland. He raved about this place. So my son who is 13 and a picky eater, myself and my friend went there to eat. I am a cook and I love trying different seasonings, Chicken Rico outdid my chicken. that is the best chicken I ever ate and have not tasted better since then.
