It gives like old school restaurant, panera meets souplantation (but not a buffet) vibes. You order at the counter, either with a person or the kiosks and there's tons of customization options. I ended up going with a soup and salad combo and got a half lobster/crab bisque along with a half shrimp avocado salad. Prices were decent, less than $15 for my meal (there were upcharges for some items). I enjoyed my meal and found it pretty filling. The soup was nice and warm and had a pretty good seafood flavor. The salad was fresh and was nicely dressed. I was pleasantly surprised by Newk's and glad we stopped in. It's nothing mind blowing but definitely hit the spot on a long, rainy drive. I can see myself returning on a future roadtrip!

Onion rings are one of the hub's favorites so off we went. The restaurant is located inside an old railroad warehouse and it has a very rustic atmosphere. You can feel the history ooze from the building's pores as you slide into your seat and get ready to take in the nice sized menu selections. I had a few items picked out from different sections and Zyra our waitress helped me make the best choice. We started out with the onion rings with ranch dressing and we DEVOURED THEM! We both chose the blackened catfish and were both very pleased. The fillets were perfectly cooked with nice seasoning and topped with pico de gallo. The pico added some much welcome acidity and zestiness to the dish. I ordered the pinto beans and crispy new potatoes and they were all superb. We enjoy stopping in Nacogdoches and soaking up the history and great food that the oldest town in Texas has to offer! We will definitely return to Clear Springs. There are way too many items on that menu that I need to enjoy!

Good Food, Laid-Back Atmosphere, but Smoking Outside Was a Problem…read more The restaurant has a laid-back atmosphere, making it a comfortable place to sit down and enjoy a meal. I ordered the chicken-fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, seasonal vegetables, a small side salad, and coconut cream pie to go. Overall, the food was pretty good. The side salad was actually delicious! It tasted fresh and wasn't dry like some salads can be. My only caution is that the bacon bits were extremely hard. If you have sensitive teeth or dental issues, you may want to skip them. The main dish was good as well. I especially enjoyed the mashed potatoes, which had chunks of actual potatoes, and the gravy was tasty. The chicken-fried chicken could have been a little flatter, but it was still flavorful, especially with the gravy. The seasonal vegetables were okay, although they were a bit too watery for my liking. I also ordered the coconut cream pie to go. It was pretty good, but I've had better at other restaurants. My biggest complaint, however, was the smoking right outside the front doors. As we were leaving, people were smoking so close to the entrance that I could barely breathe. I kept telling my family to walk faster because I could only hold my breath for so long, especially after eating a full meal. It was ridiculous to have to deal with that just to leave the restaurant. People should not be smoking right next to the entrance where customers are entering and exiting. If you choose to smoke, at least have the courtesy to move away from the doors and the waiting area so others like children don't have to walk through a cloud of smoke. The food was enjoyable overall, and the laid-back atmosphere was a plus. However, the experience of leaving the restaurant was unpleasant. Management really needs to address the smoking issue.

I am a guest at the hotel, and unfortunately, the service I experienced in the café and poolside…read morearea on August 21 was extremely disappointing. After helping our daughter move for school, we returned to the hotel exhausted. We had already had an early dinner, so we decided to have a drink and order a light appetizer and dessert poolside. The bar was crowded, and although three different servers came through the pool area, not one stopped at our table to ask whether we needed menus or anything else. We eventually had to flag someone down ourselves. Unfortunately, that interaction seemed to set the tone for the remainder of the evening. The staff we encountered were consistently unwelcoming and inattentive. It gave the impression that they were simply there to complete their shift rather than provide the level of hospitality guests should reasonably expect. The atmosphere was also frustrating. A toddler was repeatedly screaming at the top of her lungs while a musician was performing, and the child's father made no apparent effort to address the situation. While that is not necessarily the hotel's responsibility, the combination of the disruptive environment and poor service made for a particularly unpleasant experience. The situation became even more frustrating when we accidentally left my arm brace on the table as we hurried to finish our nightcap and leave. Within approximately five minutes of realizing it was missing, my husband returned to retrieve it. Since it had been left on the table moments earlier, we expected that the server or another staff member would be able to locate it easily. Instead, he was sent from the bar to the kitchen and then to the front desk. After approximately 15 minutes, he returned without the item. That experience reinforced the impression I had already formed earlier in the day: there appears to be very little communication or coordination among the staff. No one seemed to take ownership of a simple guest-service issue or make an effort to resolve it efficiently. When guests are paying nearly $600 for two nights in a small town such as Nacogdoches, particularly at a property marketed as one of the best accommodations in the area, there is an expectation of professional, attentive hospitality. Guests should feel welcomed, recognized, and valued. Unfortunately, I did not experience that during my stay. The attitude of the waitress who ultimately served us was particularly disappointing and significantly affected the overall experience. Her demeanor was not appropriate for someone working in a customer-service position, much less one at a property presenting itself as a higher-end accommodation. I strongly recommend that management take a closer look at staff training, communication, accountability, and expectations surrounding guest service. Tipping is part of the hospitality industry, and guests should not have to repeatedly seek out employees for basic service. Based on this experience, I will not be staying here again. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and uses it as an opportunity to improve the guest experience for future visitors.
