    Strawberry lilikoi shave ice
    Amy L.

Fun fact: the difference between dango and mochi is how it's made. Dango is simply mixing rice flour with hot water. My friend and I checked this place at Smorgasburg LA and surprisingly there wasn't a long line. We ordered the strawberry lilikoi shave ice. Being born and raised in Hawaii, I didn't have high expectations but it wasn't bad at all! The shave ice was fine ice (as how it should be) and the lilikoi flavor wasn't overly sweetened. The dango didn't look too pleasing but it was soft and chewy. I could've done away with the popping jelly and added more dango.

Pineapple Dole Whip is LOVE. Visited Smorgasburg last weekend and came across this lovely gem. The mochi was chewy and soft, the whip was cold and citrusy. I can't wait to visit Smorgasburg again to try more things at Chichi Dango!

First time at Smorgasburg and it was a ridiculously hot for a weekend in LA in January. Lots of ice cream options but Chichi Dango sounded like a good choice as it was shaved ice. Literally the best shaved ice I've had outside of Hawaii. I ordered 3 of the Strawberry Passion Fruit shaved ice for our table. They ask how many forks you want so it's great for sharing with groups. The line was long and the wait for your order was long too but it's worth it! All the fresh fruits, purees, and lilikoi were delicious. I loved the strawberry popping boba as it just melts in your mouth.

    So refreshing. Recommended!

Whew went to Smorgasburg on a hot hot day. It was sweltering, and with all the tables in shade taken up by the hundreds of visitors, the gf and I were desperate for something cold. We got in line, took about 5 minutes to order, and then waited for another 5 minutes and had our amazing shaved ice mountain. It's pretty dang big to share between two people, and the dango is great. We ordered the strawberry/passion fruit flavor, and it was excellent. I wish they had more fruit toppings, but other than that, couldn't ask for more. Flavor just pops in your mouth, and if you're looking for something fruity and refreshing, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go. Eat it fast though! Sitting outside in the hot sun, it melted away pretty quickly. Thankfully, they included straws for you to sip up the remaining juice. Even melted, it's cold and refreshing and reminds you of a fruity boba drink.

We had their shaved ice at the pop up, Smorgasburg. What we received it was overly sweet, a bit melty, and messy! The condensed milk on top was my least favorite topping - next time I might ask to leave that off. The quality may have been because it was a pop up and not the real shop. YMMV

THE BEST SHAVED ICE. the lilikoi strawberry one was out of this world. I was amazed at the layer and distinct flavor of every piece- the chewy mochi, the popping boba, the flavored ice, and beans. It was all equally balanced-nothing too bland or sweet. It was big enough to share with my friend. We both wanted to drink and finish the whole thing. Customer service was nice too despite the crowd.

No mochi, no flavor and does not compare to the real Hawaiian shaved ice

Great fruity flavor of the shaved ice but a little cheap with the mochi especially for the price but still beautiful and enjoyable!

It was my first time here, so I wasn't sure where to go at first, but it's pretty easy to figure out. They have separate lines for tacos, burritos, and aguas frescas, which keeps everything organized and moving smoothly. I went straight for the tacos. I ordered two carne asada, one chorizo, and one al pastor. The condiment setup was also really good. Let me tell you, this hit the spot! I loved the grilled onions, serranos, hot sauce, and especially the curtido de habanero,so good. The carne asada was okay slightly on the tougher side but the chorizo and al pastor were really solid. Taco prices are fair, but the aguas frescas felt a bit on the expensive side. Overall, I'd definitely come back again.

Since we were there pretty early there were no lines and seemed like a good amount of vendors were already set up. We decided to look through all the stalls and then decided what to order. We got a ton of things and everything we ordered were less than $15. They included grilled squid body ($13), bbq pork or chicken skewers (10/$10!!), Laos sausage ($5), pandan and Thai tea buns (3/$6), longan juice ($5), Thai tea ($4), beef soup ($10), pandan and coconut jello ($5), and nam khao tod ($10). Everything was delicious! My favorites were the pork skewers (so juicy), the pandan bun (strong pandan flavor and not too sweet), the squid (came with an awesome garlic sauce), and the nam khao tod (so savory and goes great with the lettuce)! All the vendors were extremely friendly and suggested things to try or gave out samples. I think some vendors were missing at the time we went like the pandan crepes, crispy pork belly, and seafood so I would definitely come back to try them but also get some of the same things! It was super cool to be able to experience this because there were a lot of items that I hadn't seen before or as often in Thai restaurants in the US.

My favorite and must have is the grilled chicken thighs! The chicken skewers are well marinated, a subtle touch of sweetness. The chicken thighs are tender, and perfectly grilled. The cost is $3 per skewer. Definitely worth a shot. The crepe is a great dessert option. It is $10 for 3 toppings. There are various topping options, fruits, syrups, salty, etc. The crepe is made in front of you. Another great sweet dish option is mango sticky rice. The sticky rice is well flavored with a hint of coconut, but the mango wasn't too fresh. There's no spot for seating, no chairs and no tables. Since it is a night street market, don't have too much expectation on the cleanliness. Bring your own napkins, hand sanitizer, etc. Vendor owners are friendly and welcoming. Zelle is accepted, but cash is more convenient. There's a free parking place in a nearby plaza. Recommend getting a try for some authentic Thai food in town.

The place is Alejandra's, and the creation is some of the best quesadillas you can get in LA. Coming up to the stand, you eye the menu and make your order, $8 dollars each or $10 for a dual topping type. There is potentially a bit of a wait due to every meal being freshly made on order, but it is a good and worthwhile wait, the staff, clientele, and food being most hospitable. At your order, purple dough is flattened to a blue corn tortilla, each tortilla freshly pressed and grilled in front of you. You watch it sizzle and rise brown, flip over, and continue its cycle to grow crisp. Topping highlights for me include squash blossoms and pork, which is chicharrones with a surprising crisp and crunch better than almost any other I've had, the ring of each bite echoing autumn leaves crunching under my feet, its condensed jerky flavour hemorrhaging in the still present sweetness of a meat once juicy. The stand provides a salsa bar with red and green sauces available, and other vegatative essentials- onion, cilantro, and pepper- serve as a lush and fresh forestry for the surprisingly substantial spice of the salsa to lick upon; piled upon the mountain of food and flavour, the green and red splatters evoked the Hollywood Hills, the red salsa smokey and particularly burning like the fires of last year. It's an addicting taste well worth the visit and short walk to sit and enjoy the meal in Echo Park. I'm excited to come back and try more ingredients for sure, very likely two or three quesadillas at a time to help expedite the process, as it can't be helped. 6.4/10
