Blue Nova serves up some really good flavored organic ice cream rolls. You can jam to the beats blasting from their ice cream truck as you're waiting for your rolls. Their ice cream flavors and the presentation called out to me so I had to grab a cup while I was waiting for my number to be called at Tatsu Ramen. I guess it was my lucky night that I found them parked on side of this shopping center on Sawtelle, across from Daiso. I'm certainly glad I got my dessert before dinner! The black cat coffee crisp is perfect for the coffee lover like myself. It's organic French roasted Arabica coffee ice cream rolled then topped with roasted pecans, chocolate covered feuilletine, crushed dark chocolate coffee beans, drizzle of chocolate syrup, an Oreos cookie, and a s'mores marshmallow. The rolls were cold and chewy, didn't melt while eating like some other ones I've had. $10 for a cup is worth sharing and trying at least once for the experience. The ice cream maker might even bounce to the beat while making your rolls. I can't wait to come back to try the malted Thai tea and the Ube crunch. read more

The thirst is real for this truck. I'm sure there's a real yelp business for them... At least I think there is. I looked but couldn't find them. I have been craving Blue Nova for the past 2 weeks since I've had it. I haven't had ice cream this wonderful for a very long time. The rolls had a very long wait. I was getting irritated cause it was taking so long. And it cost $10. Long wait and expensive?! My sour tune changed when I took my first bite of heaven inside that cup. This delicious little cup of ice cream was worth $10 and even more so worth the wait. My husband wanted to treat me to something for my hard work as a stay at home mom. Me thinking, Babe it's a little pricey...But he said you deserve it with love in his eyes so I said ok. I looked at the menu and decided on the UBAECRUNCH. What a wonderful decision that was. The rolls are made of organic milk. It is thick and really creamy. You can taste the difference from other roll places. I feel that other roll places dilute their milk...Idk and honestly don't care. Blue Nova was one of the four places I've tried and it beats them all, hands down. And to those that think this is one of those fake reviews, it isn't. I don't know any of these people. I am just a dessert loving gal looking to enjoy what the dessert world has to offer. read more

Seriously, I get it. Sometimes it is worth a little more than you plan to pay as long as the purchase exceeds expectation. I love ice cream and found this little gem at the O.C. Night market. I actually had my heart set on trying another dessert place, but when I saw the sign that said "organic ice cream rolls", I was sold. Then the pictures, oh wow. The toughest choice was which one to get. I ended up ordering the Ube Crunch too see what Ube ice cream was like. Super delicious...definitely high on the list of favorites now. The ice cream is unique. It seems heavy when you try to scoop it with a spoon, but when you eat it, it is actually somewhat light and airy. I was impressed with the presentation as well. For $10, it was worth it. It was good to the last bite, even when it started to melt. Can't wait to cross paths with this truck again and try another flavor. read more

Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 - 66/100 After eating at Maruya, my bf and I decided to stop by Mikawaya for some mochi ice cream, but was instead distracted by the Blue Nova food truck parked at the entrance. We ordered the sticky matcha green tea ice cream rolls because the lady popped her head out of the "order here" window and pretty much told us to. My bf always gives in to recommendations given by servers, which sucks, because that's absolutely NOT the flavor I wanted. But oh well :( The workers all seemed like they were having a blast just vibing to the music and whipping up some ice cream rolls for the eager crowd. Great food truck concept! Even though matcha wasn't the flavor I would've ordered, the ice cream rolls were super creamy and the variety of toppings were delicious. I must get the other flavors next time! read more

I've been here 3 times now and each time I got the Ube Crunch.... I keep saying I'll trying something new but I always go back haha. At first I thought the pricing was a bit much but after tasting the quality, it's actually very fair. Also all the toppings come with it! Ugh the organic ube ice cream is just soooo tasty! I love that you can taste some of the "chunks" still. It's not overly sweet like other rolled ice cream places I've tried. The flavor is just right and not overbearing. The marshmallow is a plus, of course! Sooo good. They also put blueberries and mochi on it too. Delicious! Each time I've been here, I've seen the same guy and girl...I still haven't gotten their names but they are super cute and friendly! Makes me want to come back even more. They're honestly the best ube ice cream I've ever had and the best rolled ice cream I've ever had too! I hope they open more locations in the future. If they open one near me, I'll definitely be their biggest fan. read more

Perfect. Wonderful. Delicious. They had a live feed showing you how your ice cream is being rolled. Music was being played while we waited which is always fun. You must show your ticket once they call your number. I've never heard of them but it was really good. I'm lactose intolerant so I'm super bloated right now(ew). So I'm a fan and it's organic. A bit pricey but delicious. Ordered the Rocky Road, it was smooth and liked that it wasn't overly sweet. You can totally share. This place has delicious rolled ice cream! The rolled part of the ice cream is cool - but honestly, the ice cream itself is yummy and creamy with great texture. I'm not a huge ice cream person, but I would come back to get this one. We got order #1 (the cookies and cream one). It's on the pricier side for ice cream ($10), but I think it's worth it. Amazing organic ice cream but a bit expensive. Each cup was $10 but it's definitely big enough to share for two people. I highly recommend the strawberry crumble. Their schedule is a bit inconsistent (read: they don't have a schedule at all). But they do work festivals and events so you might see their truck around. The truck was parked right outside of the Little Tokyo plaza when I tried it, but there's no guarantee they'll be here. read more

Meh, if your a chocolate lover like me I'd skip this place. I love eating organic so I was excited to see this food truck. I could taste the quality I didn't care for the flavor, it just wasn't rocky road. I got the rocky road version and honestly it tasted like vanilla with nesquick sprinkled on it. Didn't have any chocolate taste to it besides the chocolate syrup. It came with some wierd crunchy things that tasted like coffee, 1 oreo and 1 crushed almond. Everything just didnt pair well and definitely didn't taste like any version of rocky road. Also wish they had a butane toarch and toasted the marshmallow, because I didn't care for it gooey like that. The truck looked clean and it was cool watching my ice cream roll being made. $10 per flavor and street parking thru out the area. read more

Bought the Rocky Road for my kid. It's quite pricey, but sometimes you gotta treat yourself. I like that it's organic, but wished they had some sort of non-dairy and/or lactose free options. Overall it was a fun novel experience. read more

We noticed this truck, when we were walking to have ice cream at salt and straw and decided to have this ice cream instead. They have a live feed where you can see your icecream being made which is cool. Good music. They had around 10 options to choose from. Staff is really friendly. I was not really pleased with the roll itself. Maybe I'm just too picky but for me there was a lot of cream. Felt it was just like the milk cream and very little flavor. I feel it's worth trying if you never had ice cream Rolls but I wouldn't be trying this one again. Just my personal preference. read more

Yes!!!! I'm not usually a dessert person but I had the Speculoos ice cream rolls and I was hooked! We randomly found the truck at midnight and the workers were so friendly! This truck is a must try. It's $10 a cup but I think it's worth it - quality is there and you can tell a lot of the things are made-in-house (like their marshmallows). I always think with simple concepts, like ice cream, you should use the best ingredients and Blue Nova does just that. The ice cream rolls are to-die-for! P.S. I also liked that the 3 female workers were jamming out to hip hop music. So awesome! read more

The price is worth the amount you get, the presentation, and the quality. The price is REALLY worth it if you share. The watermelon is absolutely divine. And at this juncture, Yelp is telling me, "this review is shorter than most." I cannot stress enough the destructive power of comparisons. Sure this review is shorter than most, but maybe the quality far surpasses any other, or maybe this review had a really rough childhood and this is all the rhetoric it could muster. See now this review is no longer shorter than most, but I misused the word "rhetoric." So even though it now compares to other potentially equal value reviews, it's not perfect. It has issues. This is the problem with today's society. We're not examining the individual close enough; we blanket-statement mental disorders, celebrities, and tragedies with what we think we know now; because we're too lazy and scared to make a change. We're forgetting that everyone and everything is unique and requires a special kind of attention. See now yelp is saying, "oh yeah! That's how elites do it!" Of course they're not aware 90% of this review isn't about the ice cream truck. It's a disconnect from a REAL interaction, like talking on tinder or scrolling through Facebook to "stay connected." At the start of this review I was simply a consumer of a delicious bowl of sugary wonder... a starry eyed child waiting for his next spoonful of frozen magic. But now I don't know. I feel like I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. Maybe I'm jaded. Is it hard to appreciate the beauty of joy because I'm distracted by people who seem to enjoy it more? Or am I just distracting myself with my own analysis of how one SHOULD enjoy ice cream. Maybe I'm in denial of the new world... and it is "I" who needs to embrace change. Maybe I'm disconnected. The vibe of this ice cream truck is super hipster. I like that there are tv screens to show how they make each order. The music is always good too! Customer Service was on point and our order only took 10 minutes. The Thai tea flavor was AMAZING! Hands down one of the best Thai tea ice cream I've ever had. The rolls are huge and creamy! It's the perfect amount of sweet, especially paired with the tart from the mangoes. The added marshmallow stick was delicious! read more

I first found out about this place from Facebook, I think because I remember this truck is known for having a guy dancing and entertaining everyone while making the ice cream! But sadly that guy wasn't working when my friend and I came but the people working were still super nice. We told them to dance and they didn't but its okay, they still played some good music. My friend and I shared their spectacular speculoos and it was super good! It came with a speculoos cookie, mochi, and a toasted marshmallow with chocolate chips in it! We really enjoyed it. all I can say is dammmmm there ain't no reason for an ice cream truck to be this lit!!! Out here. This is such a great concept and ice cream truck bumping crazy hip hop and trap music , working to the beat and shaving up the thinnest slices of ice cream. I got the cookies and cream and it was phenomenal so creamy and sweet. The thin swirling in my ice cream was so perfectly done. The Oreo cookies on top mixed with the ice cream was heat and the marshmallows has chocolate powder and chips in side of it was heat this is truly a hidden Gem among desserts spots and even better a food truck that serves all this stuff . They had different choices of ice cream combinations as well but I went simple for now just to see how it was for the most part . All I can say is next time I'm in lil Tokyo I'll be keep my eye out for this joint. read more

First time ever in Little Tokyo and let me say it was a really nice experience. Leaving we found Blue Nova parked on the main street we had to stop and order, the music is ur typical radio hip hop stuff (drake, migos, lil this and lil that). The workers early enjoyed it though because they start dancing behind the glass which is entertaining, I really enjoyed the experience of watching deliciousness come to life! If I'm ever around I will stop by just for this! read more

The best part of blue nova is that the workers look like they're having fun. They have a lot of interesting curated flavors, from thai tea, to ube, or more classic flavors. While the rolled ice cream is good, it's very expensive and hard to scoop. Overall vibes are fun, ice cream is interesting, expensive but you get a lot. read more

Love the idea! Truck looked clean and the staff were courteous and pleasant. I really wanted to like this ice cream. The marshmallow was fabulous but the Cookies & Cream tasted so much like powdered milk I couldn't eat it. Not sure what ingredients are actually in the ice cream (nothing posted anywhere) but it tasted distinctly like spoonfuls of powdered milk. :-( read more

First time try this, we got the strawberry honey crumble, it is so good. Not too sweet, and it is the perfect dessert after sushi. The people work there are super friendly. Moreover, you can see how your ice cream is made. My 8 years old thinks this is a very good and milky ice cream. We will definitely go back again. read more

If I could give a 0 star I would. Just tried them at the 626 night market, got the watermelon ($12) waited a lil over 50 minutes for something i did not order. The water melon is basically slices of water melon rolled into water melon ice cream and I got soggy watermelon rolled into plain white condensed milk ..which was not on the picture .. never again, and not worth the wait or money.. read more

This last time I opted for the split scoop waffle cone. For the top I chose the Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge and the bottom, the Bananas Foster with Candied Pecans. It was delicious! Such intense flavors! The favorite of the two was definitely the Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge. If you're a peanut butter lover, this is the one for you! They also have some pretty awesome merch to purchase as well and the Tacolate collaboration with Taco Bell is a must the next time I go. They also had Tacolate sauce pack keychains to purchase too! Service was also great as the person was extremely patient as the family was sampling their wide array of options. The kids were loving every moment too! Will be heading back soon for another treat! I understand that it may have been a busy day and that staff can get tired, but the interaction felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. This was especially unfortunate because I had just finished a 13-hour shift and wanted to celebrate my daughter's first-place achievement. Instead, the experience did not reflect the positive atmosphere we've previously enjoyed. I'm hopeful this was just an off night, as this location has otherwise been a place I've enjoyed visiting.

Still love McConnell's overall, but they should be a little more honest about when a flavor isn't quite ready yet.

I wouldn't go back to DTLA just for ice cream, Long Beach Creamery being walking distance and wonderful, but I would absolutely stop here if I were back in DTLA and wanted ice cream. It's a bit pricey, but all craft ice cream is going to be, and it is definitely craft. And you can save a lot by getting a 3-scoop, which is very much enough to share for two people, if not slightly too much.

Anyway, I was so happy to see Somisomi so busy. My friend and I stayed in line for 20 minutes before we were able to place our order, we had only 10 minutes to spare before our tickets at the Aratani Theatre. We wanted to have the milk and 8-bit boysenberry swirl soft serve in a cup. Unfortunately, we realized that we had to decide between possibly not being led into our reserved seat at the theater or missing out on this delicious dessert. It was just a matter of not realizing how long it would take. I don't blame Somisomi because they had a huge number of ahbong to make fresh, and of course, there was no way to cut in line We ended up telling the lovely staff that we had to leave, and to please give our orders under "Coco" to someone for free so it wouldn't be wasted. I'm sure it would've been tart and delicious!! The staff were working hard and very patient. They sometimes had to call names three times to get a response for adding toppings.
