We called and made an appointment, and was given a 2 hr window for their arrival (9 to 11). The tech called at 9:30, said he was 30 minutes away... He finally arrived at 1:15PM. We had to call and ask what was going on multiple times, only to be told he's only 5 minutes away each time. When he arrived, he quoted us significantly more to fix a leaky faucet and a clogged drain than what the representative had said was their maximum. Also, didn't know how to turn on our shower. We ended up thanking him for the estimate, and continuing our search elsewhere. After having 4 other plumbers fail to figure out why our first floor toilet line was filled with gravel and wasn't draining properly, Brett's patience allowed us to solve the mystery. A prior contractor had installed a toilet for us a year ago. A week later it wasn't draining properly. A prior plumber tried to use a rooter to get the rocks cleared out of the line. Unfortunately the rooter got stuck. That plumber jack hammered through the floor and cut through pipe to retrieve his equipment. He never solved the problem. We couldn't use the toilet for the past year because the gravel returned. Recently we heard rats under the floor. I was pretty sure they were in the sewer line. Brett came and reopened the line in the same place the prior plumber did. He saw lots of gravel. He used a hydro-jet to move as much of the gravel down the line as possible. He sent the camera down the line. It was clear the rocks were still coming into the line but there was no break in the pipes. His patience allowed us to figure out that we needed to see more of the line to the right of the toilet at the start of the line. He dug that up and low and behold, he discovered that the end of the pipe terminated without a cap. It had been installed with just duct tape at the end letting gravel into the line. Rats hand been hanging out there and likely dragging rocks into the line too. Brett's jackhammering and hydrojetting scared off all the rats and cleared all the gravel and he was able to cut off the old line and replace and properly cap it. Brett has a tremendous work ethic. At various points he was lying in a pit filled with sewer water reattaching our pipe and never complained. He was so polite and maintained a sense of calm and a sense of humor. He was willing to listen to us and help us take time to investigate the line to figure out the issue. He is a terrific human being with unparalleled work ethic. Our hot water heater went out in September, 2020. I called Chicago Sewer Experts and a guy named Adam came out. I paid $1,295.00 for a new hot water heater. It had a one-year labor warranty and a 12-year parts warranty. In January, the new hot water heater failed. Adam came back out. Although the heater was only 4 months old, he insisted that I pay him--a personal check made out to HIM, not the company. He couldn't figure out what was wrong and left. The next day he was back and took the unit to Home Depot and swapped it out. He installed the new unit, and then wanted a check for $300--made out to him. I didn't have that much, so I told him I would pay him $100--just to get the new heater and get rid of him. I wrote him personally a check for a unit that was clearly under warranty. As a parting shot, he said that he would never, ever come back out, regardless of any company warranty. In summary, Adam shook me down for $100 for a hot water heater that was only 4 months old and under warranty. He vowed not to honor the warranty in the future. There is no way on earth that I will do business with this company again. BUYER BEWARE! read more

I struggled with leaving any remarks regarding my experience with Chicago Sewer Experts, but I can't get pass this experience. After contacting the company we scheduled for Tuesday at 11:00am. On Tuesday, Brian called (about 8:45am) and asked if they could come early. I happily agreed, well Gabriel did not show up until 11:45am. When he arrived he really did not check anything. I mistakenly showed him the video of the sewer water back up I experienced and he started some small talk, but never looked in my drains, didn't check the plumbing (i.e., flush the toilet. I literally asked, "are you going to check the drain to make sure there is not blockage?" he shined his flashlight from a barely crotched position and said, "do your toilets flush, if so then there's no problem". He then started throwing out costs, so of course I asked if I would have a written quote. Gabriel went to his truck for about 5-7 mins and then asked me to come outside so he can show me what they would need to do. Let me say that my home is 1248 sq ft. My chimney stack sits about 1/2 in the middle of my home, Gabriel told me that from the chimney stack to my grass area in front of my home is 52 ft. Nope, I am having a fence installed tomorrow that is the entire length of my backyard and it is 52 ft. Secondly, he seemed to be pulling numbers out of the air and this quote that he left me does nothing to support his "estimate"...hold on to your pants: "to haul away dirt and install double check valve with pit and sewage pump $14,000 and then overhead sewer is putting a basement pit and hook up with the wall outside 21ft then clay pipe approx 52ft ($21,000)". I am really curious where Gabriel came up with these measurements and costs. Anyway, I have had 2 other companies come out and no one has come even close to either of these outrageous estimates and yes, both companies have 5 stars on Yelp. Maybe if he actually pretended to look around the basement, he would have discovered that there is a sewer drain at the front end of the basement, eliminating the need for the type of digging he suggested, both of the other companies noticed the drain, asked me to flush the toilet, got on their knees and looked in the drains and finally suggested it was a much more effective method to work from the front drain to stop the water from the street. I'd said I was tentative for the next day, and they followed up the next morning to see when I was available. After their scheduling team gave me a window of availability, Ed called exactly at the start of that window to say he'd arrived. Once in the bathroom, he was able to provide an estimate that was well within the range we'd been quoted by others for the leaking toilet. He assessed the situation quickly, and ran out to get an additional part for the toilet repair. He made the repair quickly and professionally, being careful to lay down plastic for debris, and cleaning up all garbage when he was done. He then walked me through what he saw, a couple other things that could be addressed in the future, and provided some recommendations on a low cost toilet option if we wanted to upgrade, and the cheapest way to get it installed. After struggling to get anyone to help us out and a failed repair attempt from a different company, Chicago Sewer Experts had the whole thing handled in under an hour, and provided great customer service. On a Sunday (of course) I was at the grocery store when my wife called me to tell me every homeowners worst nightmare... the carpets in our basement were soaking wet. I called every company I could find and Brandon at Chicago Sewer Experts was the first to get back to me (well actually not the first, I had a guy at a company I had previously hired tell me it would be $650 minimum for him to come out and that there was a high probability he would charge me that much and not be able to do anything). He quickly got to work, found the problem (burst pipe in the walls) and one trip to the Depot later it was fixed, with extra insulation to protect it from the Chicago winters and a new shut-off installed so we could keep the line free of water during the colder months. He was very reasonable and transparent with the pricing every step of the way, and also gave me a great recommendation for a restoration company that would work with me to make sure the house would be restored to its original condition before the water damage and that there would be no mold or rot in the walls. If there was an option for zero stars this would warrant that. TLDR; They do not care about the quality of work, or getting the job done. If they break something at your place it will be at your expense and even if it isn't they will not remedy the situation. Had Brandon from A-1 Sewer Experts come out on 6/18/21 for an estimate to fix a corroded pipe among other things. I paid him half the cost ($933.40) that day and he came back on 6/22/21 to do the work. The job took much longer than expected but they completed, and I paid them the remainder of the cost ($933.40). I had not moved into the unit yet, so when I went back next, I realized that the part of the pipe they had replaced was leaking. I tried to reach out to the technician directly but had to go through the office once I was ignored. After two missed appointments Brandon finally came back out on 7/8 and slapped on plumber's glue and applied some spray hoping to stop the leak. The leak hasn't stopped, it got worse, but I was not even able get in touch with anyone at the office on 7/16/21. I called the office for four days and they would tell me someone will come out, but no one ever calls or shows up. The last two times I was accused of not picking up their calls or replying to their text messages when they never reached out and were calling and texting the wrong number. I spoke with Adam (supposedly a supervisor) on 7/15 who assured me someone would come out and once again no one showed or called. Finally got in touch with Anthony (Brandon's apprentice) on 7/16 who told me there has been issues with scheduling and that they would come out on 7/21. I confirmed with Anthony on 7/20 that him and Brandon would come out the following morning, but no one showed after they confirmed being on their way at 9:17am on 9/21. It is now 7/26, over a month since they created the leak and it is still not fixed, not do they seem to care to fix it either. read more

Don't waste your time with this company. I had an emergency leak that caused damage and informed them of this. They scheduled someone to come out to inspect and fix the leak the next day at 3pm. That morning, someone called and said that they couldn't uphold their 3pm schedule because everyone was busy fixing "emergency issues". So essentially, they skipped over my job which I told them was urgent... Fine. So the guy asks if he can instead come by the next day at 9:30am. I told him that it was urgent and he said he understood. The next day comes and no call or text. I called him and no answer.
