Head and shoulders above the rest. This was a challenging job: a tiny apartment, lots of moving parts. First, I doff my hat to Octavian, who won me over with his expert advice and wise counsel. Of the four company heads who showed up at my home to give me their respective quotes, Chicago Flooring Innovations was the only one that alerted me to the class-action lawsuit against Lumber Liquidators being bruited about with respect to its Morning Star bamboo floorboards, which my previous contractor had recommended, 20 cases of which had been "acclimating," not to mention off-gassing formaldehyde, at my place for well over a year. I find that sometimes it pays to procrastinate. In the end, I had to cut my losses and scuttle the bamboo to the tune of $1000, but it was the sound decision to do it right the first time, rather than risk the chance--however minuscule--that the bamboo might someday wildly contract or expand, requiring a costly do-over. Octavian was the sage, constant voice of reason throughout my verbose, flippy-floppy, often quippy decision-making process with respect to everything from the choice of the new floorboards to the design elements that didn't work for me. He bent over backward to make everything right. I appreciated his literate, frequent, and thorough communications, including his itemized project estimate. Now, to the rest of the well-oiled machine that is CFI: George is a consummate expert installer with a keen eye for detail and a real asset to the company in my opinion. Michael, his assistant, was very sweet and cooperative. Last, but not least: I found Daniel, who I presume is the project manager and Octavian's business partner, to be preternaturally perceptive and thoughtful. He always somehow knew precisely the right thing to do to change the course and pace of the project when I needed to take a breath and regroup when things seemed unwieldy to me. (FYI: (a) I was, and still am, a keenly involved and high-maintenance client; (b) the constant barrage of sawdust was totally kicking my butt [cancer, anyone?]; and (c) things can get very chaotic and very dusty very quickly in a very small condo.) The result is stunningly beautiful. CFI worked harder than its competitors to earn my business, and it deserves heaps of praise for exceeding all my expectations. read more

Of the three contractors I contacted to replace the hardwood floors in our condo, Octavian at Chicago Flooring Innovations was the most responsive and professional. He arrives when we says he will and replies quickly to emails; his pricing was very reasonable; and his expertise was evident from the first meeting. Hats off also to the project team led by Daniel for doing an excellent job with the install and completing it even faster than scheduled. They were very respectful of our belongings and we only needed to do minor cleaning after they finished - very minimal dust. They even placed pads under the legs of furniture that needed them! Octavian advised me on the type of flooring that I should get and even picked it up from the store for my project. He was very nice and easy to work with, yet assertive when it came to explaining his point of view as a flooring specialist. My floors were damaged by water when I was on vacation. I replaced them with Kahrs Oak Stone flooring provided by Chicago Flooring Innovations. Daniel was knowledgeable, responsive, and his team did a high quality job. In a stressful situation, I was impressed that he always responded to emails or text messages almost instantly. I had a lot of questions about the process. Also, he was great about proactively communicating status and even texted pictures during the day. The work itself was done professionally. I got quotes from 4 different flooring companies and ultimately chose Chicago Flooring Innovations based on online reviews. The project involved sanding and restaining existing hardwood floors in my condominium. The project was completed in two stages.There are a lot of bad flooring companies out there...unfortunately I have had experience with some of them in a rental property used to own. I was very pleased with Octavian and Daniel and the rest of the crew and here is why. 1. Octavian was always available and responsive via text/cell. 2. His crew was very hardworking and respectful of my home and my belongings. 3. His crew moved my furniture - and they were very careful with everything. I have antiques and some valuable items - and they treated everything with kid gloves. (I wish I could say the same about the painters that came in afterwards.) 4. We ran into a snafu towards the end of the project...one section of floor (which was installed at a different time then the neighboring rooms) didn't grab the stain the way. It was sort of splotchy. Octavian agreed (as opposed to given me some conversation that it really wasn't splotchy blah blah). They redid that section twice until it was right. Given that the entire apartment was perfect first time through - I really do think it had something to do with the flooring itself and not that the crew was getting sloppy or hurrying. 5. Octavian had warned me that will they use "dust free" equipment there would still be dust. Frankly - they taped things off so well - there was a little but nothing to get too upset about. Far less than I had expected. 5. I am thrilled with my floors and would recommend and use this company again. read more

Our journey with Chicago Flooring Innovations has been unique. In the end, the company and its principal Octavian have exhibited true integrity and professionalism that is rare in companies today. The floors in the home we purchased were in bad shape and after several attempts, Octavian's crew wasn't able to salvage them. Unbelievably, Octavian offered to replace them (rare and kind!) with high-end bamboo floors his other customers had found to their liking. We soon learned that our installation as floating floors, which was guaranteed by the manufacturer but was a first-time installation for this type of floor for Octavian's crew, was not conducive for these floors. Octavian investigated and learned that other homeowners nationwide with the floating installation experienced the same gapping and cracking that we did. After trying to rectify the situation to no avail, Octavian went way above and beyond. He allowed us to choose floors, virtually any floors, we wanted and installed them. I have a feeling we did not choose inexpensive floors and Octavian absorbed the expense just to do what is right. We are super appreciative. Knowing who to trust is difficult these days. YOU CAN TRUST CHICAGO FLOORING INNOVATIONS. They could have walked away and didn't. Octavian's crew told me they are treated very well and are very happy... and that is telling. I bought a new home that, unfortunately, had floors that were almost as shiny & orange as a basketball court! Now, they're a BEAUTIFUL, warm, satin, dark brown (I went with Jacobean Loba Supra). I will note btw that I am highly sensitive to chemicals and this finish worked for me at a VOC of 79. They were very flexible with scheduling and completed the work on the day promised. My husband and I could not be happier with Octavian, his crew, and their outstanding work on our floors. We purchased a new condo where the floors were dark red and dreary. Octavian and I exchanged emails and agreed on a price and aggressive timeline so that the floors would be done before our moving van arrived. Octavian met us at the condo 30 minutes after we closed on the unit! We decided to sand and finish what turned out to be red oak engineered wood, leaving the red oak veneer completely natural. His crew arrived the next day before our furniture arrived on the moving van, thank goodness. The job turned out to be much more difficult than we anticipated due to the quality of the flooring. Even though it took more time and effort from the crew than Octavian initially estimated over email and before seeing the floors, he honored the estimate, even correcting us when we made the check out for a higher amount. The floors turned out to be beautiful and look more expensive than the cheap old darkly stained floors; the grain shows beautifully along with the natural color variation.
