"Professional!" For our rather small remodeling project we interviewed a few general contractors. Independently and unanimously they described Roberts Flooring Services in one very valuable and well-deserved word: "Professional!" I have a friend who had new floors installed by Robert in her rather large house and she was very pleased with the work. Her recommendation, along with that of the general contractors and Roberts' strong reviews, was enough for me. We hired Roberts. In the process of working with RFS Robert was very responsive, patient, understanding and accommodating. He came to our house a few times to show different samples of woods and colors and prepared estimates for different options. Robert is very familiar and experienced with various American and European manufacturers of stains and finishes, both oil based and water based, and with various treatment of wood. The new red oak was delivered by RFS's supplier, who has a climate-controlled warehouse. The supplier said "No good wood-no good floor." Robert organized the work in stages: preparing our existing red oak floor for feathering (day 1: it took 3-4 hours); installing the new red oak (day 2: 8 hours); sanding, staining and applying two coats of finish (days 3 and 4: about 12 hours). Robert himself came to our house every morning before work began to supervise but it was not necessary for him to stay long because his teams are well-trained and proficient. There were three different, well-coordinated teams, each consisting of two men, that worked on each stage. Each man was very professional and dedicated to his work (no phone conversations, talking, wasting time, only work-work-work). They worked as long as necessary, even if it was overtime. They kept the site clean while working and always left it clean before leaving. We are very pleased and happy with the result. Because they are so highly regarded RFS is quite busy, so you should reserve your time as early as possible. If your general contractor will allow you to choose your own flooring sub, I strongly recommend RFS. RFS does not do demolition. The demolition of our kitchen tile floor and entryway was done by Chris Wojtazsek of Synergy Remodeling. No one can be better than Chris. When you discuss colors with Robert remember to choose the right sheen. Think ahead of time about plinths, baseboards, trims and thresholds. Show Robert samples of these materials that you have chosen. Robert is very accommodating and will find the right solution to fulfill your dreams. Be prepared to leave your house for a few days as you may not like the smells. Find the best way to protect your new floor during the next steps of your remodeling project and for everyday life when it is all done (for example, a pad or soft casters under a rolling desk chair). I scheduled with him. The crew he sent worked really hard and stayed all day till the job was completed. Came the next day for another coat. We had them install some hardwood floors in our upstairs bedrooms. 3 guys did the job in about 11 hours! They barely took breaks and worked consistently the whole time. The floors looked fantastic and their price way less than any other company we got quotes from.
