We came here on Saturday for brunch. The restaurant was located in a little hotel by the pool. It was a cute little spot. SERVICE - The waitstaff was nice. They were just very formal so they did not have that warm and fuzzy interaction with you. Basically offered you drinks and took your order. FOOD Breakfast Burrito - 3/4 adults in our group got the breakfast burrito. I love breakfast burritos and get them everywhere. These were standard. Overall a solid burrito with your normal eggs, tater tots, avo, etc. The only thing about this burrito was that I could not justify that $18 tag on it. You could get this quality of a burrito (and bigger) at other restaurants for much lower. So price of the burrito did not make sense. Avalon Breakfast - Our friend got this dish and she requested poached eggs. She said they were some of the best poached eggs she has had. Seated immediately with a reservation. Waiter was prompt and attentive. Apollo and the desert jewel drinks were really good. We ordered the mezze platter, sweet potato, and bread and butter. It was a lot of food for two people. The tzatizki in the mezze platter was a little clumpy for my tastes, the guacamole was just ok (lacked flavor), presentation was outstanding. The bread and butter was nice - might have enjoyed it more if I had it as an appetizer instead of with the meal. If you are happy to overpay for food in order to hang out at a restaurant that has a cool vibe - this place is for you!!! The ambiance is great. Service is awesome. Just absolutely staggering how much the food costs. They have a dish that is literally just a piece of cauliflower with some sauce and stuff, and it costs $25. We enjoyed our meal, and the ice cream cookie sandwich is incredible. Just iffy on whether I'd go back. Oh - and they did that thing where they charge you 20% gratuity for a party of 6+ and then ask you for tip, almost like they're trying to trick you into tipping 38%. This is a cute little place tucked away in the Avalon. We ate near the pool on very non impressive chairs and table. The tables and chairs under the cabana area looked much nicer and more comfortable. The bar was area was very cute. The menu was small with not much to choose from. Prices were medium. We had the appetizer which was like a mezze plate with 3 dips. It was very hardy but the pita bread was less than impressive (definitely not homemade and not from a specialty shop) They did however supply a lot of fresh veggies with the dips. The dips were fine but not amazing. The hummus was interesting. It had a different flavor that I couldn't place. We then split the Lamb lollipops and a side of sauteed veggies. The lamb was delectable - A+ but it was served with more mediocre pita bread ( a lot) and mediocre tzakiki. The sauteed veggies were also amazing. I am giving this 3 stars because only the lamb and sauteed veggies were amazing and everything else was very mediocre including the table and chairs. We also had a very inconsistent wait staff and when we were ready to leave we could not find anyone to get our check for us. read more

Was really looking forward to dining here but everything just didn't work. Nice setting, typical Palm Springs but lacks a bit of charm. Service was not bad but the kitchen was very slow considering there were only 2 other tables seated. The double breaded pork chop was very dry (server mentioned the kitchen likes to make sure the pork is well cooked) the turnips were good and so was the corn bread but broken into tiny crumbs and not enough for flavor or texture. A nice small portion of it would be much nicer or at least broken into bigger crumbs, or like croutons. My husband had the salmon which was good but again the composition of the dish needs a lot more attention at the proportions and what's on the plate. The salmon was topped with the gremolata and underneath was about a teaspoon of the poblano crema and that's it. Nice asparagus, potatoes or any other vegetable needs to be there especially for how much it is. read more

If you don't read anything else, read this -- GET THE PALOMA. While I'm generally more into margaritas, and don't love how bitter Paloma's can be, theirs is anything but bitter. It is literally what dreams are made of, and I'll be honest, I'm probably only gonna talk about the Paloma in this review. A huge fan of Palm Springs, as I visit at least twice a year coming in from LA... Also a huge fan of The Avalon because the vibes, service, and character of the hotel/grounds are unmatched. I've had the pleasure of John (who I believe is the manager?) making drinks for myself and anyone I'm with more than a couple of times, but have never had a Paloma that was less than stellar coming from behind the bar at Chi Chi. The rest of the food is also awesome. The outdoor area surrounding the pool is gorgeous. Also, the pool that the restaurant surrounds (because the Avalon has 3) is kid-free, making it a quiet, adult oasis for sun bathers and warm-weather brunchers alike. Getting there: Located inside the Avalon Hotel, there is street parking and valet during the day. If you walk to the back you will get to the restaurant. Experience: Came here with a friend as his suggestion. We got there closer to closing time so we were able to sit wherever. This place is such a vibe. Tables all surrounding the pool in the courtyard of the hotel. The food was surprisingly amazing as well. I ordered the hangar steak and my friend ordered the summer salad. I've never had a bad meal at Chi Chi's! I look forward to dining here everytime I stay at the Avalon. I've had everything from their breakfast burrito to lox and toast to their breakfast sandwich with tots....and it's always so delicious, flavorful and well prepared. The portion sizes are also filling. This last visit, while at the pool, I tried the halibut fish sandwich for the first time and it was so flavorful and moist and high quality. The gentleman sitting nearby must've heard me gushing over my fish sandwich because he confirmed with me which item it was that I had ordered and proceeded to order the same one. :) Love you Chi Chi's. we were there for our anniversary, looking for a wonderful experience...IT WAS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. We ordered 2 different salads, the chop salad with steak and the caesar salad with salmon. Both were awful, the chop salad was just thrown on a plate with a steak on the side, not much taste in either, the presentation looked like something you would buy in a grocery store, the Caesar salad dressing was flavorless and looked like a watered down store bought dressing where they added too much mayo, it was inedible , the presentation also looked like it was thrown on a plate with absolutely no thought or design. Decided to have lunch here even though we weren't staying at the hotel. We love Norma's at the Parker PS, and since this hotel claims to have a similar mid-century vibe, we thought we'd check it out. We should've just gone to Norma's. The host was not the friendliest, to start with. We asked for a mask because my spouse had forgotten his, and it's always nice to have one just in case. The host said she didn't have one and didn't even bother to check with the bar or the front desk (where we eventually were able to get one). The food was good, but definitely priced on the high side. Again, we could've gotten better quality food for pretty much the same prices and a better experience at Norma's or elsewhere. Our server was the best part of the lunch: she was friendly and made us feel welcome. Unless you're at this hotel and don't want to leave because you're poolside, I'd skip Chi Chi. read more

We arrived for brunch on Sunday at a half-empty restaurant and pool area. We were told there was no space available at the tables by Michelle ("the manager"). She said they were all reserved and flippantly sat us at the bar (a group of 5). After about 15 minutes, the bartender asked if we'd like a beverage and something to eat. As we were talking to ourselves and losing track of time, I heard a commotion in the kitchen, about 10 feet from my seat. As I hear yelling and screaming, I see the chef walk out of the kitchen and the restaurant. The woman screaming was the manager, Michelle, who seated us. Keeping to our conversation, we wondered where the food was. It was about an hour at this point. The bartender comes over and tells us that the chef just quit on the spot and that the food order will take longer than expected. Soon after, the front desk manager came to apologize, tried to explain the situation, and offered us two complimentary cocktails for a group of 5. We were told our food would be up shortly. It wasn't. We were approaching an hour and forty-five minutes of waiting for our food. Michelle never came out of the kitchen as voices grew louder, with the staff's demeanor changed. By this time, the restaurant was almost empty. We picked up our things and walked out on the verge of losing our wits.  No one tried to appease the situation or take ownership of their mismanagement. The horrible treatment of staff in front of customers is unacceptable in any condition, especially here. Moral of the story: treat your staff and customers with the respect they deserve. I had checked this place out before I came here because I was taking a little vacation. I knew I wanted to be in PS early and I wanted a delicious breakfast and possibly get a drink. I got here very early for a good Greek yogurt with fruit. The restaurant is right off the pool area and so is the bar. I got the garden drink which was very refreshing which is what I needed! I'll add that a 20% gratuity was added to bill when we got it and called a 20% service charge, then tax, then $10 wellness fee plus $95 x2 + 3 drinks cost. Total came to over $400. Didn't feel like a $400 dinner experience, so we checked the bill more closely and noticed a place to check off the tip, in addition to the service charge. We stayed at the Avalon for four days. The restaurant, like the hotel, is a little inconsistent on price translating to service/quality experience. Service is great on one day, MIA the next. Coffee was terrible--both the morning brewed coffee as well as the espresso drinks. Super milky latte tasted like it was made for a child or something, weird--almost no flavor whatsoever. Cocktails were hit or miss and for 15-16 bucks I want all hit no miss. The Paloma was delicious, Spicy Cactus spicy as hell in a good way, but the margarita tasted like it was the super acidic cheap sweet and sour mix, not fresh. I definitely enjoyed the Poké bowl while sitting beside the pool but felt like either they forgot some sort of sauce or dressing or maybe it was just designed to be plain, not sure. Breakfast sandwich and tots were really good, hot, well proportioned not too huge. Avocado toast delivered to the room was soggy by the time I got it (too much tomato/sprouts drowning and soaking the avocado and bread) and the egg ice cold, it was a bummer. Karage fried chicken app was tasty until I bit into a piece that was undercooked. Yikes. Husband got down with the fried chicken sandwich and said it was amazing. I don't think they were running a full menu or a full staff which with Covid is totally understandable, and I get that hotel prices are inflated, I was just hoping for something a little more consistent for the money. Chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich was totally delicious but that may have been more to do with the weed candy obtained from the 420 Bank and Lounge on Palm Canyon drive (5 Stars!) we'll never really know. Don't tell my mom, ok? **To be fair/clear--we only ate room service or pool service, sat at the bar one time but didn't dine in for table service so take my review with that grain of salt. Great atmosphere and attentive staff! There is plenty of street parking, and they accept brunch reservations for a large group. Chi Chi has a great mix of brunch foods and breakfast cocktails. I personally recommend the avocado toast and aperol spritz! Our server was attentive and and provided great recommendations, and the bus boy was literally jogging back to the kitchen whenever we needed anything else! We sat with a large group at a beautiful marble table by the pool, which was nice with the pool being empty. The only odd thing about their outdoor seating would be that hotel guests could potentially be swimming or sun bathing right next to you. read more
