    ITALIAN GREYHOUND
    Debra R.

My husband and I had heard Birba has great cocktails, so we gave it a try. I loved my Italian greyhound, a delicious marriage of vodka, aperol, and grapefruit juice, all favorites. Do not miss the garlic knot, filled with garlic and tasty fresh bread. As the place filled, so did the noise level at this patio restaurant. Service was pleasant, my salad fresh, the pizza large, but just okay. Lots of trendy ingredients and vegetarian choices on the menu.

We were so hungry we did not even have time to wait for a table... it was cold. It was windy outside, so we sat at the bar. I ordered the meatballs with polenta and ricotta. It was so good. I gobbled it up without even thinking about it. The service was very good. The food was nice . In this particular mall, there's really not a lot of restaurants with this quality of food so we were happy to find this place as we were walking and shopping. We were definitely not in the mood for a food court, so this was a nice option.

Fun outdoor space, full on a Sunday night. We tried the radicchio and endive salad, cacio e Pepe Brussel sprouts and the special pizza, all tasty and good portions. Service was friendly and attentive they let us sample the wine to help us make a decision.

Did a walk in with my husband and baby, they got a nice table convenient with the stroller. Drinks were delicious and we shared a pizza which was soooo tasty. The dough was fantastic. Very cute romantic restaurant great for groups and date night

Birba - Disappointing Experience Despite Good Food My husband, Mark S., made a reservation earlier this evening for 7:00 PM. We arrived early at 6:45 PM, checked in with the hostess, and she barely acknowledged us. The Latina hostess was too busy chatting and joking with her coworkers to pay attention when I told her we had a reservation. Despite that, she still made us wait about 15 minutes -- even though the table they eventually sat us at was already vacant and clearly ready. Once seated, we waited again for our server. To his credit, he was attentive once he arrived and apologized for the delay -- he was the one redeeming part of the night. What really surprised me was being served food with no napkins or utensils. We had to ask for them, which is unacceptable at this level. And when the pasta pomodoro came out, no one offered extra cheese or pepper -- something that should be standard for a pasta dish. The dining setup itself is uncomfortable. Tables are far too close, and guests and servers kept bumping into each other or having to apologize just to get by. It didn't feel organized or relaxing. The food was great, but everything around it made the experience not worth it. Palm Springs has plenty of restaurants with better hospitality and better respect for reservations. I only tried Birba because The Eater recommended it, but I wouldn't return. If you plan on visiting, make a reservation and still expect to wait. Honestly, takeout might be the more pleasant option.

We were excited to go here, as we love good pizza. The setting is lovely, outside under the trees. Very romantic. Unfortunately, even though our server was very nice, everything took a really long time. We ordered drinks, my dirty martini was OK, but not great, probably the olive juice. My husband's beer (Abita brown lager) didn't come til after the salad was served. Beet salad was very good! Then we waited and waited for our pizza. We got the Piece of the Pie pizza, toppings were good but the crust was awful. Thin but soggy. I only ate 1 piece, and a few of the toppings from the rest. I guess because of our wait our server comped us dessert - butterscotch pudding that was excellent! We might try again and have pasta, and hope service is better.

Surprisingly good food. We liked the black pepper tagliatelle the most with the birba pizza second. The tagliatelle had a really nice flavor and wasn't too heavy. The pizza was sweet with a little bit of kick and deliciously meaty. We also ordered the Tutto carne pizza which was like a yummy meat lovers pizza. We had a lemon olive oil cake and tiramisu for dessert. The tiramisu was a little too mushy and not enough mascarpone but the lemon olive oil cake was nicely balanced, and tasty.

Contrary to some of the recent reviews that the pizza was soggy and food was bland, we liked it! It was home style and focused on delicious ingredients like homemade sausage, dates and olives to season the dishes. We got the sausage pizza (good crust), beet salad (huge and fresh, though I thought the dollop of cheese on top was bland), chicken with dates and olives (amazing balance of flavors) and roasted cauliflower (tasty and not too oily). $25 corkage and a great playlist made it a wonderful evening. All in all a good experience!

This place has excellent food! We found ourselves wandering on a chilly Palm Springs winter evening. We almost went to about 3 different places but landed here. The pizza, pasta, and salads were simply excellent. I have definitely walked by before but never entered. Moving forward, I will be visiting as often as I can! From what I recall, we had a hot honey pizza, a ricotta ravioli, and a walnut salad. The cocktails were so yummy too. My mom ordered her first Vesper and loved it. Our server was kind and quick, paying attention to the our needs. The outdoor, garden-like setting with fire pits and trees was dreamy, although we could have used a little more light. It was tough to read the menus. Maybe table lights? Heaters worked well also. I'm so pleased we had a delicious meal at Birba and I can't wait to return.

I came here on a Friday evening with a bachelorette party and it was great! Every single pizza was flavorful and an absolute hit. Don't be shy to try the lemon pizza, it was phenomenal! They also served me a Lambrusco with a heavy pour. Always love a generous bar! Service was great and parking was on the street. It is completely outdoors so keep that in mind if you want to escape the heat but I totally recommend for yummy dinner!

The drinks were strong and well-made, and even though the place was packed, our waitress stayed attentive and checked in with us consistently. It's clear they specialize in more elaborate cocktails, so a bit of a wait is understandable. The ambiance is also a highlight--dark, intimate, and really leans into the tiki vibe. **Night two** was the complete opposite. We accidentally mixed up our reservation time, but since the place was nearly empty, we were seated right away, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. We had a different waitress, and despite being one of only a few parties there when we arrived, we waited **45 minutes** without seeing our drinks--while other groups seated after us were already being served (and even getting second rounds). We eventually had to flag down our waitress, who had hardly checked on us at all. When we asked about the delay, she said they were "very busy,". After mentioning how long we'd been waiting, there wasn't any real apology--just visible annoyance. She told us our drinks were "up next," but after another 20 minutes passed with nothing, we decided to leave after over an hour of waiting. It was disappointing, especially after such a positive first experience. A simple apology or some communication would have gone a long way. Sadly, the inconsistency makes it hard to know which version of this place you're going to get.

Neil was welcoming, accommodating, and personally secured a table for our party of six when we returned after 9pm. His hospitality and the venue concept itself are excellent. Unfortunately, the service we received afterward from another staff member, Billy, did not match that standard. The venue is extremely dark, so we used the small table lamp to read the menu. Billy instructed us not to use it because it "wasn't the vibe of the establishment," and told us to use our phone lights instead. The tone was abrupt and dismissive. Around 9:50pm he announced last call. When one guest ordered, his response was, "I guess if you must." Others asked for a moment to decide and were repeatedly rushed. We explained we weren't aware they closed as 10, as Neil had told us it would be open seating after 10. He replied, "Yeah, well I'm closing tonight and I'm closing at 10." When drinks were delivered, they were set down forcefully. As we were leaving, a member of our group overheard Billy speaking negatively about us to another employee, including mocking someone in our group for needing glasses to read the menu and implying she was intoxicated (she wasn't). When this was addressed directly, he did not apologize and instead insisted we had overstayed, which is inaccurate. We ordered promptly after being told last call and left after finishing our drinks. We are locals who intentionally brought out-of-town guests here because we wanted them to have a great experience. It's disappointing that one staff member's conduct overshadowed what should have been a highlight of their visit. I won't assign motives, but I will note that Billy's demeanor noticeably shifted after the final member of our group, who happens to be Black, arrived. I cannot determine why, only that the change in tone was clear. Neil has created something special here. However, a venue's reputation ultimately depends on how guests are treated when ownership is not present. Based on this visit, there is a significant gap between the hospitality the owner provides and the service delivered in his absence. I hope Neil takes a close look at what happens when he's not present, because with the right staff, this could easily be a place we'd want to return to.

We wanted to grab a drink at the Window Bar (not knowing that was its actual name, but the conversation we had with the bartender about that window shining too much light at certain parts of the morning definitely gave me a chuckle in hindsight). We happened to be a bit early since he had not been able to finish setting up shop yet. We went ahead and waited until he was ready without rushing him because we ourselves weren't in any rush at all. Surrounded by a ton of nice interesting artwork, it was a pure joy to enjoy a drink or two in this environment. The bar can be found at the corner on the other side of the hotel concierge in plain sight from such a big space for a lobby, directly left upon entrance through the front.
