The food was incredible, 11/10. We loved sharing the mole chicken with fresh tortillas, the carrots dusted with pistachio, and the chocolate chip cookie for dessert, which was fresh out of the oven. As others have mentioned, service was slow, but we enjoyed the ambience, the conversation, and each other's company, so it didn't bother us. Ambience is romantic, think dim lighting and shabby chic decor. Seating is almost entirely outdoors, bring layers. If you are under heat lamp you will be hot, if you are not, you will be cold. Fancier than you'd expect given the low-key location and surroundings. Prepare to spend at least $100-150 per person, more if you have more than one drink. Came here for our one year anniversary, they unfortunately do not do anything to make your experience special This place is very homey and comfortable. Parking is pretty unavailable so make sure to park on the residential street behind and enter what looks through someone's garage but actually isn't. We got the smashed cucumbers and salad and mole chicken. The chicken was absolutely massive but still very good. A little hard to cut up yourself as there are so many bones attached but once you get it off and make a taco with the guac and pickled onions it is so so good! read more

This would probably be a 3 star review had the first remarks from the server not been 'we are Michelin rated." well neither the food, the service nor ambience would support that claim. The table we were initially sat at was not large enough for the two chairs we occupied and it had a terrible wobble that would certainly have toppled a glass or two had we stayed there. my shrimp device which was recommended turned out rather boring and of course tiny. Had to ask three times to get an Ice Tea refilled. topped it off with burnt cookies for dessert. there are way too many worthy places to eat in PS than this over priced, pretentious locale. read more

The Barn Kitchen has been on our list of places to try in Palm Springs. What a disappointment!! The roasted carrots with pistachio dust (horrible), butter lettuce salad (underwhelming), and the John Dory fish (overcooked and dry). At least 50-60% of the food was left uneaten and we had no interest in taking any of it home. These days with all that's going on in the world and economy, the summer heat and lack of tourists, eating out is more of a treat. We tried this out for our anniversary which was noted in the Open Table notes. Of course no mention or acknowledgment. This restaurant can now be crossed of our places to try list and moved to never need to try again. read more

Reminder- a good vibe only takes you so far. You can't eat a good vibe. This place has so much potential. It's located in the barn/courtyard of the Sparrows Lodge. When you first walk in, it feels a bit disorienting. Walk past the pool and to the barn. The food and inconsistent service made this place a bit of a miss. To start we had an Old Fashioned and a Paper Plane, the cocktails were nice. At first the service seemed attentive. On the recommendation of our server we ordered the Guac & Chips to start and the Honeynut Squash and John Dory as mains. The Guac & Chips were okay, didn't live up tp the hype. My friend enjoyed her John Dory. Sadly, my Squash was flavorless, bland, and wilted. The description oversold me. The only good part of the dish were the see canyon apple chunks. We were seated in the picturesque patio. The night was chilly and the heat lamp was on high. After roasting, I asked the staff to turn it down but they never did. I finally had to switch seats. After our main dishes came it was hard to get anyone's attention to order dessert or get the check (Pro Tip- they don't take cash). Sidebar- the Warm Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dessert was nice but took a very long time. Baked to order felt more like, made from scratch to order. So if you plan on ordering it, do so early or prepare to wait. read more

Came here with a group of coworkers and the place was just absolutely beautifully decorated! Warm lights, cozy tables and heat lamps for the outside seating was just amazing. We tried the burrata and the smashed cucumbers, then I had the mole chicken and tried the burger. Everything I had was very well cooked and well seasoned. Tried the pork rack and it was moist and tender! I did hear that the dory was not as well cooked (overdone a bit) and the beans on the pork dish a bit salty which was disappointing to hear. But the best part - warm cookies to end the night! It's a very small restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere and thank you to the single waitress who served and helped. read more

The server was initially attentive and the ambiance was beautiful, which set high expectations. Unfortunately, that was the high point of the evening. While the appetizers were very good, it took nearly an hour before our dinner order was taken, followed by another 45 minutes before the food arrived. So I have been focusing Michelin recommended restaurants for better value and taste now because of the rising prices of eating out. They require a credit card to make reservations to a half empty restaurant. This place is not Michelin level. Maybe it was but it is not now. The people are friendly the drinks and the food were just ok. Not what is expected with any reference to Michelin. We had a wonderful stay at the Sparrow's Lodge. We had dinner there on 2 of our nights there. The 2nd night I had an issue with one of the dishes. If you have an heirloom tomato dish on your menu - please have ripe tomatoes that can be used in the salad. Most of the tomatoes were not even edible as they were so unripe. Maybe it's time to change out the menu since summer is over and tomato season is on it's way out - but maybe it's my bad for ordering it? But I feel the restaurant could do better just the same. Otherwise the meal was great. We had the John Dory and it was delicious, made better by a suggestion of the waiter to add a side of rice. The service was wonderful and we will definitely be back. We got the pork chop which was so so good with braised veggies, chicken mole (with tortillas) and a chilled Sangiovese. All were excellent. We loved that they seated my husband and I on the same side of the table! Value: 5/5- our two entrees and wine were about $100 which is what we would typically spend on a date night. For the quality of food and experience this is definitely worth it. Kids are NOT allowed, so definitely more of a date spot. We visited over the holidays after reading that the restaurant was recognized by the Michelin Guide. For appetizers, we had roasted heirloom carrots and butternut squash soup. For our main courses, we tried the honeynut squash and John Dory. Unfortunately, the only dish we truly enjoyed was the butternut squash soup. The honeynut squash was bland, and the John Dory was dry. I don't remember much about the roasted heirloom carrots, other than there were a lot of root vegetables. After such a disappointing meal, we didn't bother ordering dessert, despite the tempting option of chocolate chunk cookies. We figured we could get better cookies back home. The courtyard setting was lovely, but it was a bit chilly in December, even with a heat lamp. The service was slow, and we had trouble finding the restaurant. It's located inside the Sparrows Lodge, and the parking lot was small. read more

Review based on how to make a reservation. As of November 2024, if you're not a hotel guest you must make a reservation via OpenTable. No one under 21 allowed (no infants, toddlers, teens etc.). There is no access to the restaurant without a reservation or without being a hotel guest. Same day reservations may be available. I was in town and called to inquire about coming in, the staff wasn't the friendliest, they were bothered that I called to ask. I'm sure they get calls like that often, but it's not the publics fault that there is no information available on the protocol to of how to access the restaurant. When I called they told me to make a reservation via OpenTable, I had to call a second time to ask if people under 21 were allowed and they said was "no". Perhaps, providing information on how to make a reservation and what is and not allowed on their website would be helpful. read more

We came to Palm springs for Mother's Day weekend and booked a reservation for dinner on Mother's Day after looking into this place. My mom and grandma were both super excited! They then called us and told us that they couldn't accommodate our reservation because they overbooked. There was no offer to accommodate us another day, just sorry we can't serve you... how do you not figure out your system before Mother's Day... so disappointing Anyways didn't get to eat there but this initial experience will not have us ever coming back. Talk about vibe! If you're looking for a laid back, relaxing atmosphere this is the place. So charming, and definitely a place to recharge or have a romantic dinner. The food was great. I had the pork chop and can't say enough good things, the collard greens particularly blew me away but the chop was cooked to perfection and had great flavor. My only place for improvement was the margarita. Definitely tasted like premade Marg mix. For $15 I expect a handcrafted cocktail. But I'm sure if you order beer/wine you won't be disappointed. I spent the most wonderful morning hanging out here! It was my last day in Palm Springs and I came for brunch. I ended up sitting a long time in the open-air space, reading the myriad of gorgeous books they have and enjoying the trees and sky.
