Food: - Avalon Breakfast ($25): Two Eggs, Crispy Fingerling Potatoes (delicious and small), Sautéed Kale, Avocado, Toast (not sure why but the toast was quite craveable!) And your choice of Bacon or Chicken Sausage. Bacon was decent! Overall the breakfast was balanced, hearty, and filling! Overall a balanced and delicious plate! - CHILAQUILES ($21) Two Eggs, Roasted Salsa Roja, Red Onion, Cotija, Avocado Créma, Cilantro, Corn Tortilla Chips - for those who haven't had this combo before it tastes like Doritos. Decent size and hearty and complete. The flavors were well paired. Not a bad option but id also try some other options possibly. Pros: - choice of inside or outside. If it's not too hot, outside has a nice view of the pool and hotel scenery. - solid choice for breakfast. Cons: - not a cheap option at all! - not a fan of all the surcharges but it is what it is. Our table ordered martinis, Aperol Spritzes, Chardonnay, the house Desert Jewel cocktail, gnocchi, steak frittes, the cheeseburger and roasted cauliflower. We've been many times over many years (back to the Viceroy days), and keep coming back for the ambiance, laid back vibe, service, cocktails and food. Breakfast, lunch, Happy Hour, dinner, inside, poolside, covered outside, year round it's a consistently nice experience when we visit friends in Palm Springs. We have always found street parking, but have seen valet service available many times if preferred. (Note: The Avalon is a classic PS hotel, and the Estrella Spa is a nice option.) The food was OK but our server, while friendly, got almost everything wrong at our table. Three people at our table of eight had the smash burgers all said they were nothing to write home about. They got two of the three burger special requests (I.e. no onions) wrong. One of them asked for his fries well done, but they ended up on a plate with another burger at our table. That same person in my party ordered a margarita and was served a different cocktail. Of course they exchanged it without question, but that's a lot of mistakes. They also ran out of a key topping on one of the pizzas, artichokes. I ordered the shrimp & crab linguini in uni butter, which sounded nice & fancy. It was not very good. Under-seasoned, and needed to be a little saucey or looser. It was like carbonara but without the gloss & too "tight." A starchy glob of pasta. Shrimp was fine. Crab didn't add anything to the dish. Also ordered the burrata toast it's the same bread as bread and butter so didn't need both but it was also very yummy had a unique yummy flavor. Also ordered the steak frites honestly not what you usually expect for steak frites it was very thick cuts of meat and pretty well done even though I wanted medium and it came cold it didn't seem like a skirt steak. Our bartender, John was the best, and struck up a wonderful conversation with an interesting couple from the UK who have lived here 40 yrs and been married 56 years! I had a Summer Sol cocktail w/ rose vodka, rose wine, mango boba (delightful), and a splash of soda - light and refreshing ($10) and a really tasty white sangria, not too sweet, w/ white wine, peach schnapps, rosemary simple syrup and lemon (just $8). My husband had the Garden Cooler cocktail w: gin, cucumber, basil and lime (very tasty, $10) and nice glass of Sonoma rose ($11). Was in Palm Springs for my bachelorette party and stopped here for some tapas before going out. Definitely recommend ordering all the apps and sharing! A rare find for a sandwich. Pack a ton of flavor and served with two hash browns. Recommend mixing your hot sauce with ketchup for the perfect dip. Had the chilaquiles on day two of my visit. My fiancée and I dined at CHi CHi while staying in Palm Springs from LA. It's nice that it's in the Avalon, and tucked back from the main boulevard. Overall a little more quiet and intimate whether dining inside or outside (always nice to be by a pool). We had the chilaquiles, which were great by any standards. A nice spice level, tasty crema and loved the texture of the chips (not hard, not soggy, just right). I recommend getting the egg over easy so it binds everything together. Service was great, very laid back, attentive and friendly. Always love asking for their favorites. Extra points for having an espresso machine and fresh juices. The only reason I gave 2 instead of 1 star was the service. This restaurant is in the hotel where we are staying, which we love! (The Avalon) The 4-star reviews and the fact that we're laying by the pool today made this a no-brainer for lunch. The outdoor patio is interesting. It's just across the very small pool from the pool chairs, which makes one feel a bit self-conscious about laying out in front of business people and ladies who lunch. The drinks are good--I had the watermelon splash. The food was disappointing and overpriced. We shared the garlic fries and the spicy caesar with chicken ($24). The fries, in my opinion, were a bit undercooked. They were pale and floppy. The caesar was the biggest disappointment. First, we didn't get our chicken so they brought it later--4 strips of bland, flavorless chicken. The dressing was flavorless. There were grocery store croutons. Even I make my own croutons! The cherry tomatoes didn't fit the salad. It was awful! Here's the worst part--they also failed to put the chicken on the salad of the table next to us and comped her chicken. Our chicken was on our bill. I will not eat here again. (If you still want to try it, the salmon lox looked edible.) read more

This is my second visit to Chi Chi at the Avalon. My first visit was to die for, this one wasn't so great. The fruit salad was dramatically different. I expected a huge fruit salad and it was a fraction of the size for the same price! There were no cucumbers, no jicama, etc...no wow factor. All the server told me was that the menu changed. Trust me, change it back to what it was please or I'll never return or tell anyone about this place. The ladies I dined with enjoyed their French toast and my Avalon breakfast was good. The drinks were good. We are no strangers to paying a hefty price for a fine meal, but this was not one of those times. This was just legal theft. We thought a Valentine's Day dinner, poolside at a charming boutique hotel, sounded like a wonderful idea. No. Just no. Chi Chi was not easy to find. It's hidden on a dark street, with almost no lighting or signage, no "open curb" in front and no valet parking. Once inside the tiny indoor bar/dining area, the noise level was through the roof. There was absolutely nothing charming about the room. Outdoors, where we were seated, was equally unappealing. Poor lighting. Stone tables and benches. No place mats or tablecloths. No flickering little candles or tiny vases of cut flowers. No place settings or even salt and pepper shakers . . . . Just a cold, plain stone table and a bench. The area had not even been swept, so there were leaves and branches everywhere and the staff had to haul over huge heating lamps once we were seated. We felt like we were dining in a utility shed. The food? A Prix Fixe menu that looked reasonable but was not. We started with a half dome of solid iceburg lettuce, smothered in blue cheese, with a couple of cherry tomatoes on the side, which they called a "Baby Wedge Salad." OK. Nothing special but not much there to screw up either. The mains were a disaster and I think chef was trying to hide them. The mediocre steak was hidden under a pile of arugula and had no flavor. My soggy, limp whole Branzino, not even deboned, was also completely hidden under . . . something. Flavorless mush. Both dishes included a "fingerling potato." Note my use of the singular, there. Desert was a ramakin of crème Brule, with a couple of berries and a squirt of Reddi Whip. Add 2 beverages, 2 coffees and a tip and the bill for all of this came to an astounding $378.00. We had to wait forever for the server to actually bring a bill, though I will say that everyone was very, very nice. I love it when they smile while picking your pocket. read more

First of all the atmosphere was average to ordinary, and the tables were right next to people slapping suntan lotion all over themselves and jumping in and out of the pool. Frankly I wasn't happy with that, especially when I was being charged over $100 for a very moderate breakfast for two in the morning apparently, this place is a tourist rip off and I was really resentful having to spend that kind of money for breakfast we only had two egg dishes with toast and potatoes (albeit very large portions) and two juices...that's it!! $110 including a 20% tip come on! To be fair, the food was good but getting ripped off negates that entirely. read more
