Came here with a group of twelve friends for a nice dinner, Chez Trassoudaine did nothing but impress. The inside décor is very well done. The ceiling is high and floor to ceiling windows surround the main room making the space feel nice and open. The simple chairs and tables bring to mind a classy garden party rather than a stuffy upscale establishment. Right next to our table was a tall bird cage with two birds roaming around inside. Fake Ivy climbed up parts of the wall and the space that wasn't occupied by windows was covered with posters.
The restaurant is a family place, we were greeted and had our orders taken by the owner, who stopped by several times throughout the night. His son bussed the tables and his wife did all or most of the cooking. We were greeted with two delicious bottles of rum punch on the house while the owner chatted with us in French, English and Spanish.
For entrees we had a plate full of dips and spreads with sausage and bread to go along with. For main course our group mostly chose the duck and several types of the Chateaubriand (beef filet). The owner explained to us everything from what the French names meant to how the duck would taste depending on how it was cooked. The dishes came with side of potatoes and green beans, and for good measure they brought more bowls of potatoes and greens along with bread to the table. The duck and beef were both delicious and my dish, the Chateaubriand à l'Alsacienne came with a delicious Dijon, cream and tarragon sauce.
For dinner we had among our group the three layer chocolate cake, mixed fruit cake and chocolate mousse. The mousse was incredibly fluffy and rich, no sugar, just eggs and chocolate he explained. After we finished dessert, the owner brought around a bottle of rum for each table, again on the house.
The best part about the restaurant was the atmosphere, incredibly warm and inviting, the owner was laughing and making jokes all evening long. We felt perfectly at home in the restaurant, not strangers in a stuffy and classy restaurant. We would definitely come here again, everyone had a great time. read more
